The half-face mask is tight to my hairline and ears but stops at my nose. It’s comfortable and to Kiersten’s liking.

That’s what I enjoy most about it. She blushes when she sees me in it, barely containing a seductive smile. It took a little time for her to recover, but my sweet submissive is flourishing and our new life is a dream I never dared to allow myself to have.

With my mask firmly in place, I brush the left lapel of my tuxedo, making sure everything’s perfect before taking in the scene.

On stage, a Dom in black suit pants and a white T-shirt that shows off his muscular physique is currently tending to the very reddish ass of his sub.

Her moans are so loud that even from across the room I can tell she’s in heaven. He rubs the lotion into her skin with gentle strokes, but I suspect that at least part of her bliss is from what looks like a vibrating U-shaped dildo currently in use.

An asymmetric grin pulls at my lips. It’s the sort of aftercare that I definitely approve of.

A soft hiss comes from my left, and I watch a very skimpily clad submissive on her knees and between the legs of her Dom. He guides her with his left hand as she hollows her cheeks on his cock while sipping a drink with the other. They’re clearly a couple that enjoys public displays. Other couples in the darkened room enjoy heavy petting. Some members are single and simply here to learn aftercare and paddle techniques. Madam Lynn certainly knows how to put on a show.

I watch the Dom and sub on stage finish their demonstration, all the while imagining Kiersten over my own lap. There’s still so much for the two of us to try together. I have to step aside when the staff comes out with a fresh course of meals for the assembled group. How the kitchen staff handles a full five-course meal that members can start at any ‘gap point’ between entertainment acts is truly impressive.

Tonight’s emcee, a man in a black suit but no mask to signify his employee status in the club, takes the mic. “Doms and subs, ladies and gentlemen, thank you. Your next course is coming. The next entertainment act will reconvene in twenty minutes.”

The emcee leaves, and I make my way over to the other side of the room where I find Roland and two other men on duty. The added men to security are . . . excessive, but they blend in. They’re officially ‘probationary staff’ for Club X under Joshua’s command, and they’re still learning the ropes.

“How are things?” I ask Roland, who’s looking rather more put together than usual. His suit is form-fitted, probably custom-tailored. He’s freshly shaven, and his hair is styled. It’s . . . quite a different look for the man who’s typically so casual. “Enjoying the new job?”

“I’m learning to deal with the distractions,” Roland admits. “But tonight’s my last night. I have another offer.”

My first reaction is shock, and judging by his expression, my reaction is written on my face. I compose myself.

“It’s a loss not to have you here,” I reply, and Roland shakes his head. “No?”

“I said I’m leaving the job, not that I’m leaving Club X,” Roland says quietly. “My new job pays well, and I’ve already talked to Joshua and Madam Lynn.”

“You’re joining Club X,” I correct myself, and he nods.

“Someone tempted me into it,” he comments, and his gaze shifts from me to the crowd.

“Who’s the girl?” I ask, putting the pieces together.

“That obvious?” Roland asks, and I smirk. I know the look of a man who’s got his heart somewhere beside his job. I see it in the mirror every morning. “Valerie. She’s part of the next entertainment act, but she’s unattached. The Dom and sub couple who are running the act asked her to join in because she’s . . . flexible.”

I chuckle and pat Roland on the shoulder. “Enjoy yourself.”

“I will, thank you,” Roland says. “By the way, will you be attending tomorrow night’s auction? I was given an invitation by Madam Lynn.”

“Will Valerie be going up for auction?” I ask, and Roland shakes his head. “No?”

“She told me that her collar can’t be bought with cash,” Roland says. “I’m interested in seeing if I have what it takes to earn it instead.”

I smirk at her comment. I imagine Roland is going to have his hands full.

“Good. Best of luck,” I reply and leave him to his business and me to mine.

Going up the spiral staircase behind Roland, I climb the steps to Madam Lynn’s office, taking out my copy of the key that only she and I have. Slipping it into the lock, I turn the knob and step inside, locking the door behind me.
