Through my haze, I manage to get up and haul Bron with me, her slight weight nothing against my strength. She clutches at me, her eyes fevered with desire. She pushes at my shirt, trying to get her hands on my skin. I can’t help it. I need her so badly. She’s the fever in my blood now. I kiss her, my tongue plunging deep.
I need to get her away from here. I have to protect her, and I can’t take her here. It’s too open. I don’t want eyes on us. This is our bonding time.
But if I don’t get inside her soon, I might burn down the village around me. Already I can feel the need to unleash my power. I’ll lose control if I don’t satisfy Bron’s desire.
Lach is at my side as I begin to move toward the small house Gillian pointed to. The door opens, and a woman gestures to a back room. The house is a storefront. Candles and herbs cover the shelves. The man named Reymon points us through to narrow stairs.
“Our bedroom is small, but the bed is comfortable. ’Tis an honor to host your first night, Your Highnesses.” Reymon nods. “We’ve hoped for this for so long. The Unseelie will finally come.”
I don’t want to think about the man’s enigmatic words. I want to take off my wife’s clothes and be with her finally. She mewls and twitches in my arms. Lach goes up the stairs first, checking the bedroom and finally turning.
“Leave us, sister.” Lach nods toward Gillian, who stands in the doorway.
Gillian takes a deep breath as I set Bron on the bed.
“Take her. Make her yours,” Gillian says. “Bond fully with her so there can be no question from the Seelies that she belongs to our clan. Impregnate her if you can. And do it quickly. We need to be gone from this plane by the morning. I’m going to go and clean up the mess the warrior half left. And brothers, it is good to see you and to see just how powerful you’ve become. When the time is right and we unite the tribes, you will be the true Kings of the Fae. I honor you, brothers, and the woman who will bring the Unseelie into ultimate power.”
Gillian turns and walks out, the door closing behind her.
I look down at my wife, the woman who will be my queen.
“Kiss me.” Her words are fevered, her eyes desperate. Her body tightens as though the pain forces her to clench her every muscle. “Please. Please.”
I can’t resist her. Don’t want to. Want to inhale her, to taste her, to take her into my body and to put myself in hers. I need to merge with her. The world around fades away until all I can see and taste and touch and feel is her.
I give in to the fever.
Chapter Seventeen
Bronwyn
I think I died and went to the Summerlands. They’re here, my Dark Ones. Shim and Lach. I called to them as the fire started and when I opened my eyes again, they were here. Surely this is my reward. To be with the men from my dreams.
And then the pains strike again.
I’m still here in Tuathanas. I’m still dying. I can hear Gillian saying something that I know should disturb me. Something about crowns and thrones and playing my part. The words burn into my brain, but I can’t filter them now. My gut seizes. I cry. That’s the worst. I can’t stop crying.
Am I dreaming again? I hear someone asking for a kiss. Pleading and begging for a kiss.
“Hush, a chumann.” A deep voice forces me from my panic. I open my eyes, my pussy still burning, and see him staring down. It’s Shim, but not as I dreamed him. This Shim has eyes as deep as the sky just before night swallows up the day. There’s no white to his eyes, merely a deep and never-ending midnight. And fangs. They’re small, the size of a royal vampire’s, and ever so slightly curved. “I know what you need. You feel the fever, too.”
Yes, fever. I feel it. It’s low in my belly, in my pussy and my breasts. But it’s also in my head. Something else is happening. I can feel my Dark Ones. They need, too. They need to possess me, to be one with me.
“I want to kiss her. You’ve had your turn.” Another voice calls to me. I turn and see my other. Lach. I named him Lach. My heart seizes. Lach’s face is the same as his brother’s except for the scars. It doesn’t mar his beauty, but it does speak of a pain he suffered. I reach up and touch him. He tries to turn away, but I hold him fast, placing both my hands on his skin. One side is so smooth, perfect, but the other has three long scars forming hills and valleys, a road map of the pain he suffered. Burns. Lach was burned.
