“We’ve been on more than two dates,” he says, his hands moving to my legs as he rubs them up and down. “It’s been over six years, surely it’s more than two.”

I roll my eyes. “Those didn’t count.”

“Okay, fine, so let’s go on dates,” he says without skipping a beat.

“Just like that?” I ask him and he smiles.

“Just like that,” he repeats like it’s not a big deal. He sits up a bit to kiss me. “It’s that easy.”

“It’s really not that easy,” I reply softly and he leans in and kisses my neck.

“Why can’t it be that easy?” he asks, right before he nips my neck and I move my neck to give him better access.

“Because it’s,” I start to say but he moves up to my ear, sucking in the lobe and my head falls forward.

“I like you,” he whispers in my ear, “a lot.” His hands move up my legs to my hips. “You make me laugh.” His nose lightly rubs my cheek right before he kisses me. “You make me crazy.” I laugh at that one. “We like the same things.” I don’t even know what to say to that. “I especially like having sex with you.”

I laugh at that one. “I like that also,” I agree as his hand goes under my shirt, where he finds me without a bra.

“Is that what you had to talk to me about?” he asks as his fingers roll my nipples at the same time. “Us dating?”

“Yes.” I arch my back and he bends to take my nipple into his mouth through the shirt. The wet cotton sticking to my nipple.

“I would like to also say,” he says, moving to my other nipple as he wets it also, “when I’m gone for more than a day, you wear a dress.” His hips thrust up. “So I can slide into you easily.”

I smirk at him. “Duly noted,” I say and here in the middle of my living room, we decide we are officially dating.

CHAPTER 30

Chase

I slam the door behind me when the phone rings in my hand. I look down and see it’s Julia. “Hey there, beautiful,” I answer and she laughs.

“Did you just send me flowers?” She laughs into the phone and just the sound of her laughing makes me smile.

“Who else would be sending you flowers?” I ask her and she laughs even harder.

“Sorry, scratch that, did you just send me the biggest flower arrangement I’ve ever had?” I can hear her sniffing. “I tried to count how many roses this is.”

“It’s five dozen,” I answer her and she gasps.

“One for every orgasm you gave me,” I joke and she howls in laughter.

“Don’t expect me to send you any flowers, then,” she says, and it’s my turn to laugh.

“Where are you?” I ask her, knowing she was going to call the lawyer to set up a meeting.

“Well, I’m unemployed, so I’m home,” she replies, and even though her voice is light, I can tell there is a sadness there.

“Do you want to come over to my house?” I ask her, walking into the kitchen. “Actually, just come over.”

“You went from asking me to telling me?” I can hear her moving on her end. “Typical Grant-slash-Stone-slash-Horton move.”

“I’ll make dinner, we can eat.” I open the fridge. “And then we can—”

“Have sex,” she cuts in. “I mean, I have to thank you for the flowers.”

“In that case, pack a bag,” I tease her. “I don’t have work until tomorrow night.”

“I saw you this morning,” she reminds me. “And yesterday and the day before that and the day before that.”

“Those days don’t count and the one in there before, before really doesn’t count because,” I say. “It was half a day.”

“Okay, fine,” she huffs, “twist a girl’s arm. Should I bring dessert?”

“I’m assuming you are coming with your sweet ass.” She gasps. “Dessert is sorted, then.”

“Goodbye, Chase,” she says and she doesn’t hang up. “See you soon.” Then she hangs up. I put my phone on the counter, shaking my head. When she told me we needed to talk while I was on the road, I was shocked it took her two days. I full-on expected her to do it five hours after I left. I thought for sure she would tell me it was a mistake. There was nothing she could have said that would have stopped anything between us.

I grab some vegetables, putting them in a pan to roast. I coat them in oil and then salt before adding them to the oven. I turn the oven on and then walk to the bedroom, going straight to the bathroom to take a shower. When I step out, I slip on my black jogging pants and I hear the knock on the door. I run my hand through my hair, pushing it back away from my face. I open the door and see her standing there holding a bag in one hand and wearing her black coat tied at the waist. “Hi.” I open the door wider to let her in. “Come in.”
