Nic leans into me again, his big hand curling around my waist and pulling me in against his strong, ripped body. My hand instinctively falls against his chest. “The Roni I remember used to love playing games.”

I raise my chin. “The Roni you remember doesn’t exist anymore. I’ve changed. I’m not the pathetic girl who would have followed you to the ends of the earth. She’s gone.”

He shakes his head, the corner of his lips lifting into a devastatingly sexy smirk as though he’s actually enjoying this bullshit. “No, baby. That Roni is still in there. I can feel her dying to break free.”

I narrow my gaze, and just as I’m about to tell him to get fucked, the sound of a car screeching through the warehouse has his back stiffening and his eyes flicking to the door. He releases me in seconds. “Stay here,” he orders, his tone low and terrifying, filled with authority.

He walks through the small bunker, stopping by a cupboard and pulling out a gun. I watch him with wide eyes, cowering in the bunker as he reaches the door. He peeks out, and with a sigh of relief, pushes through to the dark warehouse.

“Where the fuck have you bastards been?” he calls.

Shit. He knows these guys.

The door slams shut behind him, but my curiosity has me moving through the bunker. I walk up the concrete steps to the door and reach for the handle before taking a shaky breath. I can hear their muffled conversation, but hearing isn’t as good as seeing, especially when I have absolutely no idea what the fuck is going on.

I gently twist the handle, willing the door to open without making a sound. It peels back, and I have to shuffle around, but I keep it closed enough not to draw attention to myself. I watch as Nic makes his way over to a car that looks as though it belongs in places like Bellevue Springs rather than this shithole.

Three guys pour out of the vehicle, and immediately it’s obvious it doesn’t belong to them. They're Widows, and judging by the fact that they knew exactly where to find Nic, they’re important. I wonder if these are the three friends Ocean had told me about; Kairo, Sebastian, and Elijah.

I’ve done my best to keep away from the Widows and Wolves, but news of Kairo taking over while Nic was incarcerated spread far and wide. I just wish I could put a face to the name. I’ve never met them before, and right now, I don’t know if that’s a good or bad thing. Ocean speaks about them as though they’re the best guys in the world, but looking at them now, they look like they just stepped straight out of hell. These aren’t the kind of guys who should be fucked with.

The three men fall around Nic, pulling him into a warm hug, clapping him on the back, and congratulating him for getting this far. They talk and laugh, completely oblivious to the fact that he brought home a stray.

It only takes a few minutes for the boys to get past their bullshit and get serious. They start taking Nic around the warehouse, showing him where they’ve stored everything that he’ll need to survive in here. They take him through a security system that’s complete with surveillance, making it that much harder for me to escape. But my interest is piqued when the taller guy in the center looks Nic dead in the eyes and says, “Alright, your weapons are over here.”

I watch with a keen eye as they cut across the warehouse, but I don’t miss the way Nic’s gaze sweeps back to the door and finds me watching. His eyes narrow, and I know he’s silently telling me to mind my own damn business, but like hell that will be happening. If there are weapons in this place, then I want to know exactly how to get my hands on them.

Not wanting to give me away, Nic focuses back on his friends, and I gape in horror as a large metal door is pulled open, revealing more weapons than I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s as though these guys had raided the evidence locker of the Breakers Flats police department. There’s enough shit in here to sink the whole fucking country which makes it clear that the Widows haven't just been surviving while Nic was gone, but they’ve been thriving.

The Wolves would never be able to stand against weapons like that. I don't know what Christian and his men have been up to over the past few years, but I do know if he had any idea what kind of arsenal the Widows have hidden, it'd be a war.

There is no way in hell I want to stick around long enough to see how this plays out.
