He's got an open beer bottle on the bar, and he takes a drag from it before continuing. "Now I know that sounds like a lot of bullshit for little reward but your men have a duty to you. They will always protect you. They'll always belong to you. And if you play your cards right, they'll keep your fire burning strong, over and under the sheets. Always responsible, always there for you and always ready to ride on your behalf. My question for you, Sandra, is if this is what you want. Honestly, I think you can do better."
I don’t believe it for an instant. Eagle-eye talks a tough game, but when it comes to his boys, and to Jupiter, or his kids, whether it's Faith or Damien, he's fiercely loyal. There isn’t a brother in this club that he doesn’t think is worthy of the Screaming Eagles.
So I nod. "I do. I want all of that, and I want it with Piston, Zero and Beast. I love them."
He snorts. "Your funeral, girl. In that case, Piston. Beast. Zero. All three of you, stand fucking straight when I'm talking to you."
Honestly, I feel like all of my guys are, but never mess with Eagle-eye when he's in a mood. That much I've learned.
"Here's the deal. Sandra's a beautiful girl. She's got a good head on her shoulders, and she's got a good family in her sister. She's got her own business and a plan. The point is, she doesn't fucking need you guys. That means that if you want to hold on to her, you need to impress the fuck outta her. Make her think that she can't go through life without you, even though everyone here knows that's a fucking lie. My question to you then, is whether you still want to take this on, knowing that you're only with her by her own grace. If you don't treat her right, if you don't have her screaming your names every night, you don't deserve someone like her. Are you still gonna try?"
Zero is the first. "Of course we will. We fucking love her. We're not letting her get away that easily."
Piston nods. "There's nothing we wouldn't do for her. Letting her go isn't a fucking option."
Beast looks between the two of them. "I'm in." When everyone laughs, he waits for it to peter out, then throws his arms out like he can't help it. "What? Piston and Zero already said it better than I ever will. So fuck yeah, I'm all in."
Eagle-eye looks back at me. "That good enough for you? Or should we make them grovel a little more?"
I can't help laughing. "No, that's fine. I'm willing to take their word for it. They've done a really good job so far, after all.
"Then, by the power vested in me as the club president, I—"
"Wait." Piston holds up a hand. "Got one more step." He whistles loud, then calls out, "Here, girl!"
Everyone looks towards the other end of the room, where Junkyard and Jupiter have been lying quietly together. Always together, these days.
"Come on, girl."
Junkyard pushes herself to her feet and comes trotting over, straight for me. Going into a crouch, I receive her with a hug, letting her lap at my face, giving me sloppy doggie kisses.
"Check the collar," Piston says.
I run my fingers along it, and in front I bump into rings? Three of them? Oh. Oooh! I slip the collar off so I can dislodge the rings on it, letting them drop into my palm. The rings look like they fit together somehow, like they're three layers of a single thing. I put Junkyard's collar back on, and then I look more closely at them. They're all engraved, each with my name on the inside, and then one of their names on the outside. When I twist them together so they combine with a click, all three of their names are visible.
I slip the ring onto my finger and hold it up so they can see. "I love it!"
"Can I continue? I'm gonna continue, because I wanna finish my beer before it gets warm. I proclaim the four of you old men and an old lady. You better fucking live up to your promises, or I'm gonna have the three of you keelhauled, that clear?"
"Clear," all three of my guys say together.
"Good. We're done. Start the party." He grabs his beer off the bar and saunters over to Miriam, where he plants a solid kiss on her mouth. At least it looks that way, since as soon as he starts, so do my guys, and then they don't let me back up for air until I agree to go with them to celebrate.
It's honestly not very hard to convince me.
