At the sound of the bathroom door opening, and Emily’s voice, Abigail nearly dropped her cell phone in the toilet. In the process of trying to be silent and capturing her cell phone, she’d switched on her camera and was currently filming her shocked face. She was just about to press “stop,” when Emily’s words started to register.

“Look, I can’t talk right now, but I am so close to getting a big payment,” Emily said. “Roman doesn’t want me around, and if I apply a little more pressure and play my cards right, he will pay to get rid of me, and then I’m made.”

Abigail opened the door slightly and held her cell phone up.

“Please, it doesn’t matter if he’s the father or not. That man didn’t touch me, and to be honest, I threw myself at him, and he told me to back the fuck off. One date, and he never called me back. Didn’t even give me a piece of jewelry, the tight bastard.” Emily rubbed her stomach. “I don’t even know who the father is, but it’s not Roman Brown. That man didn’t touch me, weirdo. Every man that sees me wants me.”

She could not believe what just happened. Whoever was on the call continued talking, and then Emily giggled, told them she loved them, and hung up. Abigail watched as the woman turned toward the mirror and literally posed.

“Yeah, this will be a good news story. ‘Broken model with baby on the way, dumped by business tycoon.’ The money will come pouring in for my story.” She blew a kiss to her reflection and left.

Abigail was amazed.

She had hidden in the bathroom because she wanted to stalk this woman to see if there was any chance Roman was into her, that he might be the father of her baby. She would accept it, but it would fucking suck.

Opening the bathroom door, she clicked “stop,” and then watched the footage back.

Was Roman really tempted to pay this woman off?

Abigail looked at her reflection. She was nothing like the Emilys of the world. She was not beautiful. Perhaps she could pass as “pretty.” She didn’t turn heads when she walked into a room.

There were people who respected her, but even in this building, a lot of men hated her.

Roman didn’t deserve to pay for someone who was actively trying to just get a payday. It angered her.

Squaring her shoulders, she tossed the leftovers of her lunch into the trash and made her way to the elevator. There were a lot of people milling around, gossiping, talking about the model Emily. Some of the men claiming Emily was looking at them and they felt they had a shot.

She ignored all of them and made her way to the conference room on the floor beneath Roman’s office. All heads turned toward her, and Roman looked furious.

“You better not be signing anything,” Abigail said.

Roman frowned at her.

“I don’t think interruptions are essential.”

Abigail played her recording and pressed it down onto the table, making sure the volume was turned up. She looked toward Emily. “When you’re attempting to blackmail or extort money out of a man for a child that is not his, I suggest you don’t have these conversations in the open.”

Emily had gone pale.

“How do we know that is even Emily?”

Abigail turned on the screen and connected it to main office board, so it could play in color for them all to see. It showed Emily’s face, Emily’s voice, and Abigail was shocked at what a clear picture she had gotten.

“I don’t think there is any mistake,” Abigail said, handing her cell phone to Roman.

“What were you doing spying on me?” Emily asked.

“I wasn’t spying. I was actually trying to get away from the office gossip.” Abigail left the room, her heart was pounding, and she felt sick to her stomach. She got onto the elevator and went straight to the office. There were several files on her desk.

Roman didn’t return right away. By five-thirty, he still hadn’t returned, so she made her way home. It was strange to be leaving the office without knowing what was going on with Roman. This office fling was not exactly turning out how she had hoped. They had barely had sex.

Once at home, she made her way straight to the bathroom, removing all her clothes, stepping into the shower, and washing the day from her. After her shower, she then made her way through to the bedroom, changing into a pair of shorts and a tank for bed.

All she wanted to do was sit with some ice cream, but that wasn’t healthy. Going to her fridge, she had some leftover pasta salad and some cold meat. She cut up the cold meat, spread it over her pasta salad, and took it to her sitting room, where she sat and ate.
