Because nothing had ever felt quite like this.

“Maeve,” Donovan called, pulling me out of a fuzzy, almost dreamlike state.

“Mmm?” I asked, still trying to make my mind and mouth work in unison.

“We’re doing this, right?”

“Doing this?” I repeated, lifting up to look down at him.

“Yeah, you and me. We’re doing this?”

“By ‘this,’ you mean…”

“Yeah. Something serious. We doing that?”

“I mean, I, ah, I…”

“Let me try this again. I’m pretty sure I’ve been falling for you. So I need to know if the feeling is mutual, and if you are interested in something in the serious way.”

“I, yeah. It’s… mutual.” In fact, I wasn’t just falling for him, I had fallen. Hard. “And I would like that.”

“I…” Donovan started, but was cut off by Triss calling from the bottom of the stairs.

“Hey, we have another great idea for the site!”

I was never going to get out from the shadow of that site, I guess.

Which was okay.

Because only I would know that no matter how good any fans or club girls might claim these men were, they were infinitely better.

As friends.

As my newfound family.

And the love of my life.

Epilogue

Donovan - 1 day

It was actually kind of surprising that none of us had put the pieces together before Arty dropped the news.

There had been several times when one of the girls would say something about someone in the club, or one of the women, that just seemed too… familiar. Like it was information it was not likely they had uncovered themselves. At least not so quickly.

But we’d all just brushed it off. Which was easy to do when Triss jumped from one point of conversation to the next at a breakneck speed.

I guess I didn’t associate it with Maeve because the voice on the website was kind of extroverted and confident.

I guess because, for her, it was more fantasy than reality. Until she came to know us personally.

She saw us and the club more as characters than actual people.

I guess it was similar when people wrote erotic fan fiction about their favorite celebrities. Even if they had met or interacted with said celebrity.

Clearly, judging by her response when the news finally dropped, she was horrified at the idea of any of us looking at her differently for operating the site.

And while I knew the newer guys had no problem with it, I had my own personal concerns about the OG guys.

Which was why I slipped out of bed early, knowing I would catch Huck and Che up. McCoy was at his place. As were Remy and Seeley.

But it was Huck I was the most concerned with anyway.

“Here for the update?” Huck asked, nodding at me from his position on a chaise in the backyard with a coffee cup in his hand.

“Update?” I asked, easing myself down. I wouldn’t admit it to the worried Maeve, but my ribs were fucking killing me from the swim and all the other shit the day before. My wrist wasn’t feeling much better.

“With your Russian friend,” he clarified, brows pinching.

“Oh, right. Yeah. How’d that go?”

“She’s a stubborn-ass woman,” Huck said. “But I think between Maeve and the rest of us, we talked some sense into her. I want to keep an eye on her, but I think she’s directing her anger where it belongs.”

“Rolan,” I said.

“Yeah. It’s probably a suicide mission, but that’s her path, it seems. Why does it look like you’re not interested in this?” he asked.

“Because I actually wanted to talk to you about Maeve.”

“She alright?” he asked, frowning.

“Yeah. Actually, I wanted to talk to you about the fact that she’s the one who’s been running that fan site about the club.”

“Oh, that,” he said, waving a hand as if it was old news. “Please. Do you think I’ve heard anything but Harm talking about that to Sass and Shy and Ama and Ayanna and fucking Gus?” he asked, shaking his head.

“I know the club and Triss and fucking Arty, of all people, have it in their heads to create an even bigger fan site, but I wanted to talk to you about it.”

“The way I see it,” he said after a moment, his gaze going to the tortoise as he finally found his pile of greens someone had tossed out for him, and started eating. “It’s better that we know who runs the site. We have control over what information is shared now, right?”

“Right,” I agreed, nodding.

“We could even… misdirect on occasion,” he said. “Your girl is a writer. She can… create stories if we need her to.”

“Yeah, she could do that,” I agreed.

“So, I say we let it play out. If shit gets weird or dangerous for us, we shut that shit down. It’s not something I’m worried about.”

“You’re sure?” I asked.

“Yeah,” he said, nodding as he moved to stand. “And not just because Levee looked like he was gonna cry when McCoy suggested we consider taking the site down.”
