Dante
When I was younger, I believe I almost stumbled upon something I shouldn’t have. Something that upset my mother and made her abandon us all. It was all my fault.
I grew up wondering how she could leave us? My older brothers never blamed me, but I’ve blamed myself. So much so I never asked questions when I was thrown into the family business. Then I had my little girl. I thought I could take a vacation from being a Di Lorenzo.
However, my selfish wife has ensured my return to the life. I will no longer be able to remain an outsider to what my brothers and I have been handed.

Lizzy
The Di Lorenzo’s have secrets. I know a lot about having those. When Gio Di Lorenzo hired me five years ago, I knew those secrets would come out. His younger brother Dante doesn’t know who I am and now I’m stepping into shoes I never thought I’d fill.
When this becomes personal, all thoughts of keeping my secrets go out the window. In the blink of an eye, I become who I was created to be.
Will the truth tear everything apart? Will there be one secret too many? Or will it all go according to plan in this unexpected love?

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Not everyone is worthy of your love. If they can’t respect you, respect yourself enough to walk away.

―Blue Saffire

Preface

Black Sheep’s Sacrifice

Gio

“It’s taken care of,” Jace whispers in my ear.

I nod and narrow my eyes as my brother, Dante, stands before me at the altar. My little brother is making a mistake. I understand why. However, he’s a grown man, so I’m going to allow him to make this decision on his own.

That doesn’t mean I’m not going to cover him. It’s only one more secret I’m going to own. As the oldest, I’ve learned some things he’s yet to understand.

Life is about sacrifices. I’ve made many. I’ve been making sacrifices since I was told all the things I’ll never be. In their eyes, I’m the weak one.

Funny, it’s the weak hand that moves while the strong one strikes. In this life you need the weak hand to distract from the real power moves. I play the hand I’ve been dealt, but this isn’t about me.

I’m getting ahead of myself. One day—and I say this with confidence—I’ll right all the wrongs done to Ava Di Lorenzo’s boys. All the secrets will be out and there won’t be a weak link to be found.

First, my brothers have a few lessons to learn. For now, I’ll leave our secrets to rest. Even my sister-in-law will be allowed a reprieve from the monster she has woken.

I’m patient. I had to learn to be. If nothing else I’ve said is remembered—remember this. When you bite a poisonous snake, don’t be surprised when it bites back.

Chapter 1

Trick or Treat

Lizzy

Laughter surrounds me and I roll my eyes. I’m at a great part in this book and all I want is some peace and quiet. Too bad all employees are required to come to these company parties. It’s supposed to be a bonding experience.

For an introvert like me, it’s like being boiled in hot grease. The only saving grace has been the fact that I get to dress up. Although, I had to dial back from the cosplay costume I had in mind as this is a work event after all.

Everyone already thinks I’m weird. I can only imagine what they would have thought if I showed up as Nubia. I sigh as I mourn not wearing my Black Wonder Woman costume. It would have been a representation of my hero. My big sister, she’s the versions of me I wish I could always tap into.

“Happy Halloween, Lizzy.” I look up and give a kind of grimace smile to one of my coworkers. I can’t think of his name at the moment. He’s one of the interns. He likes to talk a lot. I don’t want to encourage that tonight.

I want to be left alone so I can finish this chapter. The main point of this costume was to be able to get away with reading with no one being the wiser.

As soon as I arrived, I found the first high boy not occupied by humans. I’d much rather spend the night with my book friends than these people.

They’re not all bad. However, I don’t like peopling. I’d rather stab my eye out than talk to people who look at me like I speak another language. I learned a long time ago; I’d rather not speak than be made to feel like I need to dumb down for others.

“Is this what I have my brother paying you so much for?”

I grin and get ready to say something snarky as I turn around. I freeze in place as I look up into the eyes of Gio Di Lorenzo. I’m startled at first by the white contacts he has in—they’re such a stark contrast from his intense hazel eyes that always seem to be consumed by secrets. Even with the pale makeup, long blond wig, and fake blood dripping from his lower lip, he’s still breathtaking.

All of the Di Lorenzo’s are. However, this man has been a force from the first time I met him. Our meeting always brings a smile to my face. Gio lifts a brow and gives a dirty grin as if he’s reading my thoughts.

“You and I both know this isn’t what your brother pays me for,” I say before leaning in to whisper. “Nor is he the one who pays me.” I wink.

