Cian’s hand finds mine. “That’s how I felt this morning.”

A thought occurs to me. “So you got the power to do cool stuff with plants, and Beck can make it rain.”

“Beck can bring the power of a storm to our aid, and don’t discount what I can do,” Cian warns. “I can trap an army in the vines and grass I can pull from the ground beneath us.”

“I get that,” I say with a frown on my face. “What I don’t get is how this helps me. You two get superpowers, and I get what?”

Cian smiles broadly. “You have a power, Meggie. You have a magical pussy. It was sleeping with you together that brought us into our power. That vagina of yours is pure gold, lover.”

I give Cian a playful shove and roll my eyes while he and his brother have a good laugh.

“Don’t go expecting to use it on anyone else,” Beck says as though the thought suddenly occurred to him. “That only works on the two of us.”

I walk up to him and give him a saucy smile. “Yes, Beck, I was planning on opening up shop. I was going to hang a sign on the cottage door and charge for it.”

Beck’s eyes narrow. He exchanges a glance with his brother. “This is that sarcasm thing she warned me about, right?”

Cian leans in for a kiss. It’s swift and sweet. “That it is, brother. Our Meg is very good at sarcasm. I don’t think we have to worry about her with other men. Now that you’ve let yourself off the leash, I suspect you’ll be between her legs three times a day. Try to remember I need her, too.”

Beck steals a kiss as well, though his is neither quick nor sweet. His tongue plunders like the pirate he is. When he lets me go, I hold on to his arm to steady myself. “I promise nothing. And you seriously underestimate me if you think it’s only going to be three times a day.”

The downside to having two husbands suddenly becomes very obvious. “Let’s talk about this.”

Whatever else I have to say is lost as two of the villagers come riding up to the cottage. They ride swiftly, each man leaning forward in the saddle with great determination. The very air around us seems to become tense. Beck reaches for the sword on his back. It’s in his hand as we make our way to the cottage.

“Your Highnesses,” one of the young men calls out. Both of the men dismount and make courtly bows.

“Niall, Eiric,” Cian greets the men. “What’s happened?”

“’Tis the miller’s daughter,” the one I think is Niall says. His eyes shine with unshed tears.

“Bri?” I ask, feeling my stomach clench. She’s a sweet girl of barely sixteen years. I spent an afternoon with the girl and her parents. What happened to her?

“Yes, ma’am,” Eiric confirms. “There’s been an accident. Her father begs Your Highnesses to come and figure out what has happened to his daughter.”

“How bad is it?” Beck asks the men.

“’Tis bad, Your Highness,” Niall replies. “Very bad. She’s dead, and I’ll be honest, I am not sure this was an accident. The miller needs the wise counsel of his kings.”

Cian and Beck share a look between them.

“One of us should go and one should stay here with Meg until we determine if it’s safe,” Beck says.

“The women have gathered at the miller’s house,” Eiric offers. “Bri’s mother is obviously distraught. The queen would be very welcome there.”

“Assign a guard to the house,” Cian orders.

“At least three,” Beck adds.

Beck turns to me, but I know my duty. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll get dressed and go to Bri’s mother. Niall can take me. You and Ci go and find out what’s going on.”

Beck sighs and leans down for a kiss. “Stay safe, wife.”

I hold Beck’s hand as I reach up to kiss Cian. It feels so right when the three of us are physically connected. “You two do the same. Come and get me when you’re done.”

Beck whistles, and Sweeney appears from the fields where he tends to run free during the day. As my husbands follow Eiric, I race into the cottage after promising Niall I’ll be swift.

I quickly change into soft brown trousers and a linen shirt. I shove my feet into boots and lace up the black vest that completes the outfit. I have a more formal dress, but I want to be prepared to work if I need to.

I grab my satchel and drape it across my shoulder so it hangs over my torso and rests against the opposite hip. I have the small medicinal kit Flanna has taught me to use. Just as I’m going back out the door, the vampire computer catches my eye. I pick it up and slip it into the satchel. It can’t hurt. If nothing else, it plays movies from the Vampire plane. Perhaps a movie will entertain the children and keep their minds off the tragedy.
