I was supposed to be a Light Guardian.
My whole life was mapped out, and I was going to proudly follow my ancestor’s footsteps. So why did the Angels reject me? I trained for years to become one of the Elite in the Angels fight against the forces of evil. When the time came for me to attend Caelum Academy, my invitation never came. With my dreams in ashes, I was ready to give up, go out on my own, and walk away from my family for good.
A knock upon my door changed everything, and this is when my story truly begins.
An invitation to be admitted to HellNight Academy, the most prestigious supernatural Academy in the world. Shrouded in secrecy and well-known for creating the worst of the worst. It can’t possibly be that bad, right? Suddenly I am exposed to a world of darkness and chaos. And nothing is what it seems.
I discover I’m more powerful than I thought, and my magic continues to grow. Everyone is watching me, and my list of enemies is a mile long, which includes the Headmistress. Of course, I have the added complication of finding my Soul tethers. My crazy band of lovers are bound to me whether they like it or not. My world is spiraling out of control. I refuse to lose myself to this world of madness.
All of my life I thought my path would be the light. I find out my destiny is fated to be something more dark, wicked, and . . . delicious.
Should I fight against it? Or should I give in?

Prologue

“Fuck. I love the sounds of debauchery at night,” I say to myself as I inhale a deep soothing breath, then release it steadily as a smile slowly spreads across my face. I can almost taste the depravity on my tongue. The syrupy sweetness of lust coming from the whores parading their wares on the streets down below. The criminals hiding in the shadows, eager to prey on their next victim who walks past unaware of the danger.

Shaking out my arms, I push my power down through the building I’m perched on top of, one leg propped up on the ledge and the other planted on the rooftop as I close my eyes. A shudder slides over my skin as the sounds and emotions of the occupants' frustrations, rage, and despair fills me. A couple argues, a child cries out in hunger, a siren rends the air, and engines rev as cars race up and down the narrow streets a few blocks away. I live for this. I bask in the chaos humanity creates, and there is no better place for me to get my fix than from the impoverished parts of town. I let the energy flow through me, feeding my power. It makes me hungry for more.

At least here there is pure honesty about the human condition. There is nowhere to hide from society’s evils, no niceties, and no pretense. It just is, and I love it. The rich shelter behind lavish walls, their wickedness shrouded in false charity and hidden by their hollow handouts. They are the worst of them. Give me honesty, I would rather have that than a lie any day. I’m a creature of darkness, but even I know there is an integrity in truth.

A flash of light catches my attention. Easing away from the front ledge of the building, I cross over to the left side that faces the alleyway. I can already feel her mid-stride, my human guise washes over me like a second skin as I reach the edge and peer down at her.

Verity . . .

Even inside of my head her name elicits a strange stirring of feelings that I haven’t felt in a very long time. I rub at my chest, sneering at myself in disgust. There’s an empty void where my heart should be. I won’t get attached to this Witch.

I watch her climb the fire escape easily, appreciating her smooth, fluid movements. Clearly, she is someone used to moving through obstacles with ease and grace. I see she wears her Light Guardian armor as well. I guess that means she’s not staying. Good. My little jaunt topside will be at an end soon. I can almost feel the Underworld calling, the gateway could open at any moment, beckoning me to return, I think to myself as I observe my passing fancy.
