“We’ll see,” I snort.

In this moment, I feel like I have my brother back. I look up to my older brother. It was killing me for him to be so pissed at me.

I would do it again if it meant him getting to come home to that sweet wee angel. Shauna is everything to him, like I knew she would be. I know he would have been devastated had I not kept her safe.

I can accept his anger. He had every right to it. As long as we’re good now, I can handle anything else.

“I love you, man,” I say as I clear my throat.

“Aye, I love ya too.”

CHAPTER 46

Fire & Rage

Deja

Eight months later …

“Here, you look like you could use a drink,” Logan says as he hands me a bottle of water.

“Thanks,” I say.

My mouth has been a little dry. I had planned to head over to get a drink, but Shannon stopped me to talk my ear off a few times. I don’t mind, I like her.

“Yer welcome. Have ya eaten?”

“Aye, thank ya for asking.”

He grunts and nods. I can see his thoughts racing across his face. He has something on his mind.

Our relationship has grown since he told Cole the truth about knowing where I had been all along. I get that he was protecting us both. Even when he pulled Cole away from me during my birthday party, he was looking out for me.

“Mom is having a ball with the girls. She’s been texting pictures of them all day. Cole won’t look at them because he doesn’t want to ruin the night for ya.”

“I know, I peeked once at the group chat and almost broke down. I’ve wanted to go home for hours now,” I whisper and snicker.

I’m missing my girls. This is the first time I’ve been away from them. I had the babies three months ago and Cole didn’t want to bring them to the baby shower.

Tasha is so adorable with her belly. LaSalle hasn’t stopped smiling. I’m happy for them. They have been through so much.

They’re a strong couple and are only becoming stronger. My friendship with Tasha has grown since the wedding as well. She and the ladies are my crew.

If Cole knew of the things I get up to with them, he would flip. Especially if he found out how long I trained while pregnant with the girls.

Logan chuckles. “Almost forgot he added ya to the group chat.”

“What’s really on yer mind, Logan?”

He opens his mouth to answer, but a commotion breaks out. We both stand to see what’s going on. As my eyes land on Tasha, I watch as LaSalle scoops her into his arms.

“Oh no, what’s happening?” I say.

“LaSalle has been concerned that she’s been in labor this whole time and trying to hide it,” Logan replies.

“What can we do?”

“I’m heading to the hospital with them. I’m sure that’s where he’s headed. Ya and Cole can ride with me if ye want.”

“Oh, I have a bottle of whiskey I’ve been saving for LaSalle. I meant to stop at the bar to pick it up. We’ll meet ya at the hospital, yeah?”

“Aye, see ye there.”

“This is going to be quick. You don’t have to come inside with me. I’ll be right back,” I say as Cole pulls up to the bar.

“If it will be quick, we can both be in and out. The place is closed. I’d feel better if I went with you.”

I purse my lips and give him a pointed look. Just as I get ready to tell him I can more than handle myself, his phone rings. He looks at the incoming call and curses.

“Fuck, I need to take this. Hold on.”

I roll my eyes because by the time he takes his call, I could be in and out. This is Cole. I should know better. He’s always my protector.

He’s been extra protective this week as Blair and Callum have been away for a little bit. I’ll admit, I do feel strange knowing they’re not lurking somewhere nearby. I’ve grown used to having them around at all times.

“Hey, man. What’s up?”

“I’m right behind you. This shouldn’t be said over an open line,” Czar says right as high beams flash behind us.

Cole sighs. “All right.”

He cuts the call and leans across the console to kiss me. “Go on in. I’ll be right out here talking to Czar. Get what ya came for and bring your ass right back out.”

“Aye, aye,” I say with a teasing smile.

He pulls a face that tells me he thinks I’m a smart-ass. His annoying smart-ass, whom he loves. I wink at him then turn to run across the street to the pub.

Brooklyn

Czar told me earlier that we needed to talk. No one was expecting Tasha to go into labor. We all took off to support LaSalle and Tasha.
