“Are you sure you don’t regret any of this? That you don’t wish you were still working for the logging company and that you weren’t involved in the farm?” I asked.

“Never,” he said. “Not even for a second. This is where I belong, Beth Ann. Here with you. This is our future.”

It was the exact word I thought of, and my heart filled even more.

“I’m so glad you said that,” I said. I stopped and turned to him, taking both of his hands in mine so I could look him in the eyes. “Because there’s more to our future than we even knew.”

“What do you mean?” he asked.

“I’m pregnant.”

Tears were already forming in my eyes, and I could see the sheer delight fill Jason’s face. He wrapped his arms around me and scooped me up, twirling me through the air. His mouth found mine as he lowered me to my feet, and he gave me a long, deep kiss.

“When did you find out?” he asked.

“I’ve suspected it for a few weeks, but I didn’t want to say anything until I was sure. I took a home test a couple of days ago and then went to the doctor yesterday to confirm.”

“That’s why you went to the doctor,” he said. “I was worried about you. I didn’t think you seemed sick.” He suddenly looked concerned. “Or have you been? Are you feeling alright?”

He reached out and took my arms like he thought he needed to hold me up. I giggled and reached up to press one hand over his.

“I’m fine,” I said. “I’m actually feeling really good. Hungry and a little more tired than usual, but I haven’t had any morning sickness. Of course, I say that now, and I will probably wake up tomorrow morning and be completely incapacitated. But at least I will have gotten to enjoy some of this in peace.”

Jason smiled wider and leaned down for another kiss.

“I can’t wait to tell everybody at the bonfire. That’s okay, right? Or do you want to hold off on that for a while?” he asked.

I shook my head. “No. I want to tell everybody. I’m so excited I don’t want to hold it in anymore.”

We linked hands again and made our way back to the house. When we got inside, we took a shower to wash off the dirt and sweat from the day of working outside. Rather than getting dressed as soon as we got out, though, I went into the bedroom and slipped naked into the bed. We still had a little bit of time before we had to leave.
