She stood by his side. She loved him.
They had been the best ten years of her life. She had never known a time when she was this happy. Even when she was a child, she had good times and bad, just like anyone else.
At the sound of laughter, she turned to see that Shae was coming back with their five other children. They currently had three boys and two girls, with a third girl on the way, and she had a feeling this one was going to love soccer. She was not due until February. She just hoped her internal organs could take the beating their child was giving her.
Peyton watched as he swooped in and swing Molly around, and Daisy next, followed by Ben and Sean. Their eldest, Cameron, refused to be picked up, which she found so freaking cute. Ten years old, and already thinking he was a man, too grown up to be lifted in the air and spun around. It made her smile.
She knew that tonight he would still ask to be tucked in, and there was also a nightlight that helped him sleep. Yes, he was growing up so fast, but she was going to relish every single second he still wanted to be around his parents.
“Mommy, Daddy said there is ice cream and cookies.”
She laughed. “They are in the kitchen.”
All of their kids rushed into the kitchen, but they would not be fighting as she had already set out each bowl for them to take.
Shae came right up to her, as he did on every other occasion, and wrapped his arms around her.
“Evening, beautiful.”
“Evening.”
He sighed. “What have I told you about using the ladder?”
“It wasn’t the ladder. It was a couple of steps, and you know me, I’ve got to get ready for Christmas.”
“Thanksgiving is in a few days,” he said.
“Exactly. I want it to be bright and festive.” She wrapped her arms around him. “You know, I left you some ice cream and cookies as well.”
This made him laugh. “Trust me, I will eat them, but I am going to take the opportunity while our kids are distracted to kiss my beautiful wife.”
Just like the first time, this made her lips tingle and her toes curl. She closed her eyes and fell into his kiss.
Not once had the attraction faded between them. It was always as good as the first time.
“I love you,” he said.
“And I love you.”
The End
