“I’m ... not what you think I am,” she said.

“You’re not?”

“I’m boring and I’m a prude, and I don’t know what I’m doing,” she said.

Roman took a step toward her, then another. “The woman in my arms last night was no prude, nor was she boring, and she certainly knew what she was doing.”

With him this close, she found it hard to think. She tilted her head back and looked at him.

“I can see it in your eyes, Abi. You want this, you’re just afraid.”

“I love this job.”

“And I would never take it away from you. You earned this role. It’s yours. Always.”

“Relationships are messy.”

“True, but you and I will be different. Aren’t you tired of fighting this? Fighting what we have?”

She was. Last night had been amazing. Even when he took the mask off, she’d been shocked, and the truth was, delighted at the same time. The reality of their situation only came to her when he went to the bathroom, and that was when she took her quick escape.

“Think about it,” he said.

He stepped away, and that pull was broken.

“Now, there are three files on your desk I need you to organize. Something isn’t right, and I don’t like it. Can you find it for me?”

“Yes.”

“Also, get Nate on the line. I need to talk to him about his current proposal. I don’t like the cost he’s offered for advertising.”

“I’ll get to that now.”

Abigail didn’t have time to think, as she left his office and quickly got Nate on the line for Roman. Next, she had to go through all three files to see what was off with each one. Several of the contracts hadn’t been signed by the respective managers. While Roman was on the call, she grabbed her cell phone and the three files, and went to each floor where the forms hadn’t been completed. Once that was done, she had to deal with an HR problem.

Then, there was lunch.

Roman had also arranged a quick meeting in his office, which she gathered coffee for, sat in, and made the necessary notes.

The day went by with one job after another.

Most of the staff left by one o’clock on a Saturday, but Roman was in his office, dealing with international problems in the company. Abigail checked through his schedule, made the necessary arrangements, and before long, it was five in the afternoon, and their day was over.

She didn’t have a single second to think. She worked through her lunch break.

Getting to her feet, she made her way inside Roman’s office, and he’d loosened his tie, along with a couple of buttons at the collar.

“Close the door, Abi,” he said. “And come here.”

The command in his voice instantly turned her on, and she knew without a shadow of a doubt she was in a lot of trouble.

All afternoon Roman had been swamped with call after call, meeting after meeting, and he was growing a little pissed off with having to put time on hold with Abi to deal with work.

Abi walked to the door, then stopped and turned to look at him.

“Actually, why don’t we go to dinner?” she asked.

He got up from his chair and rounded the desk, leaning against it. He really wanted Abi to come closer to him, so he could put his hands all over her.

“Dinner?” he asked.

“Yes, dinner, where we can talk and negotiate what you propositioned this morning,” Abi said.

The flush to her chest gave her away, as well as the blush staining her cheeks. His woman was aroused. He knew if he pushed, he’d get what he wanted, but now his curiosity was piqued. He wanted to know what was going on in that head of hers.

“Fine.” He reached onto his desk, picking up his phone, and dialing the Italian restaurant that always had a reservation for him. All he had to do was call in and they would have everything ready for him. It took less than three minutes to arrange a table. “Are you ready to go?”

He noticed Abi made her way to her desk, grabbing her jacket and bag, and then proceeding to keep her distance. She didn’t come too close as they made their way onto the elevator. Roman knew exactly what she was doing, and rather than find it annoying, he actually found it endearing. She was trying to create space between them. She was worried she wouldn’t stick to her guns.

He was okay with that. Invading her space was not something he had planned, especially not to make her uncomfortable. However, he did stand close enough to be able to smell her soft, floral scent. From the moment she had worked for him, that scent had driven him crazy, and even now as they made their way down toward the parking lot, he wanted to ask her what it was. He stopped himself.
