She managed a smile, but the fact remained, she’d be alone most of the time with their baby.

“Are you sure you’re up to meeting so late tonight for dinner? Because we can skip it,” he offered, unaware of her panicked thoughts.

She shook her head. “I’ll be fine. We can relax before then, right?”

“Of course. Want to watch a movie?” he asked.

“In that big media room?” With the couch that was perfect for sex, something she knew from experience, she mused.

He nodded, his eyes darkening with what she hoped were similar memories.

“Definitely,” she said.

Tugging her along, he led them to the room at the far end of the house. They stepped inside and she glanced at the seating options that hadn’t changed. Individual recliners or the massive sofa with oversized ottomans. She picked the couch where they could lie together, and she eased onto the cushions.

“Good choice. I’ll join you in a minute,” he said, his gaze watching steadily as she stretched herself out. “What movie do you want to watch?”

“One of yours?” she asked.

He shook his head. “That’s a no.”

She raised an eyebrow, surprised. She enjoyed his movies. He wasn’t just hot man meat. He was a talented actor, able to show a wide range of emotion. “Why not?”

“Because I can’t have sex with you while I’m on the large screen in front of us. Or listening to myself talk.”

Her pussy clenched at his words. “You think we’re going to have sex?” She was teasing him. She had every intention of getting lost in him, and whatever movie they chose didn’t matter in the least.

“Damn straight, beautiful girl. Now pick.”

She laughed. “Okay, how about Die Hard?”

“It’s not Christmas,” he said.

She groaned. “I’m not having the ‘is it or isn’t it a Christmas movie’ argument.” They negotiated, each suggesting a title until they finally agreed on an action adventure.

A few minutes later, he’d joined her on the couch, lounging beside her. He pulled her against him and wrapped one arm around her. She sighed and let her head rest against him. As always, when he was near comfort warred with arousal but before anything turned hot between them, she had something on her mind.

Something she’d been thinking about after watching his family dynamic. “Harrison?” She pushed herself up and they shifted so she faced him.

“What is it?” he asked.

“It’s just that watching you and your family got me thinking.”

“About?”

She twisted her hands together, her nerves obvious. “I think I want to get to know my father. The senator.”

“I know who your father is,” he said with a low chuckle. “Listen carefully.” His voice turned deeper and more serious. “Getting to know the man isn’t something to be scared of. You’re an adult and you can call the shots. When you see him, where you get together. And I truly believe he’s learned from the past. He won’t be repeating the same mistakes with you that he made with Nikki.”

And that was the crux of the problem, Winter thought. “But he allowed his wife, Nikki’s mother, to treat her so cruelly. He even followed her lead.”

“He did.” Harrison nodded. “But he also admitted he was weak. I’m not saying he’s suddenly a paragon of strength and virtue, but he has taken steps to be his own man. You’ve obviously seen that. Now you just need to decide if you’re willing to try with him.”

She pulled her bottom lip between her teeth and released it. “What if Nikki’s upset about my decision?”

Reaching out, he ran his knuckles down her cheek. “Look, from what I know of your sister, she wouldn’t begrudge you getting to know your father. And if he continues on the path he’s been on, I believe she’ll come around, too. In time.”

She perked up at the thought. “I hope so. Then we’d be more of a family.” She’d have a father and siblings and, dare she hope, holiday dinners? She shook her head, knowing she was getting ahead of herself.

The movie had begun, and she nudged him. “Come on. Let’s watch.” Everything else would sort itself out in time.

When Harrison had suggested this movie and Winter had agreed, she’d forgotten about the steamy love scene at the end. So now she lay in the arms of a man she wanted more than words could express. And she was supposedly a woman of words. At least, that was her career.

Her sex was heavy, and need pulsed inside her just as the credits began to roll and Winter sighed. “That was amazing.” Despite the need thrumming through her body, she still appreciated both the movie and the love scene she’d just watched.

“So now’s not the time to tell you how clinical the actual filming is?”

She reached out, cupped her hand over the bulge in his pants and wrapped her fingers around his hard length. “This doesn’t feel clinical to me,” she murmured in a husky voice. In fact, there was nothing cold about the erection throbbing against her hand.
