Johnston sighed and pushed back from Aaliyah. She slipped down from his desk, leaned up on her tiptoes, kissed his cheek, then slipped past me into the hall. “Good to see you home, Blayke. Where’s Noah?” she asked.

“Upstairs showering,” I answered. “Think you can take her something to eat and drink? She’s gotta be starving, but she’s in a… mood.”

Aaliyah laughed, patted my shoulder, then headed up the hall. “Yeah, I’ll get her something.”

Johnston crossed his arms over his chest and arched a brow at me. “What is it?” he demanded. “You literally pulled in the lot not even five fucking minutes ago, and you’re already bothering me.”

I pressed my hand over my heart and pretended to swoon. “Oh, look at you being all sweet to me,” I teased. He rolled his eyes. I dropped my hand back to my side. “I wanted to talk to you about Noah.”

He sighed. “Fucking knew it,” he muttered. “You’re not letting this go, are you?”

I shook my head. “She’s a damn good fucking asset to this club, Johnston, and I’m not saying that just because she’s my old lady. She can hold her own, she’s not afraid to get her hands bloody, and when things go sideways, she’s damn good at improvising. She’s fucking incredible, and if you’d give her a chance, you’d see that, too.” He opened his mouth to speak, but I continued before he could. “Brother, I’d probably be fucking dead right now if not for her.” And that was the honest fucking truth.

He scrubbed his hand down his face. “Let’s call a vote. If the majority says yes on patching her in, then she gets a patch.”

I nodded once. “That’s all I’m asking for—a fair chance. She deserves that.”

He grunted and waved me off. “Meet me in the chapel.”

Turning on my heel, I headed for the chapel. When Lawson and Dom saw me walk in, they headed my way as well, with Lawson shouting, “Church!” as loud as he could. Within five minutes, we were all seated with the chapel doors closed. Johnston dropped into his chair and cleared his throat. “I’ve already filled the rest of you in on what went down in Mexico. We’re sitting here for a vote on patching Noah in. To exclude biases, I want to hear from Geek,” he said.

I rolled my eyes. To excuse biases. Asshole.

“Me?” Geek asked, looking confused. “Why? Blayke worked with her the most.”

“Because she’s Blayke’s old lady, and he’ll give her anything she fucking wants,” Johnston retorted. I gave Johnston both of my middle fingers, making Trigger and Drew snort a laugh. “Tell me what you think of Noah.”

“Oh, well, she’s pretty great,” Geek said, sitting up straighter. “Smart. Got a good head on her shoulders. Quick to think on her feet. She’s not afraid of high-stress situations, and dropping bodies isn’t difficult for her. And she protected everyone fiercely… like a mama bear.”

I cackled, which just made Johnston shoot me an annoyed look. I waved my hand, a sign for Geek to continue and ignore me. “Honestly, not patching her in would be foolish, in my opinion.”

Johnston’s sigh was heavy and weighted. He knew he wasn’t getting out of this. Noah was about to be a change for the SWMC, whether he liked it or not. “All in favor of patching Noah in?” Johnston called.

Everyone’s hands raised at the table. Johnston frowned, grunted, and banged his gavel on the table before looking at me. “Bring her down. She’s getting a patch on her cut.”

The door swung open, and Aaliyah and Noah both just about fell into the room. Noah already had her cut off and was holding it out to Johnston. Johnston gritted his teeth, but I was laughing. Just like my woman to do whatever the fuck she pleased. Add Aaliyah into the mix? Johnston and I were about to have our hands full of trouble.

Guessed it was a good thing I liked my woman’s particular brand of trouble.

“Already here,” she said.

He grunted in annoyance and took the cut from her. “A new cut will be here for you before the end of the week. As much as it pains me to say this, welcome to the family, Noah.”

She shot him a sickly sweet smile that was full of sarcasm and contempt for him, but I knew with enough time, they’d work out their kinks. “We’ll see if it’s a welcome one,” she replied.

Standing, I rounded the table and pulled her to me, giving her a quick, chaste kiss. Then, I hummed and nosed along her hairline. “You smell like me.”

She patted my chest. “Put the caveman instincts away, Blayke. They don’t suit you.”

I grinned down at her. “Wanna find out?”

She rolled her eyes and pushed me away. “No. What I want to find out is if there’s a decent diner around here that serves breakfast all day.”
