Delilah followed me with a glowing smile on her face like she was having the time of her life. Granted, this was one of the most exciting things that we had done, coming from a sheltered, small town girl and a locked-down, spoiled girl.

“My car is parked down the street,” she told me once we stepped out of the stairwell just outside of the building. We turned and smiled at each other, unable to believe that we’d made it this far. It would only be a matter of seconds before the boys knew I was missing, though.

“Let’s go,” I said as I nodded and let her lead the way, our laughter echoing up and down the street as nighttime took hold of the city.

EMERY

Dance music thumped so loudly that I could’ve confused it for my heartbeat as the bass thundered in my chest. I drank in the noise, though, letting it fill my ears as I moved around on the dance floor. I tilted my head back, watching the colorful strobe lights flicker along the top of the club’s roof in their own dance.

“This is so fun!” I shouted to Delilah, who danced a foot away from me and was caught up in her own world.

“I know, right!” Delilah yelled back, flashing me an excited smile as she held her hands out to me.

I threaded our fingers together as we danced opposite of each other, swaying and lightly jumping to the energetic beat. Adrenaline soared through my veins, heat kissing my skin all over. I couldn’t believe I had been missing out on such fun.

When the song finished, I brushed my fingers through my hair, pulling any loose strands back from my face. So many heated, moving bodies surrounded me, but I didn’t feel claustrophobic in the slightest. I felt alive, and some of that was probably thanks to the two shots I took on top of the wine I drank. At least I was still standing and functioning fine.

“We should take another shot!” Delilah suggested.

Another shot would probably make me drunk, but what was I holding back for? It was instilled in my nature to be cautious, but who knew when I would get another chance to party like this? I was already in trouble, so I might as well keep going.

“Okay!” I said before letting her whisk me away from the busy dance floor and toward the equally busy bar. We waited behind a line of people already standing at the bar, fanning ourselves as the heat seemed to intensify.

“Do they have working air or what?” Delilah breathed out with her face flushed red.

“Doesn’t feel like it,” I replied, but I wasn’t too bothered. It just felt like we were in a sauna. My dress clutched my body tightly, but it was supposed to hug my curves anyway. It was so nice getting to wear cute clothes for once without getting asked fifty questions and then being told to change.

“Hey, sexy.”

I looked up to see one of the guys at the bar grinning at me. He was probably a decade older than me, but his short blonde hair was nicely groomed, and he wore a collared shirt and jeans that showed off his fit body. He certainly wasn’t ugly, but his words or his smile didn’t make me weak at the knees like my bodyguards made me feel.

“Hey,” I said with a polite nod.

“Can I get you a drink?” the man asked me.

I turned to Delilah to tell her that we were about to score free drinks, but I paused when I saw how pale she looked.

“Are you okay?” I asked her.

Delilah responded by throwing up on the floor, holding her stomach as she lurched downward.

I gasped and quickly pulled her hair back from her face, hearing her groan. No wonder she looked so sick. She could overdo things at time. It wasn’t like she tested her limits when she was a teenager. When she managed to straighten up, I slipped up to the bar and got her a glass of water before helping her off to the side.

“Drink this,” I told her as I handed the glass of water over to her. Just from looking at her, I could see that she was clammy.

“I drank too much,” Delilah murmured weakly before sipping on the water.

“Happens to the best of us,” I assured her with a small smile, trying to lift her spirits. There was nothing else that could kill a buzz quicker than throwing up everything she already drank that night.

Delilah smiled a hint before lowering the water.

“I still don’t feel all that well,” she said.

“I can get a cab to take you back to your hotel,” I offered. I knew how to call for a cab now.

“I don’t want our night together to end,” Delilah replied with a small pout. Guilt flooded her expression, but I didn’t want her to feel bad. We had both drank a little too much.
