I tilted my head slightly, putting my nose in his neck. My lips parted and I heard myself whimper. Immediately, sweat erupted over my skin and my body trembled in his arms.

“Don’t be afraid of me, Cotton.” His hoarse plea made me cling to him. I fisted my fingers in his shirt realizing in that moment, I desperately wanted Chase to be mine.

“In my experience, men never take an interest in me unless they mean to hurt me.” I looked up at him, needing to see his face, his eyes, when I asked my next question. “Do you want to hurt me, too?”

“Never!” His fierce whisper was vehement. The intensity in his eyes blazing down at me convinced me to believe him. If he’d wanted to hurt me, to take something I didn’t freely give, he’d have done it already.

I sighed contentedly. “I’m going to choose to believe you, Chase. I’m going to believe and trust you.” I looked up at him. “Please don’t hurt me.”

“Honey, no one in this whole Goddamned world will ever hurt you again. You get me? I’m claiming you in front of my club. Makin’ you my ol’ lady. In my world we’ll be as good as married. I know it’s sudden. You don’t know me. I don’t know you. But you’ll not only have my protection, but the full protection of my club and our sister club if it becomes necessary. It also means that, if something happens to me, you’ll have their continued protection. This is your home now, Cotton.” He straightened his shoulders, puffing out his chest. “I’m your man.”

I swallowed, nodding my assent. “Yes, Chase.” I breathed the words like a prayer.

Very slowly, Chase lowered his head to mine. My breathing quickened, my heart rate shot up. I wanted his kiss. For the first time in my life, I fucking wanted this kiss more than I wanted to breathe.

“Please,” I whimpered.

“Yes.” Chase gave me what I wanted. His lips touched mine, and I thought my whole body would go up in flames. This was bliss. Paradise. He was gentle, never taking when he could coax.

When I relaxed completely against him, Chase lapped at my lips, urging me to part them to receive more of his kiss. I did without hesitation, soaking up the affection like a drug. Chase threaded his fingers through my hair, holding me steady and angling my head exactly where he wanted it. I welcomed the instruction. I wanted to know how to please him as much as he was pleasuring me. Just from his kiss!

“Chase,” I breathed against his lips. “Chase!”

“I know, honey. I’ve got you.” He reassured me between kisses and sensual flicks of his tongue. “I’ve got you.”

Long before I was ready, Chase lifted his head and pulled me back against him. He was so strong. I felt so safe in his arms. It was like a safe cocoon I never wanted to leave. Gently, he rocked me side to side, soothing me when I was so ragged and raw. I felt like I’d been battered on the inside. Enclosed in the warmth of his arms, I grew drowsy. Then, for the first time since way before I went to prison, I fell asleep in a strange place surrounded by strange people…

And slept like the fucking dead.

Chapter Five

Cotton

I awoke practically naked and in a strange bed, wrapped in a layer of warmth. I wasn’t in my cell. The bed was too comfortable for that. The smell not right at all. I inhaled deeply and moaned contentedly. Where I was at didn’t matter. I’d never been so comfortable in my life.

Then a man nuzzled my neck. At first, I stiffened. Then his lips kissed from my ear to my shoulder and back in slow, velvety soft caresses and I relaxed once again.

“Where am I?” I sounded sleepy but as content as I felt.

“You’re with me. In my bed.” The male surrounding me with his warm body settled me tighter against him, my back to his front. Between us, snuggled into my backside, his cock gave an interested jerk.

“Chase?”

“Well, yeah, baby. Who else?”

“No one, I hope.” I couldn’t help but smile.

“Mmm,” he grunted, settling back down.

“You sound as content as I feel. Do you often wake up with women in your bed?”

“Woman. Not plural. And no. You’re the first.”

I looked back at him. “You don’t really expect me to believe that, do you?”

“Not sayin’ I ain’t fucked my share of women, Cotton. But I don’t keep them in my bed, or even in my rooms. This is a first for me. One I intend to repeat with you every fuckin’ night for the rest of my life.”

“You don’t know me, you know. What if I snore? Or kick? What if you hate being around me?”

I felt him shrug, then he squeezed me tighter. God, I loved this feeling! “You do snore, but I don’t mind. You only kicked once. And if I hate being around you, I’ll distract you with sex until your attitude changes. If that doesn’t work, I’ll paddle your ass.”
