Before Foster had a chance to make something up, a new man entered the room. Despite all the noise and myriad conversations around us, the man’s commanding presence seemed to create a vacuum that sucked all the attention away from everyone else and onto him.
A screeching noise from someone shoving their chair back brought everyone’s attention to Jett Marian, who looked at the newcomer with a shocked expression.
“Holy fuck,” I breathed. “Who invited that guy?”
“Dunno,” Alex murmured. “Why?”
“Because that’s the man Jett left me for in Amsterdam.”
Alex turned to stare at me. “You’re joking? The guy from… what? Four years ago?”
I nodded, eyes fixed on the commanding guy whose decisive stride was eating up the ground between him and his target—Jett.
Jett stood up carefully from his pushed-back chair, darted a look around the room, licked his lips… and then bolted out of the room.
“What the fuck?” Tommy whispered.
“Holy shit,” Alex said.
“Someone’s in trou-ble,” Foster sang with a shit-eating grin.
As I watched the man stride angrily after Jett, I blew out a breath. Thank god the stranger had claimed Jett back in Amsterdam because I wouldn’t change a single thing about how my life had worked out. It made me wonder if maybe there was truly such a thing as fate.
Alex leaned into me and whispered in my ear, “How much longer do we have to stay before we can sneak out?”
I bounced my eyebrows at him. “Want me to pull the fire alarm?”
