Bram Wylde was more bear than human, but he embraced it. With the need to fight regularly to let off steam, he allowed his alpha bear to run free when others kept their inner animals under control.
When he saw Kenzie Harlow, a timid deer shifter with wide, innocent eyes, every possessive instinct in his body rose up. He vowed she’d be his by the end of the night.
Kenzie had only known captivity at the hands of Rook, a panther shifter who’d been so obsessed with her he kept her as his property for years. But when she finally made her escape, she didn’t know where to go. She had no one, nothing. But then she ran into Bram, a bear shifter who was more animalistic than maybe even Rook. And then Bram declared her his mate, and she knew what that meant. Forever.

When Kenzie found herself at Bram’s isolated cabin, she knew keeping her distance would be nearly impossible. The chemistry between them was too strong, too powerful to control.
But if Rook couldn’t have her, then no one would, and Bram would show the panther just how feral he really was when it came to protecting his mate.

Books in Series:

Wylde Brothers Series by Jenika Snow

Books by Author:

Jenika Snow

1

The stench of blood, sweat, and testosterone filled the small, dank basement. If a shifter wanted to do a little bare-knuckle fighting, Slater’s was the place to be. There were no rules or regulations, and the only time a fight ended was when the other male tapped out or lay unconscious on the dirty ground.

It was what Bram fucking loved. It also made the excitement that much more tangible when he had thrown back a few shots of whiskey, so he was partially numb. He might have been too old to be fighting like this, like he was some kind of young bear, but even at thirty-three, he had this wild energy coursing through him, and it seemed the only way to alleviate all of it was to kick another male’s ass.

Tearing off his shirt and tossing it aside, he prepared to fight the lion shifter in front of him. Bosco was a big motherfucker, and probably had a good thirty pounds and two inches on Bram’s two twenty-five, and six-foot-two frame.

None of that mattered much, not when the two of them could shift and their human forms would no longer be in calculation. This was all about letting out the animal that resided in them until blood pooled on the ground and flesh was torn.

Bram honestly didn’t know why he was like this. He had this violence inside him, one that couldn’t be expelled until he threw punches and connected with a living body.

He had always been like this, and although his brothers, Ford and Charlie, never had this intense need for violence and aggression inside them, they never judged, not really, and Bram never felt guilty for it. In fact, he relished it, absorbed the sensations that coursed through him, and let his bear have free rein.

Maybe he should have been more reserved, had better control of his inner beast like his brothers did, but he had never understood why Ford and Charlie felt the need to keep their bear under control. Yes, they were part man, but the animal always reigned supreme over their human side. It was as simple as that.

A human was no match for a predator, even if said man was also housing a fierce creature inside him.

“I’ve been waiting a long time to get my chance with you.” Bosco tore his shirt off, and the lion rippled under the male’s tan flesh. Yeah, Bram had seen the male eyeing him at every fight Bram participated in. Clearly, the lion had some kind of vendetta against Bram, but he didn’t give a fuck, because he was about to show Bosco why he never lost a fight.

Bram’s bear rose to the surface, snarling and snapping for the chance to get at the lion. He already had a few shots of liquor, and although he wasn’t drunk, the alcohol allowed him to feel more in control. Cracking his knuckles and grinning, Bram let his bear free. Bones popped, human skin tore open, and after only seconds, the transformation was complete.

He stood to his full ten-foot height and roared out. Bosco looked unaffected, the cocky bastard, but soon he’d be limp and bloody beneath Bram’s paw.

They met in the middle, tore at each other, bit into each other, and growled in anger. Pain was a hot poker throughout Bram’s body, but he wanted more, got high from the pain, and wasn’t about to be defeated. A wave of adrenalin washed through him, and he used all of that renewed energy to finish this.

He needed another shot. He was ramped up now, and before he went home for the night, he needed to get rid of it.

Bosco let out a howl when Bram sank his teeth into his side. He wasn’t going to kill the asshole, but maiming him was a whole other story. In a matter of seconds, the lion grew limp beneath him, and Bram took a step back. His massive chest rose and fell, and he looked down at the animal by his feet.

His bear was a fierce fucking creature and gave him the power he needed. He couldn’t describe why he was more primal than his brothers, but that was the reality of it. He got high off of it, and it made him stronger, bigger, and gave him the outlet he needed most of the time. Fighting seemed to placate his bear’s need to come out with a vengeance.

A few males off to the side eyed Bram cautiously. They stepped forward and dragged Bosco to the corner where they could check out his wounds. Bram hadn’t caused any serious injuries, but the lion would be hurting for a while; that was for sure.

