Antwone let go of her hips and then cupped her face. “Look at me, Candice.”

Tears filled her eyes. “I don’t want to leave him.”

“You’ll be leaving him with me. I need you to do this.”

“I can’t.”

“Why?”

Seeing her so upset broke his heart, but he couldn’t keep ignoring this either. He knew her life had forever been changed because of him, but that didn’t mean her life had to be so limited. She could have anything, and he’d give it to her. The only thing he wouldn’t do was allow her to leave him. There were limits to what he could and couldn’t do to help her.

“I’m scared,” she said, finally admitting the truth after several minutes. Her lip quivered and he saw the fear in her eyes. “I … what … you’re going to get rid of me.”

“Never.”

“You left,” she said. The tears that had been shining in her eyes started to fall down her cheeks, and he wiped them away with his thumbs.

He knew he’d hurt her that morning. Staring at her as he got dressed, knowing he intended to leave her completely, was the hardest thing he had done. Harder than helping Draven take over and kill their father. Harder than all the killing he’d done. Hurting this woman was like he was killing himself, but far worse.

“I didn’t want to. I thought I was doing what was best for you. Those nights spent with you, sitting at that fucking bar were the best nights of my life. Meeting you was the best thing that ever happened to me.” He looked at her plump and inviting lips.

All he wanted to do was fuck her.

“I will never leave you again.”

“How can I believe you?”

Chapter Eleven

“How can I believe you?”

The words kept repeating in his head, because the truth was, Antwone didn’t have the first clue how to answer it.

He’d left for her own safety, and now he married her and took care of her, for her own safety. Everything he did was for her safety and because he loved her.

Staring across the empty room of his office, he lifted the glass of scotch he poured himself and tried to ponder the way to reach his woman.

Candice belonged to him, all him, and he didn’t want to give her up. He took a long drink of his scotch and enjoyed the burn. He just couldn’t figure out how to convince his woman that he loved her and he’d never leave.

“Are you okay?”

Antwone looked up to find his woman standing in the doorway of his office. She wore a red robe that had fallen off one shoulder. Her blonde hair spilled around her face in a mass of curls. He loved her hair.

“How can I get you to forgive me?” he asked.

The only person in his world that had all the answers was Candice. She was the only person who could help him.

She stepped into the room, taking it one step at a time, and then she sat down on the coffee table in his office. This one was made of a fine oak. Staring at Candice, he waited for her to tell him what to do. No words were said.

“Do you want a drink?” he asked.

“I can’t.”

She was still breastfeeding their son. Just the thought of it had his cock going hard. For the past few months, in fact, since they were married, he’d spent most of his nights with his hand wrapped around his dick, dealing with his arousal.

Being close to Candice and not being able to touch her was nothing but torture. He hated it. All he wanted to do was to take care of her, make love, to fuck. That one night wasn’t enough, not really, because he wanted so much more.

He gave a chuckle. “You know I’ve been to fucking hell and back. I’ve stared the devil in the face and laughed. I’ve almost died. My dad…” He stopped and couldn’t help but laugh. “My dad, fuck me, it’s been a long time since I’ve said those words. That evil fucker tried to kill me. Yeah, I’ve seen a lot of bad shit in my time. Done a lot of bad fucking shit, but I would do it all over again, if it could mean I’d get one more day, one more night, where you don’t look at me as if I’m the monster in my story.”

There was a lot he’d give for Candice to look at him as if he was her man again. He watched as she licked her lips, nibbled at the corner of her mouth, and then she moved. Maybe it was the alcohol but her movements seemed to be slow. She went to her knees on the floor before him, putting her hands on his thighs.

Even that touch was everything. She slowly trailed her hands up his body, going toward his dick. He didn’t even try to the hide the fact he was hard as rock. She grabbed the waistband of his pants and began to pull it down, revealing his cock.
