I ground my teeth together in frustration. I wanted to argue the point, but I had never been that asshole before, and I wasn’t going to start now. Not with Destiny. “Back to my place?” I suggested hoarsely, wondering if I could get my cock to stand down long enough to get out of this party without someone noticing. I doubted it. Good thing I had this cape.

Destiny’s lips were shining red in the dim light, and her eyes were still heavy lidded with lust, so it surprised me when she hesitated again. She had her arms wrapped around her, and she looked like she was wrestling with a decision.

“Or yours,” I said, hoping to make that decision easier for her. It didn’t matter to me. If she hadn’t stopped me, I’d have pulled her down to this dusty floor and made love to her to the sound of blood curdling screams.

“Not here,” she said immediately, then bit her lip, looking at me so intensely that some of the blood did actually leave my cock and circulate back up to my brain. As it flowed, the synapses began firing again. Something was going on here. Something I didn’t fully understand.

“Destiny, it doesn’t have to be anywhere,” I said, the words coming slowly because they were against everything my body wanted. “But if it’s not going to happen, you have to tell me. I’m not that guy, but I’m not made of stone either.”

“I want it to be somewhere,” she said, her words coming slowly too, as if they were coming from a long way off. Her teeth were very white against her full pink lower lip. The black makeup on the top was smudged, and I swiped the back of my hand across my own mouth to make sure the evidence wasn’t all over my face.

“Anywhere you want,” I promised. “Hotel. The Hollywood sign. Just tell me.”

“Your place, but there is something else I need to tell you first.”

The blood had started to flow back down, but now the synapses fired again. Reminded me that there was something happening I didn’t understand. Something important.

My mind leapt to the most logical conclusion.

She was lying about Andrew.

They were together.

Some crisis of conscience was prompting her to tell me about it. Her lips were parting. I wished her conscience was a person so I could wrap my hands around its neck and strangle it before the damage was done.

Then she said the last words I ever expected to hear.

“I haven’t done this before.”

I twisted my fingers in her hair, pulling her head back so she had to look at me. Her blue-green eyes were shining with a light I’d never seen in them before. Her cherry red lips were parted. Below her perfect face, snug against my chest, her breasts were rising and falling with the force of her rapid breathing.

“Say that again,” I ordered, hoping like hell I’d misheard her.

She frowned at the tone in my voice. “I haven’t done this before.”

No, I’d heard her correctly.

Destiny Pollock, a regular feature in Maxim’s Hot 100, was a virgin. All of the things I wanted to do to her–imagined doing to her–would be her first experiences. I waited for the disgust to set in. The reminder that she’d been twelve when I met her. The reminder that she was like Noemi’s little sister.

The realization that I couldn’t have her.

DESTINY

Garrett couldn’t have looked more shocked if I’d turned into a real cat and licked him with my sandpaper tongue.

His mouth opened and closed, gaping like a fish in the bottom of a canoe. All that was missing was the hook through his lip.

“How the fuck are you a virgin?” he asked, so much amazement in his voice I didn’t know whether I should be offended or not. “Are you–I mean–”

Irritation pricked through the lust and want and embarrassment I was feeling. “Are you really asking if I’m sure?” I demanded. “You mean because I’ve been blowing billionaires below deck all year? You think maybe I’m just confused about what a virgin is?”

“Whoa.” Garrett held up his hands, palm out, like I was a skittish horse and he was the animal coordinator. “I never said I thought that. I said other people thought it. For the record, I didn’t think that. Not after I met you.”

I stared up into his elegantly handsome face and wanted to put my sharpened-to-a-point fingernails through his whiskey-colored eyes. Had I really been about to have sex with this man after years of waiting for the right one? What on earth had I been thinking? “Well thank you so much,” I said, laying the sarcasm on thick. “I can see this was a big mistake. Thanks for making that clear before it went any further.”

I pushed past him and headed for the exit.
