Reaching between them, Niamh gripped his naked cock in hand and guided him inside her beneath the water. He released her breast to groan with desire as Niamh began to ride him.

“Kiyo-Chan,” she chanted over and over as her body built toward orgasm.

Her mate suddenly rose, holding her to him, his expression tight with raw need as he lifted them out of the pool. She knew his intention was to get to the bed but her little whimper of want always set him on fire. Suddenly, she found herself with her back to the floor as Kiyo fucked her with fiery need.

He gripped her thighs, lifting her arse so he could thrust into her at just the right angle.

Her eyes must have turned liquid gold because Kiyo released a wolfish growl of satisfaction as he picked up his pace.

Niamh’s orgasm exploded through her, her sobs of pleasure and tightening inner muscles causing Kiyo to yell out hoarsely as he released inside her.

He delighted in looking at where they joined as he pulled out, his jaw clenching with renewed desire as he witnessed his cum spill from her.

Niamh felt an ache of melancholic longing score across her chest. One that she quickly stifled for fear her mate suspected she was discontent.

“I better clean up.” She pushed off the floor, stopping to kiss him tenderly, before she strode into the bathroom to do just that.

Niamh stared at her reflection in the mirror, her cheeks flushed and dewy with sweat from their mating. It wasn’t that she was unhappy with their life. They led a meaningful, high-octane existence, and these past few days had been a well-deserved break.

Her visions were a part of her and Niamh wanted to use them for good. Kiyo would follow her anywhere, so they used her visions to stop bad things from happening to good people.

To have money to live, they also continued to do Kiyo’s old work as a mercenary. They took on jobs where they were compensated for finding people who’d committed crimes against others. But only people Niamh knew deserved justice meted out against them.

It was a busy, dangerous world they lived in. Kiyo would have quite happily hidden Niamh away somewhere she would always be protected. But they’d both go mad with boredom.

Especially when …

Niamh threw the thought from her mind.

She didn’t want Kiyo to sense her feelings.

When she stepped out of the bathroom, Kiyo stood in her path, his arms crossed over his broad, naked chest. He’d donned lightweight pants, but his feet were still bare. Niamh loved it when he wore his thick, silky hair down, but she also loved the way the beautiful angles of his face were highlighted when he wore it in a man bun like now.

“Talk to me, Komorebi.”

Unease shifted through her, and she gave him a mock confused smile. “You’re very serious.”

“Don’t.” The muscle in his jaw flexed, and she sensed his growing agitation.

And hurt.

“Kiyo-Chan—”

“You need to tell me why the last few times we’ve had sex, you’ve been … sad.” Pain blazed in his gaze.

Niamh hurried toward him, cupping his face in her palm. “It’s not what you think.”

“Then what is it?”

“I know it seems silly, but I guess we’ve just been so busy, I didn’t realize …”

Kiyo frowned. “Realize what?”

“Not until we visited Fionn and Rose.” She shrugged sadly. Fionn had always suspected Niamh was his descendant. Thus, he treated her like an older brother might and they’d become family for real. So, when they could, they visited Fionn and Rose in Ireland. When Saoirse was born, Niamh felt nothing but delight for Fionn and Rose, knowing his history. But their last visit to meet baby Ardal for the first time had brought something crashing home to Niamh. Then Thea and Conall to see little Brodie, Mhairi … and Nee.

“We’ll never have our own children.” She tried to hide her sadness and failing. It wasn’t in their destiny. As fae and werewolf, they were unable to procreate.

Kiyo’s expression tightened with understanding and his hands fell to her hips. He squeezed them, his voice hoarse. “I’m sorry, Komorebi.”

“We have a beautiful life,” she hurried to reassure him. “I know that. We have a meaningful, stunning life, and I never fail to feel lucky that you are mine and I am yours.”

“I know.” He pulled her close, pressing a kiss to her temple. “I know that.”

“I just didn’t realize … and I …”

“You’re allowed to grieve it, Niamh. We both are.”

“Do you?” She pulled back to study his face. “Do you grieve it?”

He nodded. “After I was turned, I didn’t imagine ever wanting children. But since you, yeah, I’ve imagined what it would be like to have kids with you. And I hate that I can’t give you that.”

“It’s not your fault. It’s no one’s fault.” She smiled softly. “In a way, knowing you feel the same actually makes me feel better.”
