“Yes, yes, I know.”

“Sarah said Kristin’s feelings kind of, sort of, transferred over to Shawn, and if our suspicions are right, and he has feelings for her too, that just made the spell even more intense. She has to do a…”

Hollie looked back at Shawn and Kristin, and her mouth fell open. “My God, they’re practically having sex in our kitchen in front of us! Kristin!”

Kristin quickly broke away from Shawn and placed her hand on her lower stomach. “I need air.”

“I can give you everything you need and more,” Shawn said as he pulled her back to him.

Kristin pushed him away and held her hand up. “Shawn, I have to tell you something.”

“Tell me you want me,” he pleaded.

“Tell me he’s acting,” I mumbled.

Hollie looked at me, “What?”

I shook my head. “Nothing.”

Kristin moved to put the kitchen island between her and Shawn.

“I put a spell on you to make you attracted to me, but it was only for you to notice me.”

Shawn flashed her what I thought was his sexy smile, or at least that was what the women always said when he smiled like that.

“I’ve been noticing you, baby. Ever since that night.”

Kristin looked stunned. “Really?”

“Kristin,” Hollie said in a tone one could only describe as a mom righting her child.

“Right, right,” Kristin said as she closed her eyes and shook her head. She focused back on Shawn. “It went all wrong, and now you’re obsessed with me and only want to be with me because of the spell. I know neither of us wants that.”

Something moved across my best friend’s face, but it was gone before I could read it.

“I mean, I want that…. I want you…. No, wait. What I mean is, I want to see where things go between us without a spell.”

“But you act like you can’t stand me,” Shawn said.

Kristin frowned. “Well, you act like you can’t stand me.”

Shawn slowly let his eyes travel over Kristin and moved toward her. “Let’s go back to my place and talk, and maybe some other things. I need to see you…”

“Please don’t say naked!” Kristin practically screamed. “That was in the spell, Shawn. You only want that because it was in the spell.”

“Shawn, Kristin needs to do a reversal spell on you to stop the spell you’re under.”

“Wait,” Shawn said, clearly missing his calling in life because the bastard was doing a damn good job acting. “Are you telling me you put a spell on me? Like, witchcraft-type shit?”

Kristin and Hollie both nodded.

“You put a spell on me?” he repeated, looking completely devastated. Good God, he was going to deserve an Oscar after this performance. “This feeling I’m feeling…this crazy need to be with you… It’s nothing but a spell?”

Kristin started to chew on her thumbnail. “Yes. I’m so sorry, Shawn. I honestly didn’t think anything would happen. I mean, I…I don’t know what I was thinking, to be truthful with you. Maybe a small part of me wanted you to notice me for something other than a one-night stand.”

And that was where I could see Shawn’s entire plan go out the door. “I don’t and never have seen you like that, Kristin. I thought that was what you wanted.”

“No!” she quickly said. “No, that’s not what I wanted. You left in the middle of the night.”

“Because I felt something for you, and it scared me that you didn’t feel it. I left because I was scared.”

Hollie hit me on the side of my arm. “See! I knew this would bring them together! Maybe I should open up a dating site! I could use my powers for good!”

I rolled my eyes. “Let’s just stick with the decorating thing, babe.”

“So, what do we need to do now?” Shawn asked as he and Kristin both looked at Hollie.

“Are you guys sure you want Hollie helping with this one? I mean, maybe it might be best if we had Sarah help Kristin with the spell.”

“Hey!” Hollie said as she stepped in front of me. “I am very capable of helping Kristin reverse the spell! I did yours.”

“That’s true. She did help you stop hurting yourself.”

I shot Kristin a “be quiet” look, then looked down at the hurt expression on Hollie’s face. My knees about buckled out from under me. The last thing I would ever want to do was hurt the woman I loved more than the air I breathed.

Focusing back on Hollie, I reached for her hands. “I believe in you, Hollie, and I trust that you know what you’re doing. I was kidding.”

The corner of her mouth rose in a wobble of a smile. “You really do trust me?”

Leaning down, I kissed her softly. “I really do.”

Shawn cleared his throat. “When will we do this reversal spell?”

“Sarah went to Lucy’s shop to get everything we need, and she said she’d meet me at your place or mine. Whichever you want. But you’re not mad?”
