I freeze in shock.
And she seems to feel this, which then makes her press her lips harder to mine...and that’s when something primitive and starving takes over.
I lift her onto the marble countertop in one swift motion, my hands already bunching up her skirt. She gasps against my mouth, her legs falling open to accommodate me as I step between them.
“Need you,” I manage to say against her throat, my voice rough and uneven, my teeth scraping her pulse point. “I need to be inside you—”
“Then take me.”
I’m spinning her around as soon as she says this, and I feel her body tremble violently as I bend her over the cool marble.
Her palms press flat against the surface as I yank her panties aside and free myself from my pants. I’m so hard it hurts, so desperate for her that my hands shake as I position myself at her entrance.
“Tell me you want this,” I rasp, the head of my cock barely breaching her wet heat.
“I want this,” she whispers. “I want you.”
I thrust into her in one savage stroke, and we both cry out at the sensation. She’s tight and wet and perfect, and I have to grip the edge of the counter to keep from coming immediately.
Too good, dammit.
She feels so damn good I don’t know how long I can last.
I clench my teeth as I start to move, each thrust hard and desperate as I find myself claiming her the only way I know how. She pushes back against me, meeting me stroke for stroke, and the sounds she makes—little gasps and whimpers that echo off the marble walls—drive me closer to the edge.
“Mine,” I snarl against her ear, my hand fisting in her hair. “You’re mine, Scarlette. Say it.”
“Yours,” she chokes out, her inner walls clenching around me. “Only yours, Lykan. Only—aaah.”
My Scarlette comes apart in my arms, her body convulsing as she cries out my name. The sight and sound of her pleasure triggers my own release, and I bury myself deep as I spill inside her, my teeth sinking into the curve of her shoulder to muffle my groan.
For long moments, we stay frozen like that, her bent over the counter, me draped over her back, both of us struggling to catch our breath. The only sounds are our ragged breathing and the distant murmur of voices from the conference room.
Finally, I straighten and help her turn around, settling her back on the countertop. Her hair is mussed, her lips swollen, and her eyes clouded with passion. But when she raises her hands to cup my face again, her expression turns determined, and it makes my heart thunder hard against my chest for some strange reason.
“I need you to listen to me, Lykan Qahiri. Really listen, okay?”
And for the second time, I brace myself for rejection...
“It’s true I fell in love with Vaughn when I was sixteen.”
Fuck.
“Or at least I thought it was love—”
All I can do is look away at this point.
“Until I met you.”
What did she just—
My gaze snaps back to her, and a smile wobbles to her lips.
“I’m sorry that it took me a while to realize the difference,” she says shakily. “It was when I thought I almost lost you that I realized...it’s just not the same. Because what I felt for him, I could always control. But with you...”
“Don’t stop now.”
A helpless laugh escapes her, but I don’t give a damn.
“It’s the opposite,” she says simply.
“You have to do better than that.”
I usually don’t give a damn about what people say, but where Scarlette’s concerned, I have absolutely no shame in asking her point blank to enumerate all the ways I’m better than Vaughn.
“Oh, Lykan.”
Scarlette’s tone is just as wobbly as her smile now, but it’s the light in her eyes that makes me feel I’ve just had a glimpse of heaven.
“What I feel for you makes me feel like I’m always in danger of losing control...”
I can definitely relate to that.
“And while I don’t know if that’s how it’s supposed to be, or how it’s always going to be...” She takes a deep breath. “I’m willing to take the risk—”
Her lower lip trembles slightly, and I can see how much courage this is taking her.
“Because I’m already completely in love with you.”
The words nearly knock me off my feet.
Scarlette...is in love with me.
Me.
She’s in love with me.
“And now I need to know,” she says tremulously.
Ah, my love.
“Do you think—”
“I’m sorry, Scarlette.”
Her face pales.
“There’s nothing to think about.”
Because if she’s willing to risk it all, so am I.
“I fell for you the moment I saw you.”
She starts to cry, and her hands fall from my face.
“And even in the times I hurt you, and even when I forced myself to stay away—”
It’s my turn to cup her face.
“I never stopped loving you.”
