Before I could make a move, shots rang out. Acting on instinct and suspicion, I slammed my elbow into Frankie’s stomach and ducked away to the side. “Get down, Amore.”
That was when Marco, my Uncle Joey and then Elio came toward the vehicle. I hid behind a large dumpster and prayed that they didn’t get hurt. As far as my so-called father was concerned my love and care for him finally died the moment I learned the truth.
“Amore, time to come out. Everything is clear. Please don’t be afraid of me.” I slid out from behind the big green bin, shaking and nervous. My heart and eyes were too afraid of what I’d see. “Ana Maria, please.” Elio’s voice was kind and gentle and I followed it. He took my hand and pulled me to him. I let out a wailing sob.
“I’m so sorry this had to happen.”
“Me, too.” He kept my head pressed to his chest away from all the aftermath.
“Are they all dead?”
“Just the driver and Gio.”
“What?”
“Your father is wounded and so is Frankie.”
“What’s going to happen?”
“We have some people who will take care of this, but we need to get out of here.” The way he said that meant I shouldn’t ask any other questions and I didn’t plan on it. As long as they wouldn’t be a problem for me, I didn’t care. He led me to their waiting SUV where he held me all the way back to his home. We were silent as Marco drove and my real father sat in the front.
When we arrived, I asked him to stay. We all gathered in the sitting room even though we could all use a fresh shower. “There’s a lot to talk about,” I said. “It will be quick because I know there’s a lot to do, but I have to get this over with.”
“I know you probably hate me for your father, but I refused to let him get away with harming you,” Elio started off, but I pressed my hand to his forearm and stopped him.
“He’s not my father.” I looked over Elio’s shoulder to my uncle and said, “Someone kept a big secret.”
“Wait, are you saying…” My uncle tilted his head, looking more perplexed than I expected.
“That you had an affair with my mother.”
Tears formed in my uncle’s eyes. Something I’d never witnessed before. This is hard for me to discuss.
“We can talk about it another time.”
“No, you need to know the truth. I can’t let you go on believing a lie. You’ve been lied to your entire life. Hell, I’ve been lied to your entire life. I could have given you a better life.”
“Your mother was my girlfriend first. Then she met my brother and left me. He swept her off her feet and she caved. I didn’t hold a candle to his charm. Shortly after they were together she was pregnant.”
“And you didn’t question the paternity?”
“No because we were careful, and she swore it was his and they never used any protection. She said you were his and you were born on time or now that I’m thinking about it, you were probably late. Still, we didn’t have an affair no matter what he said. I was too heartbroken to even speak to them again for a long time.”
I pulled out of Elio’s arms and then grabbed my uncle’s hands, holding them in mine. “Relax, I believe you.”
“Good because I’d hate it if you were mad at me forever.”
I hugged my real dad. “I could never. You’ve always been there for me.”
He pulled back to wipe his tears away. “I don’t know where we go from here.”
“You’ve always been more of a father to me than he ever was, so that really hasn’t changed.”
“Good. Can we talk about it tomorrow?”
“Yes.” We said our goodbyes so the men could shower. I needed to wash off the bad feelings and the touch of that loser. Elio and I showered in separate bathrooms, so when I stepped into our bedroom my handsome fiancé was standing there in just a towel wrapped around his waist.
“I guess our wedding will have to wait?” I asked, staring at his impressive build.
He crossed the distance, slipping his hands around my waist. “I didn’t think you’d still marry me after all that.”
“I thought you weren’t giving me a chance to say no,” I whispered, reminding him of his promise.
“I’m not, but I at least expected you to put up a fight.”
“I don’t want to. You’re the reason I’m safe.”
“Forever your safe place, Ana Maria, Amore mia.” He dragged me close and then I tugged on his towel, revealing his impressive cock. My mouth watered when I stared at it.
“Can I?”
“You can do whatever you like, but I’d sure love to see you on your knees for me.” He snagged his finger under my towel and gave it a simple pull, sending it to the floor. I gently took his length in my hand, testing the velvety feel and thick girth along my fingers. My thumb rubbed over the tip, gliding a drop of his precum across the fat head. A curse fell from him as he held his fists at his sides.