If Bram hadn’t taken him down, it would be him that was lying limp on the ground. It was either man-up or get his ass kicked, and Bram was not going for the latter. He shifted back into his human form, grabbed his clothes that were in a pile on the floor, and quickly slipped just his jeans on.
Talia Landon, a red fox shifter, knew she was in trouble when she saw Ford Wylde for the first time. But what was supposed to be a one-night stand turned into a mating with a Wylde bear.
Ford had enough baggage from his past to drown him, but the moment he saw Talia, he felt something in him awaken for the first time in his life. She was his mate. But when someone from Ford’s past tried to insert themselves back into his life, Ford had to make it known Talia was his, and nothing and no one was going to get in the way of him claiming his female.

But loneliness had people seeking warmth and a connection.

Had they even had that together? Maybe not.

But he wanted a change. Ford didn’t feel things he should in a relationship. They were two separate people now, the connection gone… if it had even been there at all, if he were being honest.

“You heading out?” Ford asked, but he wasn’t even granted a response.

Silence. It was always silence. His thoughts drifted to better times, happier ones that didn’t have him questioning everything and having the gut feeling that Mina wasn’t honest with him.

They’d had that cliched, young relationship, and he always hoped he’d feel something more for her. But she’d been there to help ease his loneliness. He used her in that way, and he was a bastard for it.

It wasn’t unusual for a shifter to be with a human, and maybe he’d been so sick of feeling that hollowness that he’d just given over to the need to feel… something.

But if he were being honest, he questioned what they were doing together from the beginning.

Mina came out of the bathroom dressed and grabbed her purse off the floor. “I gotta run, Ford.” She said it without even looking at him. Her makeup was freshly applied, and he caught the scent of the perfume she just spritzed on.

It pissed him off even more, not because she was leaving, and not because she was apathetic. Hell, he was right there too. He was pissed because she couldn’t even look him in the eye.

He wasn’t a fool, not when his inner animal smelled her desire. And the fact that she knew he had those attuned senses and didn’t even try to hide it or act like she cared had him feel… nothing.

I feel nothing.

This needed to be done, a Band-Aid pulled off fast. “Mina, we need to talk.” This conversation was a long time coming. Without looking at him, she adjusted her skirt and made an annoyed sound in the back of her throat. When she finally glanced up at him, he saw clear indifference.

“About what? I kind of need to get out of here, Ford. Can we talk tomorrow?” Her tone was annoyed. She went back to straightening her outfit. “I mean, I came over so we could hang out, but I could tell you weren’t here, not in your mind. It was a waste of time.”

Yeah, it really had been. He’d been trying to see if there was something there, a spark, a hint of a flame. But there hadn’t been a damn thing.

He felt the urge to shift into his bear, to go outside and find something to fucking hit, preferably a big-ass male who could give as well as he could take. “I know you’re not here, Mina, not really.” She stared at him in the eyes then, maybe surprised he was calling her out. “I know you have other males. I can smell them on you.”

And I don’t even care. How fucked up is that?

She didn’t say anything for long moments, and his annoyance was growing, his patience waning. He felt his claws unsheathe as his emotions took control, as he hated himself for wasting his time on someone other than his mate.

“Ford.” She breathed out heavily, impatiently. The pained expression she gave him appeared sympathetic, but he could fucking smell how bored she really was.

“Mina, I can’t do this. I should have never done this with you.” He ran a hand over his face, feeling like a failure. He should have waited, should have held out hope that he’d find his mate, the one female meant to be his. He opened his eyes and stared at her. “I’m sorry I wasted both of our time. I want you to be happy, and I do care about you… just not like that. I’m sorry.” He was a bastard, and he’d live with this guilt for the rest of his life.

“Ford,” she said softly.

“I just don’t understand why you didn’t just end it if you weren’t feeling it either.”

She was silent for a minute then asked, “Why didn’t you?”

He slowly shook his head. “I don’t know, maybe hope? Maybe I hoped something could grow out of… nothing.” There was that word again.

“I didn’t mean for this to turn out to be nothing, Ford. I really didn’t. I guess I liked having you around, my big bear who would protect me and make me feel safe. I used you, and I’m sorry for that too.” Her tongue poked out as she wet her bottom lip, and even though the words sounded sincere, he could tell there was a lot more she was going to say. “I met Kevin at the office, and we hit it off, fell in love almost instantly.” She cleared her throat, acting like she was uncomfortable.
February “Ary” Felina, an ocelot shifter, decided getting drunk on her Dirty Thirty birthday was a bad idea. But at the end of the night, she was in Charlie Wylde’s bed, the intimidating alpha bear shifter in the town of Sweet Water.
But then the unthinkable happened. The contraception broke during their wild, passionate night, and Ary found herself knocked up by the possessive, growly shifter.

