Is it possible she’s my mate, like Magnus had hinted at when he told me about the cross-referencing program? I’d never understood the concept of a true mate but if there was such a thing, Jamie is probably the closest thing to one.

It was way too early to be thinking about a future with this woman I barely knew. Besides, I had to resolve the issue of the flag on her profile. And even with that out of the way, could she fully accept me for what I was?

I want to keep holding her but I needed to deal with the staff who dared to disobey my orders.

I ease my semi erect cock from her tight wet hole. Unable to help myself I peer between her legs and notice my semen ooze out of her. Her dark neither lips are swollen. I want to be back inside of me but will myself to roll off the bed.

I head to her bathing room and utilize her shower, missing her scent as I wash it away from me.

By the time I’ve cleaned myself and dressed, Jamie is still sleeping.

I pull the covers back and tuck her inside.

Her beauty calls to me, and makes me want to take care of her.

I’m then reminded of the meeting with my subordinates who dared to make her living situation uncomfortable. I planned on getting to the bottom of this and making those responsible pay for their insolence.

I take a seat behind my desk and stare wordlessly at servants lined in front of me, shoulder to shoulder.

I recognize none of these servants besides, Johra. The steward is new. And the though I recognize the two maids because of my introduction to them the night I brought Jamie back to my sector. I’m not familiar with the chef either, but his file states that he’s only worked in the fortress for the past three months. The steward was also new, he had recently replaced the long serving steward who had been began service back in my Uncle’s the previous Sector Leader’s time.

My gaze falls on Johra. “Speak.”

He steps forward with his hand over his heart and bows his head. “My Lord, as I explained to you earlier, due our emergency departure, I was unable to see the tasks carried out as you ordered. I passed along your instructions to the steward which is the proper protocol. Had I been present, I would have been diligent in seeing these tasks reached to fruition.”

I consider his words before saying, “Your excuse would be sufficient under most circumstances but as my personal attendant you have access to the technologies that would have made it possible for you to check in with the staff while we were away. You could have confirmed the status of my breeder through any number of sources. You’ve enjoyed certain privileges in this position, but perhaps I’ve been too lenient with you. You may be a superious, but you’re not above reproach.”

“I understand My Lord, I’ve failed you but I promise it won’t happen again.”

I pound my fist on the desk. “It’s shouldn’t have happed at all.”

He shakes in obvious fear. I can smell it through my pores.

“I’ll decide what to do with you later. Fall back in line.”

In truth Johra is a good assistant. He can usually anticipate my needs before I even know I need it. I have never had a problem with his following through until now.

I looked at the steward who should have been able to take care of the instructions I’d left for Johra. He’s been employed with the fortress for a little of the year and is the son of a low-ranking superious family in region 6. As far as I could tell he is competent in fulfilling his duties. Until now.

“Lawreynce, explain yourself.”

He raised his blond head with a slight smirk on his face. I never cared for his self-importance, or that arrogant smile plastered on his face whenever we spoke, but Braeden had told me it was protocol for a steward in a high-ranking official’s home to comport themselves in such a manner. I had taken my cousin’s word for it since he was the son of the former Sector Leader.

But now seeing the steward stare back me with that half grin and direct stare it’s almost as if he wishes to challenge me.

“My Lord, I am not sure what you mean. What would you like for me to explain?”

There it was again, that arrogance. It was the same look I’d experience growing up among the elite as the son of a discarded mistress.

I notice Johra shake his head at him as if warning him, but Lawreynce doesn’t seem to understand how close he is to being disemboweled and continues to speak as I remain silent.

“Lord Draken, I’m sure you have better things to do with your time then play word games with me and the other servants who would better serve by getting back to the jobs they’re paid to do.”
