I press in and open my senses, sharing the feeling with Bron. I wanted her to know how sweet she is, how good it feels to be deep inside her so she understands that I will protect her with my life, my soul, my very being.

Bronwyn’s eyes widen and she tightens around me. “Goddess, it feels so good.”

I pull out and fuck my way back in, every inch a revelation of pure pleasure.

Lach’s eyes are full and dark in his head. His fangs gleam in the moonlight. Our eyes meet, the warrior half and the intellectual, both with one thought. This woman is our world.

I dive deep, listening to Bron’s cries, finding that one sweet spot in her body that sends her flying. Her womb tightens. Gods, I can feel her come and it makes my cock explode. I pound into her, over and over. I never want to stop. Her pussy spasms around me, her whole body shaking.

Lach groans and strikes, his fangs penetrating her neck. My brother’s first blood triggers another rush of pleasure—Lach’s from that life-giving blood flowing into his body and Bron’s from the delicious feeling of fangs sliding deep and drawing on her vein.

I give up. I let the wave take me, riding it with my other half and my woman.

When Lach releases the vein, I let myself drop onto Bronwyn’s soft body. Her heat envelopes me. Her softness calls to me.

I fall asleep to the steady beat of her heart.

Chapter Twenty-Nine

Bronwyn

I creep out of bed after I’m sure Lachlan and Shim are fast asleep. Sleep. It’s a state I would appreciate, but it will not come for me. I lay there for what felt like hours, my body perfectly sated, but my mind racing.

It was right there, the need to fully bond. I understand the process. It’s a bit like a marriage of convenience versus one of true, pure love. I can do what I need to do without the deepest of bonds. I can still bridge the twins, giving them access to both halves of their soul. I can still feel them both and share sensations, but I won’t know them, not in the deepest, most intimate sense.

I pick up Lach’s shirt and draw it overhead. It hangs past my knees, covering me efficiently. I stare down at them. Shim’s arm is still outstretched as though reaching for me. Lach is on his back, his head to one side as though he needs to hide his scars even as he sleeps.

What caused those scars? The scarring went far beyond the physical. Those scars go down to his soul. He will tell me if I ask, but if we bond, I’ll feel his pain, perhaps know how to heal it.

I step away. Do I even want that? Goddess, I don’t know anything. My whole world was turned upside down again as surely as it was thirteen years before. Torin killed my parents, but finding out Lach and Shim are real has as big an effect. My world changed, and I’m forced to decide the way my life is going to go.

I walk out to the river, cool grass beneath my feet. The night air holds a slight chill, but I welcome it after the heat of the bed. I stop at the river’s edge, not daring to go much further. I won’t run again, but I intend to take a stand. I can’t run away and hide from this war.

The river runs past my feet, a bubbling swell of water that keeps going until it reaches the sea. The river is in constant motion, but I feel caught. I could jump in and bond and allow Lach and Shim to carry me off or I can stay stubbornly in place like a log caught in the middle of the river. It doesn’t move, simply allows the water to strip off the bark and pulp until nothing is left.

“Bron?”

I close my eyes briefly, immediately recognizing the voice. It’s the same voice I heard every day for the last thirteen years. It’s a voice that cajoled and softened the world around me, but now all I hear that voice saying is how I am to be used.

“What do you need, Gillian?”

There’s a huff. It’s a laugh completely devoid of humor. “I need to take back about three minutes of my life.”

“Only three?”

Gillian moves to stand next to me. “I wouldn’t take back a second of our time together. I wish we’d been able to flee the plane. I truly do, but I wouldn’t have left without you. Never.”

That’s brutally obvious. “Yes, well, you did seek me out with a plan in mind, didn’t you?”

“Don’t we all have plans? We all have hopes and ambitions. It doesn’t make us terrible. I wanted to find the woman who belonged to my brothers. I wanted to unite our tribes,” Gillian explains.
