“I know he’s a douchebag who can’t run a company.” Why are they worried about someone like Chalen Palgrave? We face much bigger problems.
“He’s a douchebag who’s trying to kill you, your wife, and your cousins. He’s the man who hired me.”
Then he will be the man I kill. “Tell me everything.”
I follow Roan and Julian into Julian’s private office.
Chapter Twenty-Seven
Kaja
The lovely blonde woman passes me another drink.
“I don’t know if I should.” I giggle just a bit. The drink is doing strange things to my head. I know I really shouldn’t drink more. I am becoming intoxicated. Yes. That is the word I am becoming. Drunk. Funny feeling. Still, when the glass is pushed in front of me, I lean forward and take another sip.
“Oh, live a little,” my new friend says. “Come on. It’s only two. Julian doesn’t allow anyone more than two drinks here. Although, we might be able to get the bartender to sneak us one more.”
I focus on the bartender. He is an attractive young vampire with dark hair and a slender body. Jeremy. He introduced himself as Jeremy. Well, Jeremy might be attractive, but he has nothing on my Dante. My Dante is the most beautiful man in the world. He is kind and gives a very good spanking. He has all the best sex toys.
I giggle again. I am losing it. “I don’t think I can handle another one, Ashton.”
“It’s Amanda, sweetie,” the woman says. “And I’m surprised you’ve made it this long. You have some kind of crazy metabolism.”
I am unsure what the pretty blonde is talking about, but she seems so nice. Everyone is being nice to me here. “I will have to tell the machine at home that I like these drinks. And when it is rude to me from now on, I will make it pay.”
Amanda regards me. “You should. Those machines can really get you. Today, my mirror told me my hair didn’t look good. Bastard. Bad programming. It’s supposed to be supportive. It’s supposed to tell me I look good.”
“You do look nice,” I offer. In the few weeks I have been on this plane, I noticed that women like to be told they look pretty. I like it myself. “My mate tells me I look nice.”
Amanda smiles, but it seems a bland thing. “Does he? He never really noticed with me.”
“He tells me often, though mostly when I am naked. He likes me to be naked. A lot. He gave me the option of coming to this place naked. I did not think it was a good idea. You vampires seem extremely concerned with clothing. Alana is always trying to buy me more. And shoes. I only have two feet.”
Something Amanda said skitters at the back of my brain. What did she say?
Oh, my mind is foggy. It felt good just a minute before, but now there is a queasy feeling in my stomach.
“I thought she had four.” Jeremy, the bartender, is staring at me. He does not look so nice now. There is menace in his gaze. “I saw the press coverage of the freak.”
“Shanimal,” Amanda says with a frown. “She’s a shanimal, not a freak.”
I hate that word. The room is starting to spin. “I am not a shanimal. I am Kaja. I am Dante’s.”
He said it. I am his. I am not going to let these vampires make fun of me. I am the consort of Dante Dellacourt, and more than that, I am a good person. I am worth respect, with or without my fur.
“Yeah, I know that’s what he told you.” Amanda sits forward. “You’re different than I thought you would be. I’m actually sorry this is happening to you, but you should know that I’m Dante’s mistress.”
I feel a growl deep in my throat, but I can’t force it out. “You are not.”
She pulls out one of the tablets that vampires seem to always have on their persons. “I’m sorry, but this is who your husband really is.”
A video starts. There is my Dante and this woman. He lies back and allows her to service him. His cock gradually becomes long and thick. He finally orders her to climb on top of him.
“He never lets me do that,” I grumble. “I told him it would be fun.”
Amanda’s mouth drops open in apparent surprise.
“This was before we were married. I can see the date stamp. I know when we were married.” And beyond that, it is so obvious that Dante is not engaged in the sex. Oh, Amanda is attractive, but he did not even tie her up. He cannot be too involved. This is how Dante has sex when he is not in love.
Dante loves me. Some silly video is not going to make me question that. I feel it in my bones.
