Do I want to live on the edge? Yes.

“Foxy, woman.” Jude’s voice does nothing to deter me, and not only does he make my core throb, I’m also suddenly dying of thirst.

“Are we playing?” Try as I might, there’s no way I can ignore the way he makes me feel.

“Waiting on a server.” I’d have known that had my eyes not been seared to his entire time. Jude sucks in a breath, in doing so, his cheeks hollow inward. His jawline is sharp, the stubble doing nothing to hide the verbal foreplay we have going on.

“Be right back. I need a drink. I’m suddenly feeling very parched.” I put on a show of moving from my sitting position. My ass is more than likely filling the screen. Sue me. Jude has no problem being half naked any chance he gets. Why shouldn’t I pay him back? It’s hard as fuck not to look over my shoulder as I make the short trek to my kitchen, open the fridge, and bend down since my apartment doesn’t spring for any type of upgrades when the current one is working. I grab a bottle of Vitamin Water, opening it as I spin around, and hip check the door for it to close.

“You’re not the only one who needs a drink, Foxy. Jesus, you should come with a damn warning label, woman.” I take a big gulp, swallowing down half the bottle’s contents. The bad part about bartending is when you’re slammed like we were tonight, there’s no way to leave your area to pee, and you learn not to drink a lot in doing so.

“Says the man who never wears a shirt.” I’m screwing on the lid when a sudden wave of exhaustion hits me. There’s no hiding the yawn, either, especially when Jude’s eyes haven’t left me.

“Do that just for you. Ronnie, get your ass in bed. You’re dead on your feet. We’re still waiting on a server, and you’re about to fall asleep standing up.” My hopes instantly deflate. I wanted to spend more time with Jude. Maybe not necessarily play a game, but with the yearning to hear his voice and seeing him even though it’s through the phone, it’s upsetting that I don’t get to enjoy more of him.

“I’m okay, promise,” I try to convince him and myself.

“Foxy, turn the game and TV off. Get in bed. We’ll talk until you fall asleep, yeah?” Damn, that’s a win-win in my book.

“Okay. Are you going to bed, too?” My feet propel me to do exactly as Jude says. After a few clicks of the remote, everything is off, including the light. I grab my phone off the table and carry Jude with me through the dark hallway.

“Yeah, Ronnie. I am.” I nearly stub my toe on the door frame leading into my bedroom. Jude’s wearing what looks like a loose pair of pajama shorts, dark green, and the rest of him is completely bare. His hat is gone, and it looks like his fingers have been in his hair a lot throughout the day.

“Okay.” I shuffle my feet to my bed. I never did make the bed, not like I ever do, it’s more of a pain in the ass with nights like this. The bathroom light is already on, and the door is cracked. My need to have some kind of light on is irritational, especially with the hours I work. Once I’m settled, I prop my phone up, this time on a pillow, and snuggle into the covers.

Jude goes through similar motions, except his bedroom is a lot bigger than mine, and his bed, well, it’s massive. Then again, Jude is tall, muscular, and needs the room. I keep my eyes open, wanting to watch every movement, every nuance of his strong muscles moving as he whips the comforter and sheet back and lays his head on a pillow. My eyes droop, another yawn hitting me hard, both of which is annoying. I really don’t want to miss a thing, but the busy week I’ve had, along with trying to get ready for the festival, picking out my outfits, making sure I’m prepared for the Florida heat, well, it’s taking a toll on any form of resting.

“I’m going to make it my mission to have you in my bed with me, Ronnie,” is the last thing I hear before sleep takes me under.

JUDE

I’m awake before Ronnie, not that I’m surprised in the least. The hours she’s been working to make it to our four-day event should make me feel like a complete dick. Yet it doesn’t, especially since I’ll be with her the entire time. She won’t be working non-fucking-stop. Let me rephrase that, and this is where I do sound like an utter asshole. Our schedules are so damn conflicting, it’s why we’re just now meeting in person. I’ve been working on a contract for another app, one that has been kicking my dick in the dirt. Anytime I think I’ve got it perfected, the company comes back with five more changes. The deposit they’ve given me has long since diminished, and the invoice I sent them last night might have them reconsidering their way of thinking.
