“Kara.” Our hands drop, and I should have noticed it before now. Clearly, I’ve been looking and thinking of other things, or I’d have noticed her pebbled flesh, goose bumps lingering along her skin even in the hot Florida heat.

“A pleasure to meet you.” Her breasts rise and fall, either my touch or words are getting to her. Whatever the case, it’s so goddamn incredible I’m having a hard time shutting our conversation down in order for her to go for what I’m assuming is a dip in the pool.

“Likewise. I’ll give you my phone number now, so you can text me when I need to come over. I don’t know his usual routine, like food, treats, that type of thing.”

“Right, that’d be smart. I’ll walk down with you. This guy needs to go outside, and he might embarrass me if we don’t make our way to a patch of grass soon.” Kara lets out a soft laugh.

“We can’t have that, can we?” She looks at me, then bends to give Scout another pat before locking eyes with me again. “Management might say something about a stain on the concrete.”

“Thanks again, by the way. It seems I’m putting more of a burden on you than anything.” My hand goes to her lower back to guide her toward the stairs. She doesn’t shrug me off; in fact, it seems she gives me some of her weight. Scout leads the way, his sniffer going faster than his little body can keep up.

“It’s not much. Plus, I think you’ve repaid me in more than one way already.” Kara smiles. The effect goes straight to my cock. It’s a damn good thing I’m wearing jeans instead of a loose pair of shorts, or she would get more than she bargained for.

“Ditto, sweetheart.” Her sweet moans, her low groans, that’s all a man could ever ask for without being in the same room as her. The moment we make it down the stairs, Scout heads for the first piece of grass he can find and does the complete opposite of what most male dogs go—he doesn’t lift his leg, thank fuck. Instead, he does this stance where his back legs lengthen while he takes care of what he needs to do.

“I guess this is where we part ways.” She takes her phone out of her bag, unlocks it, and then hands it over.

“For now.” I plug my number in her phone, then hit Call. I hear it ring a few times before ending it.

“Yeah, for now,” I repeat. My hand slides from her lower back to her hip, feeling the heat from her skin skimming the tips of my fingers, and I decide to press my luck further.

“Dean.” The way she mutters my name, it’s a lot like the way I heard her through the wall.

“You’re a hard woman to resist, Kara.” I put it all on the line. The ball is in her court, and what happens next is all up to her.

“Who says I want you to resist?” When she licks her lips, I dip my head and brush my mouth against hers. Kara’s hands go to my chest, holding on.

“Not starting something I can’t finish.” I don’t deepen the kiss, and I don’t do what I want, which is to back her up against the wall, grip her hair in my hands, and taste every inch of her. “When I do, I’m going to take my time and enjoy every minute of you, sweetheart.”

“Okay.” She’s still on the tips of her toes, reaching for more, and damn if I don’t want to give her that.

“Later, Kara.” I brush my lips along hers one last time.

“Later, Dean. I’ll look forward to it.” My hand drops from her waist, and hers do the same from my chest, leaving nothing but coldness in their wake. I stay with Scout, making sure I give him a treat when we get back, since he didn’t make me look like a fool and was a good boy. Kara heads off in the direction of the pool, and I watch her the entire time, not caring that when she tosses her head over her shoulder, she sees me doing so. I give her a wink and a subtle nod, and I’m rewarded with her pretty smile.

And all is fucking perfect in the world. I’ve got her name, her number, and next, I’ll have her.

“Come on, big guy, let’s go inside, get you settled, and call it a night.” While I don’t have work tomorrow, I would like to stick to a schedule. The following week, I’ll start at Barlow’s. My brother isn’t one for set hours, and neither am I, but I do know the first few days are going to be hell on earth. The office is more or less stacked to the ceiling with paperwork, and my goal is to get the shop into this century, which will mean scanning everything I can into an online system, sorting out the parts orders, and dealing with the multitude of calls, questions, and complaints that come with working at an auto repair shop.
