“More than you know,” I answered him, and he ordered strawberries, chocolate, and champagne.

“Twenty minutes,” he said, hanging up the phone. “Is there a robe in there?”

I grabbed the two hanging in the bathroom and walked to him. “It’s a shame to cover up,” I told him, and he bent his head down to take my lips again. His kisses woke my body up, and I got on my tippy toes.

He grabbed a robe from me. “If we keep this up, I’ll be balls deep in you when they get here.” His arms slipped into the robe.

“I see nothing wrong with that.” I winked at him as I slipped my arms into the robe. Going to the couch and sitting down, I said, “We have twenty minutes. Want to play a game?” He sat down next to me. “Would you rather stay in or go out?”

“I’m a homebody,” he said without thinking twice. “You?”

“Me, too. I mean, I like to go out, but to me, preparing dinner together is just as romantic as going out.” I leaned in. “Besides, you can always get naked in the middle of it.” I winked, and my brain called me a hussy. I leaned forward and waited for his kiss. His tongue slipped into my mouth, and I got lost again in him. I sat back down and waited for him to ask me a question.

“Would you rather get up early or stay up late?” He grabbed my legs and pulled them on his lap.

“I’m okay with either,” I answered, and my body shivered as he rubbed my legs. I couldn’t stand it, so I got up and straddled him, kissing him again.

“I usually have to unwind after work,” he said, “depending on what time I get in. Would you rather spend the day inside or outside?”

“That depends.” I leaned my head on my fist on the couch. “If I’m on a beach, I’d rather spend the whole day on the beach. If I’m up north and there is snow falling, definitely inside by a fire.”

He looked at me and smiled. “That is my exact answer.”

I just looked at him. Even knowing this was a one-night stand, I wanted to know so much about him, yet I knew I didn’t have a right to it. His mouth now found mine as we kissed. “What is your biggest fear?” I asked him with my own heart pounding in my chest.

“That one is easy,” he said, pushing my hair away from my face. “Ending up with someone who isn’t the one.” His voice trailed off, and I didn’t have time to answer him because the knock on the door interrupted us. I watched him walk over to the hallway, and I sat there in shock. This man who I just met had the exact same fear as me.

The phone buzzes in my hand, and the memory of last night is gone. I get up and look over at the dark room, seeing him in the middle of the bed in the same position. “Bye, Manning,” I whisper and walk to the door. Stopping before I walk out, I open my purse to take out an elastic and tie my hair in a high ponytail.

I mean, there is nothing I can do that doesn’t say this is my walk of shame and I spent the whole night with cock. I open the door, and my heart sinks for leaving, but it’s a lot better than the awkwardness of the morning after. I mean, I’m assuming—I’ve never done this before, so I don’t know what the rules are. I walk down the hallway and press the down arrow button when my phone beeps that my Uber is there.

The elevator door pings, and I get in, pressing the L button. The whole time, I feel a sense of dread, but I try not to think about it as I walk with my head down. The doorman opens the door for me. “Have a great day,” he says, and I smile at him, looking for the Honda that is supposed to be waiting for me. I spot him and raise my hand, and he drives over so I don’t walk too far. I get in and slam the door behind me.

“Good morning,” I say and put my head back on the seat. He mumbles good morning and then makes his way to my house.

I close my eyes, and all of a sudden, I’m back in the hotel room as memories of last night come crashing to me.

The minute I pushed his jacket from his shoulders, I couldn’t wait to get his shirt off him. But he had other plans. “All night, I’ve thought about these bow ties,” he said, taking the one around my waist and pulling it loose, opening the shirt down the middle.
