He’s been stationed at the window, watching the driveway for Mom’s car to pull up. That’s his cue to start the mission.

“Okay, buddy. It’s your time to shine,” I say, getting up to the window and peeking out at Katie, who’s stepping out of her car.

I hand William his drawing, and he solemnly takes it. Maybe I’m imagining things, but I think he knows how serious this is.

“You’d better be extra cute tonight,” I say.

William tilts his head, making his dark curls tumble over his forehead, partially covering his eyes. I laugh as he tries to brush them away with his tiny fingers.

“Don’t worry, little man. You’ve got that cute thing covered,” I say. “Now, do you remember what to do?”

“Give Mommy the drawing,” he says.

“Exactly. And?”

“And be cute.”

“That’s right.” I grin.

When Katie opens the door, William immediately runs toward her.

What a trooper. He takes his job seriously. No doubt my son’s a precocious go-getter meant for greatness.

“Hey, William. How was your day?” Katie asks, smiling. She’s been teaching William to mind his manners.

“Good,” he says. “How was your day, Mommy?”

“I had a great day. Thank you for asking, William.” Katie’s just had lunch with her friend, Daisy, so she’s not just being polite; she’s actually in a good mood.

She’s also wearing a floral dress that makes her look so hot I want to strip her down and tie her up on the bed. But that’ll have to wait.

“William has something to show you.” I join them in the hallway, by the door.

“Ooh . . . I like the sound of that.” Katie grins as William hands her the piece of paper.

As Katie takes a close look at William’s drawing, she covers her mouth with her hand. “Oh, my god, William, this is beautiful.”

When Katie twists toward William, her eyes are already filling up with water. I don’t like seeing Katie cry, but this is a good thing, right? The perfect set-up for a proposal.

Katie shifts her gaze to me when she notices me kneeling on the carpet.

“What . . .” Katie doesn’t finish her sentence. Her jaw drops, and she just watches while I pull out a small, dark box from my pocket.

“Will you marry me, Katie?” I ask as I open the box to reveal a shiny ring with a clear stone.

I have no idea about jewelry and gemstones, so Daisy’s kindly helped me to pick out this ring.

It wasn’t a coincidence Katie had lunch with her today. I needed some alone time with William for briefing and training purposes.

Katie doesn’t say anything, but tears stream down her face as she stares at the ring.

It definitely looks like she’s happy I’m proposing, but she hasn’t said anything yet and I really need to hear it . . .

“Is that a yes?” I ask, my heart pounding.

Katie quickly nods and says, “Yes. Yes, of course.”

“You’ll marry me?”

“Of course, I’ll marry you.”

Joy spreads across my chest, filling me with boundless energy. I feel like I could climb to the top of a mountain and tell the world how happy I am.

William starts squealing. He’s jumping up and down, circling the two of us.

Honestly, a part of me wants to join him, but my work here isn’t done yet.

“Give me your hand, kitten,” I say.

As if in a daze, Katie silently rests her delicate hand on mine and lets me put the ring on her finger.

This is it. She’s really mine now, finally. And everyone will know she’s mine.

“I love you, kitten,” I say as I get up and pull her into my arms.

“I love you, too,” she says.

William tugs on my hand, so I grab him and lift him up so he can join our little group hug.

Everything I’ve ever wanted and needed is here. I have everything. Only one thing is left . . .

“Would you move in with me, too?” I ask the same question I’ve been asking Katie for at least one year now. I add, in a low voice, “I’ve already put a fence around the swimming pool.”

Katie giggles. “Okay, Adam. I’ll move in with you, too.”

I smile to myself as I wrap my arms around my little family—my lovely wife to-be and my healthy first-born son.

I never thought a visit to a kinky, secret sex club would somehow turn me into a wholesome family man, but sometimes life gives you surprises.

William’s the biggest, best surprise I’ve ever gotten in my life, and I don’t think anything’s going to compare to the joy he’s brought into my life.

And Katie . . . I still don’t know what came over me that night, when I started pursuing this strange, beautiful girl at the club. But I’m glad I did. And I’m glad I never gave up.

We’ve been through a lot. It hasn’t always been easy or enjoyable.

But from where I’m standing right now, with my little family in my arms? I can safely, confidently say this is worth all the trouble. There’s no doubt in my mind.
