She sucked in a breath, her eyes widening. Yeah. There was no way I couldn’t kiss her.

Carefully, making sure she had a chance to pull back if she didn’t want my touch, I lowered my head to hers. The animalistic part of me was screaming for me to cage her in. To wrap her up in my arms so she couldn’t get away from me, but the logical part of my brain knew that would be the worst mistake. Chloe was already skittish. The last thing she needed was to feel like she was being pressured into something she didn’t want.

The second my lips made contact with hers, I knew I was in deep trouble. She gasped, her hands going to my shirt. Instead of pushing me away, her hands bunched in the material, and she clutched me to her. She didn’t really participate in the kiss. Instead, she just tilted her head up, allowing it as if making up her mind what to do next. Then her fingers relaxed their hold on my shirt, and her hands slid up my chest and shoulders to circle my neck loosely and she fucking sighed. That was my permission.

I grunted my approval before deepening the kiss, my tongue sweeping the seam of her lips, seeking entry. I slid one of my hands to her shoulder while I tunneled my fingers through her hair, being careful to only cradle her head, not to grip her hair.

Then the best sound I’d ever heard filled my ears. Chloe moaned as she settled in and just let me have her. Her tongue gave a tentative stroke against mine, and she shivered. Hell, I wasn’t sure I didn’t shiver. Chloe’s kisses were the sweetest I’d ever tasted. As she leaned against me, her body molded itself against me like she fucking belonged there. Maybe she did. I sure as hell wanted her there.

After several seconds, I ended the kiss, not wanting to take things further than she was ready to go. Her eyes were closed, her face tipped up to mine. When she opened her eyes, their pale blue depths seemed to sparkle at me, desire shining when I knew she had no concept of the depths of lust I’d take her to.

I put my forehead against hers as we both struggled to catch our breath. “Fuck me,” I muttered. “Never tasted anything so Goddamned sweet.”

“I’ve never been kissed like that.” She sounded adorably bemused, like she couldn’t quite figure out what had just happened.

“Not sure I have either, baby.”

She blinked several times, then stepped back, her eyes going wide and her hand going over her mouth. “Oh, God. I bet I stink.”

I shook my head. “No way, honey. You smell like the outdoors. Rich soil. Pine. Foliage. Autumn rain.” I grabbed a handful of those pale locks and brought them to my nose. “Mountain breeze… No, baby. You don’t stink. At fucking all.” Her little whimper was the only thing that helped me regain my control. “Go on. Shower’s stocked. Ain’t got no girly shit in there, but there’s soap and shampoo. Got a couple new toothbrushes still in the pack if you need ’em. Razor, too. Help yourself. I’ll be back for you in a couple hours. Get some rest if you need it.” I pulled her into my arms once more. “Data says there’s a late summer storm comin’. Need to help the brothers make sure everything’s closed up and locked down. Feel free to explore the compound if you want to. No one will let you go any place you ain’t supposed to be, but they’ll guide you gently. If you want to wait, I’ll take you around when I get back and we’ll explore together. Up to you.” She nodded but didn’t move toward the bathroom. Instead, she just looked up at me, that adorable, confused look on her face. I leaned in and kissed her gently once more. “Go on now. You’ll feel better once you let some hot water relax your muscles.”

With another little nod, she finally did as I told her and headed for the bathroom. As I watched her go, I couldn’t help but feel like she was just as confused as I was about our attraction. Because there was no doubt she felt it too. I also knew she was my future. I probably didn’t deserve her, and I knew she could do better, but it didn’t matter. I was keeping her.

Chloe

What just happened? Had Deadeye actually kissed me? More importantly, had I actually… freaking loved it? I had never even imagined a kiss could be that good. That all-consuming. If he’d backed me to the bed, I’d have gone willingly. I’d have taken everything he had to give and rode out the pleasure to the end and never looked back.
