She laughed, turning in my arms to wrap her hands around the back of my neck. “Maybe I wouldn’t have minded.”
My gaze dropped to her lips, then back to her eyes, burning with heat and promise.
“Good to know,” I growled, bending to brush a firm kiss against her mouth. “Because we’re sure as fuck not gonna make it home.”
She smiled against my lips, her voice barely more than a breath. “I was hoping you’d say that.”
EPILOGUE
POPPY
I’d had my engagement ring for a long time, but my gaze still always drifted to it when the green sapphire caught the overhead lights while my fingers moved across the keyboard. Which it often did since Colter put a lamp on the corner of the desk he’d added to his office at the club for me to use.
Almost being framed five years ago had opened me to an unexpected job opportunity—keeping the books for some of the club’s legal businesses. My hours were super flexible, and my boss paid me in orgasms most of the time. It was great.
Plus, it freed Colter up to dabble in investments even more. Which had fattened everyone’s bank accounts to a ridiculous amount. Including ours. Not that it had needed it. I’d known Ace was good with money, but I’d nearly swallowed my tongue when I saw the amount sitting in his bank accounts back when he added me to them.
I didn’t need to work, but I loved that I was still able to put my bachelor’s degree to good use. It might’ve only taken me two years to earn it since I graduated from high school with my associate’s already, but I still wanted to keep those skills sharp.
“Hey, baby.” Colter leaned in the doorway, watching me with that satisfied smirk that continued to make my stomach flip after all this time. “How’s it going?”
I tapped a few more keys before turning toward him. “Everything’s good with The Open Road, but there’s an outstanding account payable for Inferno Cycles and Customs that’s more than thirty days past due.”
“Good job, baby.” He pushed off the frame and crossed the room, stopping behind my chair. “I’ll let Cross know. He’ll get it paid.”
“I’m sure he will.” That was putting it mildly, since I knew how seriously he took his job as the manager of the club’s garage.
Colter’s hands settled on my shoulders, his thumbs brushing slow circles against the back of my neck. “You’re sexy when you’re in your element, baby.”
I laughed softly. “I’m sexy when I’m balancing the books?”
“Abso-fucking-lutely.” He leaned down, his lips brushing my ear. “You know I’m turned on by your brain as much as your body.”
I tilted my head back to meet his gaze. “I can’t remember a single day in our almost six years together when you haven’t been turned on.”
“Because my wife is sexy as fuck.” He bent down to capture my mouth in the kind of kiss that still made my toes curl.
“And don’t you forget it,” I teased when he pulled back. “How’s Brooks?”
When I headed into the clubhouse an hour ago, our four-year-old son had been outside playing with Brendan, Violet and Echo’s son, who’d only been born a month before him. Brian, their oldest son, was bossing both boys around. He was only fifteen months older than them, but they followed his directions like he was their club president.
“He’s great. You know how those three are when they’re playing together.” He shook his head with a chuckle. “Echo is out there with them now.”
The boys were so close that we often swapped babysitting duties with Echo and Violet so we could have date nights. It helped a lot when Colter and I had plans with Rebel and Clara since we didn’t need to overload my best friend’s parents with another kid to watch.
Brian and Brendan loved their Aunt Poppy so much that they’d even suggested their baby sister be named after me when Violet was nearing her due date a year ago. And much to my surprise, they actually did it.
I turned in the chair, wrapped my arms around his waist, and smiled up at him. “How long do you think he’ll be distracted by whatever they’re doing out there?”
He slid his fingers into my hair, cradling the back of my head. “I can send Echo a text and let him know we need some time.”
Just as I was about to enthusiastically agree, King stuck his head in the door. “You two done eye-fucking each other so we can talk about the quarterly numbers?”
Colter didn’t even look away from me. “Give us five.”
King snorted. “Damn, you must be getting old if that’s all you need.”
“I hope you can hear the respect when I say this, prez. Shut the fuck up.”
King laughed and disappeared from the doorway.
I grinned up at Colter. “We should probably get back to work.”
