Moving away from her tiny spot in the corner, she began to make her way across the main room, keeping close to the shadows as she did so.

Diana didn’t need her to stick around and watch that kind of crap. She doubted her friend would even use her at the end of the night to take her home. If she found a man for the night, Nikki was on her own. She was more than okay with that.

Walking past the bathrooms, she found a door that led her out into another part of the clubhouse. There was a short corridor, but it was dark, and she didn’t want to risk going to places she didn’t belong. Nibbling her bottom lip, she glanced left and right, and then took her time, making her way left, that opened into what appeared to be a small library.

There was no door to this room, but she didn’t see anyone there either. It was quiet. Well, as quiet as hearing the loud music from the main clubhouse, but it was easier to think.

No men drinking, laughing, and no scantily clad women begging to be chased by random men. It was just a room. A room, and silence.

“You’re not supposed to be in here.”

The hard, rugged voice took her by surprise, and she whirled around to see him. She hadn’t spotted the light in the corner of the room. It was a man, sitting, one ankle resting atop his knee, and it looked like he had a book resting on his thighs.

“Uh, I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to intrude.”

“But you have,” he said.

Nikki was so embarrassed. This had never happened to her. She was not the kind of woman to go snooping around homes or places that were not her own. “I am so sorry. I didn’t mean—”

“Who are you?” he asked, cutting her off.

Clearly, this was a man who was used to getting answers the first time. He looked positively terrifying. She couldn’t recall feeling this nervous before in her life. She never failed to form words. He must think she was so stupid.

“Nikki, uh, Nikki Brown. I came here with my friend, Diana. She regularly comes here.” She pointed behind her, hoping in the back of her mind that her best friend would come and bail her out. Not that she was so lucky.

He smirked. “One of the desperate.”

“Desperate?”

“Your friend is so obviously trying to find a man willing to take her as his old lady.”

She didn’t like that he seemed to find that funny. “Why are you laughing?”

“All the men see right through her, and there is no way she is old lady material.”

Nikki frowned. “So you’re using my friend?”

“She’s the one getting used. Have you come to try your hand? Wanting to play with the big boys.”

She couldn’t help but be disgusted and she shook her head. “No, thank you, I don’t think so.”

This was not happening. She spun on her heel, about to turn away and leave. She’d rather spend the rest of the night in the car than listen to this, or have to be thought of as desperate. Gross.

Tomorrow, she was going to have a severe talking to with Diana. Her friend needed to know the truth, and then she might grow up out of this crap, once and for all. Anger rushed through her. She couldn’t believe what he was saying.

“What makes you think you’re so different?” he asked.

Nikki stopped. In the back of her mind, she knew she should turn around and walk out. This was not the time nor the place for such a conversation. First of all, she was on his turf. She didn’t know why, but she got the sense he was important. Maybe it was his aura or the way he carried himself, but either way, she knew she had to tread carefully. Second, it was just rude to pick a fight and argue with the owner, if that was who he was.

“I didn’t come here looking for a good time, nor am I desperate to be part of this club. I’m here for Diana when she needs me. If she doesn’t find what she is looking for.”

He chuckled. “You mean if the men play hard to get, and she has to go home empty-handed.”

“Why do you have to be so crude?”

“That’s not being crude, Love. Telling you if they find a tighter pussy to slip their dick into, that your friend is old news, is slightly cruder, but trust me, I can go harder if you’d like.”

Nikki shook her head. “Whatever. I’ll go and wait in my car.”

“I would just drive home, unless you’re hoping to be riding someone’s dick. Trust me, the men always have use for a piece of pussy.”

“I’ll wait in my car, thanks.”

This time, she didn’t stop, not even to look back, although a part of her really wanted to. She didn’t. There was no point in looking back and seeing his smug face.
