She really could sense his emotions.

What the hell was that?

Alarmed beyond measure, her fists tightened at her sides.

Elijah suddenly looked over his shoulder at her, eyes narrowed. “What? What is it? Do you hear something?”

Confused, she frowned. “What do you mean?”

“I …” He stood now, hands falling to his sides. “I thought I felt … you … panic or fear or something. I don’t even know what I’m saying.”

Could he feel her emotions too?

What. The. Actual. Fuck?

Echo shrugged off the worry this knowledge elicited. They had no time for it. “Are you ready?”

The muscle in his jaw ticked. “I have no choice, do I?”

“Not really.”

“So my parents first, and then your sister? Is she a vampire too? Where is she?”

“Canada. And ask questions later.” She grabbed his arm, pulling him away from Sajid’s and Jack’s bodies and the well of guilt inside her. “We need to get to London, pronto.”

One of the things Elijah had learned to do ages ago with his fae gifts—

Fuck, fae gifts.

Would that ever stop being weird?

He was fae.

Fae.

A fucking fairy.

It was ludicrous.

But it was true.

Shaking his head, Elijah followed Echo down the boarding bridge. He had to stop going around in circles and just accept it. He was fae, and he was using his fae gifts to cast an illusion that allowed him to walk in public without recognition.

“And you’ve done this a lot since becoming famous?” Echo had asked when he’d explained why his fame wasn’t an issue for remaining circumspect.

He answered in the affirmative. Whenever he was in public solo, he’d use it so he could go about his business without being bothered. People’s gazes just passed over him, as if he was barely there.

As they boarded and Echo took her seat, Elijah reluctantly sat beside her. His reluctance wasn’t because they were in economy and Elijah hadn’t flown economy since before he was famous. It was because he still didn’t trust the vampire. And he’d witnessed her kill two of her own men without even blinking.

Watching Echo rip the hearts out of the wolves’ chests was the goriest fucking thing he’d ever seen in his life, and he was trying not to think about it.

He was desperate to get to his parents. They’d already wasted two hours stealing a car and crossing the border into the Netherlands. Echo had said using an airport in Belgium was suicide as those airports were being watched. So they were using this small airport in a place called Limburg. The only issue was its last red-eye flight was only going to Barcelona.

Which, according to Echo, was for the best because The Garm and the Blackwoods wouldn’t expect it and wouldn’t be watching either of those airports. From Barcelona, they would fly into Heathrow.

“Once we land in Barcelona, we’ll need to move fast because our flight to London leaves not long after our arrival,” Echo informed him.

Elijah frowned. They’d fled Antwerp around nine o’clock, and it was now just past eleven. “We’ll arrive in Barcelona after one in the morning. There are no flights at that time.”

Echo glanced around them to make sure no one was listening and then leaned into him. His eyes, with a mind of their own, dipped to her mouth as she spoke. “I have contacts William doesn’t know about. One of them is giving me the use of their private plane. That involves pre-security checks and you’ll need to use your mind-warping to get us out of that. We’ll land on the edges of Heathrow. We can’t be seen in the airport. The Garm will be running face recognition on their system since they know your parents are in London.”

“You’ve thought of everything.”

“I’ve been planning for days. It came at a pretty cost too.”

“Won’t William track your spending?”

She seemed surprised that he’d thought of that. The vampire really did think he was just a pretty boy who sang, didn’t she? “I have secret accounts. Perhaps in the back of my mind, I always knew what William really was and suspected this day would come.”

He frowned, growing ever curiouser about how William had betrayed his daughter. But Elijah had a more important question to ask first. “If we arrive in London on time, it will be closing in on four in the morning.”

“That’s correct.”

“The sun rises at around five in London at this time of year.”

“I’m aware.”

“Well, my parents’ house is over an hour from the airport.” He leaned into her, ignoring her attractive scent. “Doesn’t that sound problematic to you?”

“Don’t condescend to me.” Her eyes flashed silver. “Believe me, I know without looking at a clock when the sun rises and sets.” They were so close now, their noses almost touched. “I’ll have to travel in the trunk of the car.”

“So I’ll need to steal another vehicle, then?”

“Got a problem with that?” Echo arched a perfect eyebrow. “Are you unable to sacrifice your morals to save your parents?”
