He nodded. “Yeah, I found your tracks heading away from the barn.”
“You probably think I’m a complete idiot.”
“I don’t think that at all,” he said, as he gently brushed a piece of my hair behind my ear. My stomach fluttered, and I tried not to let my breathing quicken.
His eyes moved to my mouth, and I instinctively licked my lips. When his gaze lifted to mine again, I swore his eyes were darker.
“This is twice you’ve come to my rescue, cowboy.” When he didn’t say anything, I added, “Thank you for warming me up.”
Caden smiled, and I swore it lit up the entire room. “That part was no hardship, trust me.”
A soft laugh slipped free…then faded away when he reached over and ran a finger down the side of my face as I held my breath.
“You’re so beautiful, Lilibeth. And I was so fucking terrified that something had happened to you.”
The fight to keep my breathing under control was becoming a losing battle. I longed for him to touch my body. Anywhere…everywhere. I felt like I was on fire. I’d never experienced such desire for a man before.
“You scare me,” he whispered.
My eyes went wide. Caden was letting his carefully placed mask slip. “Why?”
His gazed moved across my face before he said, “You make me feel again.”
“That’s a bad thing?”
He smiled again, softer now, and just a little sadly. “You don’t know how much I want to kiss you right now, Lilibeth. It’s taking every fucking ounce of self-control to keep from touching you.”
I swallowed hard. Could I say what I wanted to say? I might not ever get this chance again, and it was right in this moment that I realized I wanted Caden Wilde more than I wanted my next breath.
Drawing in a deep breath, I slowly let it out, then asked, “What if I want you to touch me?”
The corner of his mouth twitched. “Do you want me to touch you?”
I decided right then and there that it would be nothing but honesty with Caden. He wasn’t the type of guy who liked to play games, and I wasn’t into that either. “More than I’ve ever wanted anything.”
He leaned forward and brushed a soft kiss across my lips.
The entire room felt like it tilted. That brief kiss felt more passionate than any other I’d ever experienced. I wasn’t sure what it was about Caden that made me feel such a strong connection to him. Was it purely sexual, or was it something more? Deeper?
I didn’t want to think about that right now.
Caden cleared his throat. “How far do you want this to go? I need to know because I’m afraid once we start, I won’t be able to stop.”
I pressed my lips together tightly and closed my eyes. When I opened them, he raised his brows.
“I have to tell you something.”
He nodded. “Okay.”
“I, um…I’ve never slept with anyone. I mean, I’m a virgin. Well, not really…I do have a vibrator, so I don’t know if that really counts as me saying I’m a virgin? You know, ’cause I put it inside me and all of that.”
He closed his eyes and groaned.
“I’m so sorry. I don’t mean to lead you on.”
Snapping his eyes open, he grinned slightly. “I’m groaning because the idea of you using a vibrator on yourself is the hottest fucking thing I could ever imagine.”
“Really?” I asked, surprised.
His finger ran along my jaw as he said, “Really. How in the world are you still a virgin?”
I shrugged one shoulder. “I wanted to wait for the right person.”
He frowned. “That’s the thing, though…I don’t think I’m the right person, Lilibeth.”
I bit my lower lip before I replied, “I believe you are.”
A painful expression appeared on his face. “Sweetheart, I can’t give you anything more than sex. I need you to know that.”
Nodding, I replied, “I know you’re not looking for anything, Caden. But I’ve never felt like this before. That’s how I know I want it to be you. I think the moment I first saw you, I already secretly hoped it would be you.”
His face softened. “Are you sure you want to do this? It’s not your frozen, thrown-off-a-horse-and-hit-your-head brain talking, is it?”
I laughed, then looked at him seriously. “I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life. I never planned to be a thirty-year-old virgin. I want my first time to be with you—and I want to experience it all.”
His brows shot up. “All?”
I could feel my cheeks heat. “Women talk, so I’ve heard things.”
Before I knew it, Caden’s body was over mine. He smirked. “What do they talk about?”
Closing my eyes, I willed myself to tell him what I wanted. If I was going to do this, I wanted to try everything I could. “I’d want to experience oral sex. I’d like to try being on top, maybe.”
