“Oh, Rowan,” Ivor whispered. “Thank you.”

“What for?” he whispered back.

“For being you. For what you’ve given me.”

“You gave me so much, too. But I’m looking forward to giving you more.”

Ivor tightened his arms. “You’ve given me more than you realize.”

Chapter Seventeen

Ivor

Rowan was definitely his soulmate. Ivor had absolutely no doubt about it, and he was awash with so many emotions, he took some private time to try and sort through them. He made sure Rowan was among a bunch of bodyguards and shut himself in one of the first-floor conference rooms, settling on the couch.

They’d held each other for so long, and he’d actually felt Rowan’s joy. He’d felt Rowan’s orgasm before that. Had felt the absolute pleasure he’d given the man. But it was the contentment Rowan had felt while they were cuddling afterward that was giving him so much happiness.

But that happiness was mixed with some worry, too. Mainly, he just hoped Rowan would be happy about this. He didn’t know where they would live—especially now that Rowan had lost his job—but he had every intention of asking him to stay here in Seattle with him. But if he wanted to go home, Ivor would be going with him.

That is, if he wanted the bond.

There wasn’t anything that made him feel Rowan wouldn’t want it, but it was a lot in a very short amount of time. He doubted the man was thinking forever at this point in their relationship. They’d basically spent all their time holed up in this office, their only intimacy kisses and now shared hand jobs.

And here he was, knowing that for him, this was a forever thing.

Ivor reeled over the knowledge. He could normally see when his magic drained someone. It was never a lot, but the telltale signs were usually visible. Paler skin and faint circles under the eyes. Rowan had none of that.

A surge of pure euphoria soared through him.

He had someone he could love, someone who could also sustain his magic without it hurting him. But mostly, it was having someone to love. Someone to share his long life with, and the fact that it was someone as special as Rowan?

There was a knock on the door, and he called out for them to come in.

Xavier stepped into the room, wearing a pair of slim gray slacks and a black sweater. There was a twinkle to his black eyes as he looked at Ivor, and Ivor couldn’t stop the massive grin that took over his face.

“You are emitting some very strong pheromones into the office today, Ivor,” Xavier said as he crossed the room and settled into a chair across from him.

“I would apologize, but I’m simply not sorry.”

“There’s no need for that anyway. Your happiness is coming through just as powerfully. Everyone is in a good mood.” He winked. “Some are very horny.”

Ivor snorted. He couldn’t help that. He’d seen Daniel tugging his visiting soulmate into his office before slamming the door shut right before he’d gone downstairs. He was used to his magic affecting those around him, and his desire for Rowan had been off the charts.

He eyed his employer, who’d become a friend over the years. “Why did you send me specifically to protect the Forrest family? Did you know what Rowan would be to me?”

Xavier tucked a strand of his loose hair behind his ear before nodding. “I had a vision of him for you before you even came to work for me.”

Shock punched him in the gut. “You did? That long ago? Why didn’t you tell me? Do you know how many years of wondering you could have saved me?”

“Those years were important, and everything needed to happen naturally. Have you told him?”

“Of course not. I just figured it out for myself, though I had an idea he might be right away because of the way I responded to him. But telling him? Now? He’d think I was crazy.”

“You might be surprised.” Xavier crossed his legs, still regarding Ivor. “He’s a wonderful man. You’re very lucky.”

“He’s incredible. I can’t believe how much I already care about him. This is all happening so fast, it has my mind spinning.”

“Meeting your soulmate is like that.”

Again, Ivor felt a stirring of surprise. Xavier’s words came from experience, but he was single as far as Ivor knew. Very single—to the point none of them had ever seen him with anyone.

“You’re thinking awfully hard,” Xavier said with a smile. “Yes, I had a soulmate, but he was killed.” He sighed. “It was a very long time ago, but I can still remember how fast and hard those feelings hit. I loved him instantly.”

“I can’t imagine…” Ivor leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees. “I’m so sorry you lost him. Fuck, Xavier.”

“Like I said, it was a very long time ago. I will always miss him, but time has dulled the ache.”
