What’s that?
Some supplies for us to enjoy at the waterfall, Ardon answered.
Skye noticed when he turned his head toward the protective ring of flame, it went out. She breathed a sigh of relief that he wouldn’t carry her through that. She wasn’t quite over their scary arrival.
Chapter 11
An ear-piercing roar made Skye forget about the intruder inside her. When a large black shadow blocked a portion of the sun in front of them, Skye squinted from the glare as she tried to figure out what was in the sky above them.
Keres, Oldrik explained.
What’s he doing?
No one answered her immediately. Oldrik wheeled around in an aerial U-turn and headed back to his territory. Ardon assumed a defensive position, flying ahead to one side. She could feel their suspicion that something was wrong with the black dragon. What had he done before to cause them to be on guard?
What’s happening? Is Keres okay?
There is danger ahead. Keres has called for the other members of the horde and warned us off, Ardon reported. We can make it home without crossing the zone Keres is patrolling.
Both her mates scanned the area around them. They weren’t taking any chance that something perilous ranged further than Keres’s report. She shivered, instantly frightened. Sitting as quietly as possible, Skye tried not to distract them with a million questions, but she really wanted to know what was going on.
Oldrik landed and shifted rapidly. He wrapped an arm around Skye to whisk her into the mansion. When she couldn’t walk fast enough because of the plug filling her bottom, he scooped her up and carried her into the large gathering room inside. Ardon followed closely behind.
“You’re scaring me,” Skye confessed.
“I’m sorry, Blueberry. You are safe with us. I needed to get you inside,” Oldrik reassured her. “Someone is targeting dragons with a chemical smoke.”
“Keres spotted it from afar and trumpeted a call to everyone,” Ardon explained.
Do you need to go with the other dragons?
“No, Skye. Our mating bond is too new. We can’t leave you at home. Taking you with us to respond is reckless. We won’t risk you,” Oldrik told her.
Who would attack dragons? You’re keeping Wyvern safe.
“We don’t have all that information yet, Skye. There are always those who seek power for themselves. Even to the point of ambushing us,” Ardon said and shook his head. “We’ll stay inside until we hear the all-clear.”
“We’ll go on our trip to the waterfall on a different day,” Oldrik promised. “It’s not safe outside the confines of the mountains.”
He pulled Skye close to hug her, as if needing to feel her close. Ardon joined them. The triad huddled together for a few long minutes. Experiencing their concern for her was disconcerting. She knew they didn’t worry about themselves. Her mates focused on keeping her from harm—no matter what danger lurked. Their arrival at Oldrik’s mansion meant they could relax. Skye’s quickly beating heart slowed back to normal. Her mates would always protect her.
“I have an idea,” Ardon announced with a grin. “We could go swimming in Oldrik’s enormous bathtub. Pretend it’s a waterfall?”
That sounds fun! Skye was tickled to have a fun distraction.
“Let’s go!” Ardon tugged Skye from Oldrik. He lifted her and tossed her over his shoulder.
Jogging away, he challenged Oldrik, “Last one there has to sit by the faucet.”
Oldrik immediately chased them. Laughing, he pointed out, “It’s my tub. That gives me rights.”
“I already called it!” Ardon reminded him.
The two shifters pelted up the stairs, side by side. Ardon’s quick pace jostled Skye as she draped over his hard torso. She could feel the plug shifting inside her and hoped her eyes weren’t crossing as she joined their merriment.
The competition continued to the door. Ardon swerved to bump into Oldrik, pushing him to the side while holding her securely. “Oops! Looks like I get my choice!”
Just before he stepped into the bathroom, Skye lifted her legs up in front of him. Her toes entered the door first. “I win,” she crowed.
“Oh, you’re in so much trouble, My Treasure,” Ardon warned as he set her feet on the ground. He popped her on the bottom, making her eyes cross with the sensations from the plug in her bottom.
That swat pressed it deeper inside her, rubbing against sensitive nerve endings. She clenched her thighs together as the movement fueled the arousal building inside her. The invasion made her crave more.
“Perhaps it’s time our mate received her first spanking.”
“Daddy!” She ran to Oldrik for protection.
“Blueberry, did you do something naughty?” Oldrik asked, considering her seriously.
She shook her head frantically. I’ve been good!
“Then this spanking must be a good girl spanking,” Oldrik suggested.
That doesn’t exist!
“Of course it does. And you’re going to love it,” Ardon promised. “What do you think, Oldrik? Fifteen swats each?”
“That sounds right for her punishment.”
Skye covered her bottom and backed away from them. Oldrik still stood at the entrance to the large bathroom. She couldn’t get through there. He was as wide as the door. She looked at the only other door. It led into the closet.
