“What do you want to talk about?” Charlie asked, going to what looked like a cold cup of coffee.
“Ray.”
Charlie paused while drinking his coffee. “What about him?”
“Dad, I know Lost Creek has a certain rule. I also know he betrayed the whole town as well as the Reapers.”
Charlie took a long sip of his coffee, clicked his tongue, and then turned to him. “What?”
“What did you do?” Cyrus asked.
“Ray is a disappointment,” Charlie said. “I should have killed him for what he did, son or not, and yes, I fucking love him, so don’t start any of that whining shit. I know what I should have done. He is my flesh and blood, and I know what I had to do, but ... I gave him some money, and I told him if he ever brought shit to Lost Creek, I’d fucking kill him myself. Your mother wouldn’t be able to live with herself if I did kill him, so he’s out probably fucking up his life somewhere.” Charlie shook his head.
Cyrus looked toward his dad but knew the man didn’t have any reason to lie to him. “There was nothing we could have done.”
“There is a shit ton we could have done, Cyrus. We all know that. He was so difficult. He just wanted everything handed to him on a plate. He wouldn’t work hard for it. When things got hard, he just quit.” Charlie shook his head. “I had him working for me before you got him the surveillance job. He didn’t fucking listen and decided he suddenly knew more about engines than I did, and completely destroyed it.” His dad shook his head. “I thought watching the town might make him realize what he needed to do, but that didn’t fucking work either. None if it worked.”
Cyrus nodded.
“You can hate me all you want, but I did what I had to do.”
“I don’t hate you, Pop.” He took a deep breath. “I just don’t know if Ray leaving town was a good idea. He always found trouble.”
“He won’t, Cyrus. He knows what’s good for him.”
Yeah, he knew Ray, but he also knew his brother always got it in his head that he was better than everyone else. Charlie giving him money and a warning would not be good.
“I better head out.”
“Are you and Willow coming for dinner Sunday?” Charlie asked. “Your mom is making pot roast.”
“I’ll talk to Willow,” Cyrus said.
His father moved toward him and hugged him. “It was good to see you, son,” he said.
Cyrus nodded, then turned on his heel, making his way back to the truck and taking off for his next job. Life as a plumber and electrician was never dull. There was always work, and the locals liked him.
He had no choice but to head back to the school. It was an ongoing project, replacing all the old electrics with new. While he was fixing up two of the rooms, he got a call about the smell of gas at a nearby farm.
Once he had the school safe and secure, he took off for the farm, and sure enough, he had to fix the leak, which was not too difficult. From there, with autumn taking its grip, he also had several maintenance services on home boilers.
By the time six o’clock rolled around, he was hungry. Willow would already be home, and he had two choices—go home, wash, and eat there, or go straight to Willow’s. He’d already waited long enough for Willow.
He parked his truck on her front driveway, turned off the ignition, and before he had even stepped out, Willow was there, waiting for him.
“Hey,” she said.
“Evening.”
He locked his truck and made his way toward her.
Cyrus didn’t care what the neighbors said. The town would already know he and Willow were together. He had nothing to hide.
Pulling her into his arms, he kissed her hard and groaned. She smelled good, and he figured she had already taken a shower or a bath. Thinking about her naked was not helping his hardening cock. His pants were starting to get tighter.
Stepping into her home, he pulled her close, and then slammed the door closed, pressing her up against him the moment he was through the door. He didn’t even give her time to question him, as he pressed her hands up above her head and took the kiss he’d been craving since he left her this morning.
Cyrus still hadn’t taken her virginity. He didn’t want her to think the only reason he wanted her was because no one had popped her cherry. He wanted her because he fucking wanted her. She was everything.
Keeping her hands above her head, he ran his other hand down her body, cupping her tit within his palm, kneading the flesh, then gliding down toward her ass. She let out a whimper when he left those lips and started to kiss down her body. Biting on her neck, he sucked on her pulse, and then broke the kiss.
