It hadn’t worked, and I’d had to run out of there with my tail tucked between my legs before jumping back into the truck and heading back to the house to try to convince Aaron to buy us beer.

He had, but on the condition that I tell Mom I’d gotten stomach flu once I start puking my guts up. I’d promised that I would, and he’d come back with a twelve-pack of giant Coors Lights.

Lucy had managed to get down one and a half of her beers before going straight to the bathroom and throwing up. She hadn’t had anything to eat since lunch, and her tiny frame hadn’t been able to support the alcohol. Molly had followed soon after, and much to Adam’s and my shame, we hadn’t lasted much longer.

“Thank God Mom and Dad were out of the house that day,” Adam said, looking from one of us to the other, grinning widely. “We would’ve gotten into so much trouble if they’d caught us.”

“Seriously,” Lucy said, running her hand through her long hair. “And we would’ve gotten into even more trouble if we’d done half of the shit that Molly had thought of doing when she’d initially come over.”

I widened my eyes at her, glancing briefly at Adam before turning back to her. “How do you know that was what she wanted to do?”

“Because when she was drunk on the floor of the bathroom and she was groaning, she was talking about how cute you guys are and how sad it was that you guys didn’t think that we were cute also. She also mentioned what a shame it was that you guys were such gentlemen.”

Adam chuckled. “Mom’s gonna love that.”

“Did you think that too?”

“That’s absolutely none of your business,” she said, taking another sip as she raised her eyebrows.

“No, seriously,” I asked, leaning forward with a grin. “Do you wish that one of us would be… less gentlemanly with you?”

The blush started to creep up her face, but she continued to hold my gaze as she ran the tip of her finger over the rim of her beer bottle. I felt a small kick under the table and knew that that might’ve been too much.

“I don’t know,” she said.

She shrugged, bending over and patting me on the thigh. “There’s still time.”

At the contact, I felt the blood immediately rush to my cock, making me go harder than the hammer I used to maintain the barns. I looked over at my brother, hoping the look was steady, but had a feeling it came off a little more desperate than I’d intended.

“Listen, Luce,” Adam said, and Lucy turned to face him, biting her lip. I swallowed a little at the sight of her doing that, and I was seized with the desire to lean in and kiss her. “The reason I asked you to come meet us here was because we both had something we wanted to talk to you about.”

She looked between the two of us, curious. “Okay….”

“I think we should go somewhere a little more private though,” I said. “This is kind of a personal talk.”

She looked between us as if trying to figure out what was up. “Okay,” she said finally.

“Meet us as Adam’s.”

The soft knock at his door twenty minutes later got our attention, and Adam went to open it. Again, Lucy seemed to be lit up from behind by the moonlight as she entered. The tension seemed to thicken as she walked in, looking between the two of us.

“Do you want another drink?” Adam asked.

“Sure,” she asked, and he went to the fridge, grabbing another beer.

“Come on,” I said, gesturing for her to come to the couch. She sat down, and the two of us sat down on either side of her, fairly boxing her in. She was so small compared to the two of us, but her personality seemed to take up the whole room.

“So,” she said taking a sip, “what did you want to talk about?”

ADAM

Honestly, it had only been in my wildest dreams that I’d thought I would have Lucy in my apartment, sitting on my couch and having a beer as we talked about having a potential relationship. The yellow light from my lamp was shining off her hair, turning it a deeper gold color than it had been in the bar. The lavender and green-hay smell coming off her hair was intoxicating to me.

Of course, in those wild dreams, I never could’ve anticipated that my brother would’ve been with me as we both told her that we’d been having feelings for her.

That we both hadn’t been able to stop thinking about her, and that we were each happy to pursue something with her.

“So?” she said, looking back and forth between us. “What did you want to talk about?”

I gave her a wan smile before pushing my hand through my hair, clearing my throat and doing my best to marshal my words.
