The drummer scowled. “A dick?”

“Yes, a dick.”

“I’m not the one the fans care about. It’s not me and Phil plastered across fan sites or the media. It’s you and Jamal. It’s always the best-looking ones who get all the attention.”

“Do you hear yourself?” Elijah sighed. Maybe a break from the band was a good thing after all. “Are you ever without men and women throwing themselves on your cock?”

Adam frowned. “No.”

“As a virile, bisexual man, do you not enjoy the sexual benefits of being the drummer in a famous rock band?”

Rolling his eyes, Adam sighed. “I get your point.”

“Then stop complaining and worrying about what everyone else is doing, and just enjoy yourself.”

“My point is that no one recognizes me unless I’m with one of you.”

“I’m with you right now. Jesus, you’re giving me a migraine.” He sent out another calming wave of energy toward Adam.

“You’re right.” Adam gave him an apologetic, somewhat loopy smile. “I’m being a total prick. Let’s just enjoy the rest of the night. I’ll apologize to the boys in the morning.”

Thank God for that.

Minutes later, the driver pulled up to the club Adam had picked. A long line to get in stretched down the block. One of their security team spoke quietly to the doorman as the waiting clubbers started to recognize him and Adam. Whispered excitement lit the night air, but thankfully their security ushered them inside. The doormen must have communicated to the management because a tall, gorgeous redhead appeared before them and introduced herself as the manager.

“There is a dance club in the basement,” she said in perfect English as she sashayed ahead of them, leading the two men across the bar in her tight black dress. “For now, allow me to offer this complimentary VIP area for your use only.” She stopped at a raised, roped-off area that held two large, blue velvet banquettes, a space big enough for them to host a small party.

“And will you be joining us?” Adam flirted with the gorgeous manager.

She lifted her left hand to smooth back an imaginary hair from her face. A large diamond glinted on her ring finger. “I’m afraid not.”

“Too bad.” He winked at her. “Dom Pérignon for the table, then.”

“A pint of ale for me,” Elijah interjected. “Something local.”

The redhead nodded. “Of course.” She gestured across the room and another beautiful young woman, this one a brunette, strode toward them. She wore a similar tight black dress and killer stiletto heels. “The VIP area comes with your own personal server. Gentlemen, this is Leoni, and she will be looking after you this evening.”

Leoni beamed at them, her dark gaze locking on Elijah, hot with intent.

He grinned as he dragged his eyes down her supple body. If she was offering, he was taking.

“Lucky bastard,” Adam muttered at his side.

Ignoring him, Elijah settled down on the plush banquette and repeated his order to Leoni. Their security hovered on the edges of the VIP area, always alert. And drawing attention from the club goers as the room filled.

“I think I might check out the dance club,” Adam said loudly to be heard over the music. Elijah didn’t need him to raise his voice. He’d realized at a very young age he had better hearing than the average person.

But before Adam could leave, a group of three women and a young man appeared before the ropes. “We’re huge fans!” a blond yelled. “We’d love to buy you a drink!”

Elijah’s bandmate welcomed the group onto the banquette, and Elijah turned on the charm for the blond who practically shoved her way past Adam to get to him. He tried not to laugh and gave her his entire attention. It cost him nothing, and it made her night.

A few pints of ale for him later, and the blond grew a little touchy-feely, her hand smoothing over his thigh as they chatted. He frowned, wondering how to react. He’d already decided he was leaving with Leoni tonight. He didn’t want to get the little blond’s hopes up.

Suddenly, the hair on the back of Elijah’s nape rose, and shivers cascaded down his spine. A strange heat pooled in his groin, and instinct had him lifting his gaze out toward the club.

Like he was a magnet and she his opposite piece, Elijah’s focus zeroed in on a beautiful woman sitting at the bar. The pendant lights made her face completely visible in the otherwise moodily lit club.

His heart thumped in his chest.

Fuck, she was stunning.

And she was watching him.

As if his feet had a mind of their own, Elijah was abruptly moving, ignoring the protests from his companions as he stepped over the rope with ease and strode across the room to the bar. A few hands touched him. People did that. It was strange. Like he was a god or something. Unnerving.