When Charlie saw Ary for the first time, he instantly wanted her. The bear in him needed to mark and claim her until everyone knew she belonged to him. And so he made that happen—took her to his home and claimed every part of her in the raw, animalistic way of his kindShe might’ve thought this was a one-off night of pleasure… but she was wrong. He wasn’t letting her go, especially not now that she carried his baby.

Reader note: This story was previously published as Bared for Her Bear. It has been re-edited and revised.

February “Ary” Felina looked over at Melissa and rolled her eyes. “Of course you do. It isn’t like it’ll be you that’s putting yourself out there for rejection.” Ary took a long swallow of her Sex on the Beach and glared at Melissa and Candace.

“Why do you think you’ll get rejected?” Candace asked right before she sucked her piña colada through the bright-pink straw.

“Because that asshole Frank told her she wasn’t any good, which, I’ll add, I would have been happy to kick him in the balls for that one.” Melissa didn’t mince her words, and Ary loved that about her. “Besides, what do you expect from a jackal shifter? Jackals are always assholes if you ask me. You remember Chuck the Big Old Fuck?”

How could any of them forget? Usually, Melissa only dated wolf shifters, but she’d given Chuck, the douchebag, a chance, which only ended up in him sleeping with her cousin behind her back at her sister’s wedding.

It was true though. Ary stayed in the verbally abusive relationship with Frank—the jackass jackal, according to Melissa—for a year too long. Everything started out great, but of course nothing in her life could go the way she wanted it.

First, there had been the subtle hints she should watch her portions at dinner, and then it escalated to Frank “jokingly” calling her plain and homely in front of his friends. So what if she was Plain Jane all the way? She loved her body and looks, and the person she spent her life with would love them as well. That she had no doubt about.

Maybe she should have just stayed with her own kind, or even with a human. They were weaker than even her, a female shifter, and tended to find being with shifters some kind of kinky oddity.

But to be honest, male ocelot shifters were too clingy and submissive for her liking. February had always wanted a guy who could take control, but apparently she looked in the wrong place where jackals were concerned.

This was her thirtieth birthday, after all, and Ary had grown comfortable with the way she looked. She loved every aspect of herself, and it was a damn shame the jackal fucking shifter hadn’t seen the beauty in that.

So, she called it quits with Frank, especially when he continued to make comments about her looks in front of his buddies, who laughed like they were high on nitrous oxide. She’d broken up with him a week ago, and now she was ready to put his sorry ass behind her and move on.

She might have the self-confidence now, but that didn’t mean she still wasn’t a woman who worried about rejection from a guy for putting herself out there.

“It isn’t even about Frank, guys.” And it wasn’t, really, but the looks her two wolf shifter best friends gave her told February they didn’t fully believe her. “It’s true. Anyway, you can’t tell me you don’t have a moment of hesitation when confronting a man. In fact, I know you two like to be sniffed at and approached like you’re some kind of prize.” Both looked at each other, and Ary had her answer without them having to say a word. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.”

They both shrugged, and Melissa leaned forward. “Okay, change of subject then. What else are you going to do to celebrate the big three-oh, Ary?”

Oh, Lord.

“Can’t we just sit here and enjoy our tropical drinks without you going all sex-crazed?”

Melissa grinned in a purely wolfish way and shook her head. Ary loved these girls like they were her sisters, but sometimes she wanted to wring their necks, especially Melissa. Ary had known them since high school, and when the three of them stood in the cafeteria that first day of freshman year, each of them looking scared shitless, they found a friendship like no other that very moment.

It was hard enough living in a world where some humans could shift into animals, but tack on the fact that she couldn’t find a decent man, and well, that just made it even more frustrating. She was getting older too, and February would be lying if she said she didn’t look into the future and see herself with a wonderful husband and a handful of children.

“Hell no, we can’t just sit here and drink these frilly-ass drinks. You’re thirty years old now, and let’s all be honest and admit you’re not getting any younger.” Ary glared at Melissa and noticed Candace sitting smartly quieter to her right.

“I’d like to remind you that you’re the same age, bitch.”

Melissa grinned and leaned back in her chair. She gestured for the waiter to bring them another round, which February objected to.

“Melissa, I do have to drive home tonight.”

“Not if I can help it. My goal is to get you in the car with a hot—and safe—male.” She looked around the bar and tapped her perfectly red painted nail on her chin. “Although we are in Sweet Water, so that might be harder than it sounds.”
