“I…I…” I tried clearing my throat. “I’m sorry…if that makes you uncomfortable, I mean.”

“Yeah, it makes me uncomfortable.” He glanced my way with that familiar smirk. “Because the attraction goes both ways.”

My mouth opened and closed like a fish begging for air. “What are you…?”

“Suppose I should thank you for making me realize I’m bi,” he said, and I breathed out, relief washing through me. But at the same time, the fireball in my stomach that always sparked around him intensified into an inferno.

I felt hot all over and sputtered, unable to get any words out. Any words appropriate for the situation, anyway. “I…um…you’re welcome?”

Remy laughed, and the sound buzzed through my limbs, making me feel like I was coming out of my skin.

I was too afraid to look at him for fear of giving away my whirlwind of emotions. So I stared straight ahead, trying to process his confession and wondering if I was dreaming or heard him wrong or any number of things to not make it true because my brain was about to explode.

After another minute had gone by and neither of us had moved the conversation forward, I finally got up the courage to ask, “Is that the reason you’re out here in the middle of the night?”

“It’s technically the morning, so…” His fingers did that thing along the grooves in the deck, as if he were tracing some picture in his head. He had notebooks full of drawings, his sketches were amazing, so I wasn’t surprised when I learned that would be his field of study. “Guess I’m just working out some stuff in my head.”

“The lake is the perfect setting for that,” I replied. “So then, why the confession?”

“Don’t really know.” When he turned his head, his gaze slid from my eyes to my mouth, and I dug my nails into my palm, trying to keep my reaction to him in check. “You’re my brother’s best friend, and I’ll be starting at Franklin U this fall, so everything’s about to change, and I…I just wanted you to know.”

My chest throbbed from wondering what might’ve happened if we’d had more time. But more time to what exactly? Bailey would likely freak out if he knew Remy and his best friend were even having this conversation. Especially since they’d butted heads a lot more lately, on practically everything, and Bailey had used me as his sounding board more than once.

“Well, damn, Remy, I don’t even know what to say.”

“Maybe there isn’t anything to say.” He shrugged. “Just what it is.”

When our eyes met, the butterflies kicked up in my stomach like they always did around him, but this time, there was a flurry of activity. It felt like a magnet was drawing us closer, our breaths wafting in the space between us. With shaky fingers, I was brave enough to reach out and push back a lock of his hair that had fallen against his cheek.

He shivered and angled closer, and my pulse blotted out all other sounds.

“Alex.” When Remy pressed his soft mouth to mine, he made a sound in the back of his throat, part groan, part sigh, as my heart galloped wildly. I was so afraid he’d change his mind and pull away that my hand reached out to tangle in his shirt, holding him steady. When his tongue flicked against mine, my entire body came alive, and now I understood what this kissing thing was all about. It was breathy and heart-stopping and amazing. At least with Remy Duval. I briefly wondered if I was doing it all wrong, if I was too slobbery or not following his lead well enough, but he certainly didn’t seem to be complaining.

We kissed for a long time, his warm fingers gripping my neck and mine twisted in his shirt, only breaking apart to catch our breath before going back for more. His lips were firm, his tongue was soft, and I wanted to live in this moment and never come up for air.

Feeling bolder, I shifted to lie down, dragging him with me.

“Fuck,” he swore under his breath as he kissed me more fervently, his elbows on either side of my head. I absently considered that anyone could see us through the window until I remembered that the bedrooms were on the other side of the cottage. I hoped no one had gotten up early. I just wanted this so badly.

I whimpered when his hard dick slotted against mine. I couldn’t even help myself because it felt so good. Like the perfect amount of pressure without sending me over the edge, but when we started rutting, the friction made my eyes roll to the back of my head. This experience with a guy—the guy of my dreams—was everything I thought it might be.

When I moaned a little too loudly, he placed his fingers over my mouth to shush me, his eyes alight with amusement, and pure lust, which, holy shit, was so hot and only turned me on more. I didn’t know how long we lay like that with him grinding against me and me squirming beneath him, but my mouth felt tender and my balls were about to burst.
