Montana was passed out in my arms, soft snores leaving her lips. Her head was resting on my chest, her hands folded over her stomach.

“She had an accident,” I whispered. “Can I put her to bed?” I didn’t want to risk waking her. She needed her rest after the day she’d had.

He nodded and opened the door wider, allowing me through. He pointed to a room down a hall, and I quickly made my way there, gently depositing her sleeping form on the bed. I managed to get her shoes off of her before I covered her up.

Her face was relaxed, not tense like it normally was. Her lips were softly parted, her lashes gently caressing her cheekbones.

This woman was stunning, and when she wasn’t high, her fucking soul was capable of ensnaring you.

The way she’d cuddled up to me today in the hospital, seeking comfort in my arms as she dozed on and off—it wrecked my soul.

This woman was doing funny shit to me.

Honestly, she had been for a long time, but it had been easy to ignore it when I was angry at her and hated her for her drug habits . . . and for my fucking car. But after seeing how she’d been struggling lately . . . everything had changed.

I leaned down and pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead before quietly stepping out of her room. I moved to close the door, but John quickly stopped me.

“Don’t. She’ll wake up panicked. She’s claustrophobic—bad.” He shook his head and dropped onto the couch. I left the door open and stepped into the living room. He looked up at me. “What the fuck happened?”

“I found her out jogging in my neighborhood.” His eyes widened. Even he knew how far of a jog that was. A curse flew from his lips. “I was thankfully there when she passed out. Doc said she had a drop in blood pressure when I took her to the ER.”

“Fuck,” he swore. “I went looking for her everywhere. Never thought to look for her in the hospital. Figured she went off to be alone somewhere.”

I shrugged and shoved my hands in my pockets. “You know where I can find Jonah?”

John studied me for a moment. I knew Jonah was his best friend, and his loyalty lay there. Finally though, he sighed. “I imagine he’s at the shop. You know where it is, right?”

I nodded. While Montana had been having one of her naps, I’d done my research on Jonah.

“Call me if she gets worse.”

John nodded. “Anything I should be made aware of?”

I looked down the hall to where her room was. Silence rang from that end of the house. “Doc said dizzy spells, fainting, bad balance—that kind of thing. She needs to eat more.”

John snorted at that. I didn’t comment. I glanced at my watch. “I’ll see you around.”

I headed out of his house, only one thing on my mind now.

And that was to beat the absolute shit out of Jonah for touching Montana when I explicitly gave the order not to.

Jonah was closing the hood on a car when I stepped into his garage. He was covered in grease, his clothes stained and dirty. It was a far cry from the clean look I always kept.

“Got a feeling you aren’t here for a fucking oil change,” Jonah mused, wiping his hands on a grease rag.

I narrowed my eyes at him. “Want to explain to me why I just found out Montana’s pregnant, and then on top of that shit, you’re the goddamn dad?”

He shrugged. “Happened before your order went out, Blaze.” That stopped me. “Woman was high as fuck when she and I screwed. After that, John and I worked on getting her detoxed. I just found out a few days ago. Honestly, I’m still trying to wrap my head around the fact that I’m going to be a damn dad in a few months.”

I clenched my jaw. “So, you’re telling me that you’re not even trying to be there for her right now?”

He glared at me. “Don’t put words in my fucking mouth, Blaze. Yes, I’m trying to be there for her. I even offered for her to move in with me so I can help take better care of her, but right now, she wants her brother.” He sighed. “I don’t think she’s coping. It’s clear she doesn’t want to be pregnant.”

I nodded, agreeing with him. I’d seen that today, too.

“She passed out today on her morning jog,” I informed him. “I thankfully happened to be there. Her blood pressure dropped too fast, which is shocking considering she had been running, and on top of that, we’d been arguing.” Jonah clenched his jaw, narrowing his eyes at me. “She spent the majority of the day in the hospital. I just took her home about thirty minutes ago. John’s with her.”