He winks back and places a finger to his lips, then glances around swiftly. “You look stunning. I don’t regret a dime.”

I laugh. “But that’s not what you pay me for either and we know the pumpkin will return at midnight.”

He frowns at my words and looks me deep in the eyes. I have to look away from his gaze as if I’m being burned. Gio is hot. I mean, melt your panties off hot, but I’m not a match for him or his tastes.
Dario:
When I was younger, I believe I heard something I shouldn’t have. After what I overheard, I don’t believe our mother just up and left us. I was a kid. I didn’t have money, power, or respect to get the answers I needed back then. Not until now. I’m being promoted in the family and I’ll have all the power I need.
However, there’s one problem, I’m in love with my best friend and business partner. Carleen is everything I would want in a wife. If only being a Di Lorenzo didn’t threaten her life.

Carleen:
I’ve been in love with Dario Di Lorenzo since I was eight years old. My father believes that’s the reason I walked away from being a surgeon to become a chef. One drunken night and Dario learns my secret. A secret that leads to a bigger secret that threatens my life as I know it—everything is about to change.
I’d give my all for Dario. Even if that means becoming what he doesn’t know he needs.
Will all these secrets tear everything apart? Will the Di Lorenzo world turn everything on its head? Or will one single wish fall in with the plan?

*This is a Novel in the Work Husband Series the beginning of a new world and is not connected to any other Universe of Blue’s at this time. Blue Saffire’s books are written to weave, loop, and intertwine with one another, so for the best experience in this series, it’s best to read it in order.

**This book has strong language and sexual content. This Book is for Mature Readers 18+

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Sometimes everything you want is right before your eyes. Have patience it all will be made clear.

―Blue Saffire

Preface

Prodigal Son

Gio

“It’s done,” Jace whispers in my ear as I sit in this irrelevant meeting.

I grunt and give a slight nod as he fades back into the background. Then I focus on the room around me.

I’m discounted, forgotten, unconsidered, but I’m okay with that. These men have no idea what’s coming for them. Old age has made them all complacent and out of touch.

The world has changed, and they haven’t. Leadership has failed and they’ve become sloppy in their antiquated ways. This generation has no care or respect for the past or the rules. As a result, these men are becoming obsolete.

My grandfather, on the other hand, has remained sharp. He asks questions. For everything he teaches, he asks for a lesson in return. I admire him for this.

He will be the saving grace for a few. The others will get what they deserve. Their greed will consume them. Their lack of foresight will end their world as they know it.

My gaze lands on Dario. My twin brothers are unique and the complete opposite of each other. While Dante responds with brutal force and builds from the hand he’s dealt. Dario is a quiet storm.

He’s the thinker, he always has a million questions. He’s going to say what he thinks, and he’ll come at you once he figures out the problem he needs to solve, but Dante is the one who’s going to silence you and ask questions later. Not Dario—unless provoked into a blinding rage—which takes a lot or involves Carleen.

This is why he was chosen for this part. Yet here he sits with a stern scowl on his face. I know this isn’t what he wants.

He still doesn’t fully understand what he’s needed for. His mind is elsewhere. What he wants belongs here in America. Dario found his forever years ago, but there are others who have tried to map out his future and take that away from him. Or at least they think they have.

Dario won’t be the one to make the sacrifices in this family. That will always be me. I’m the tsunami they don’t see coming.

Ever wonder why magicians say abracadabra? It’s to get your attention off their next move. The word calls to your ears and distracts the eyes. It’s like brain confusion. Like biting down on a virgin’s ear as you break their barrier.

Well, I, Gio Di Lorenzo am the biggest fucking abracadabra there is. I’m the wand, the hands, and the curtain the wizard is hidden behind, the smoke and the damn mirrors.

They fucked up writing my ass off—but wait, I’m getting ahead of myself again. This isn’t about me. This is about my little brother and how I’m going to make sure he gets to have the life he should. He was never meant to be the Don of our family—yet another illusion. He’s not the one with the dark soul. Not as dark as it would need to be for what’s coming.

No, they started this, and I will finish it. There are layers to everything I do. They fucked up thinking they could replace me. Like I’m not a fucking Di Lorenzo by blood.

We’ll see. I promise you this, if you’re going to come for me, make sure your ass is smart enough or at least smarter than me. I wish these motherfuckers luck, I have never been anyone’s fool.

Just because I don’t turn my head every time a snake rattles doesn’t mean I don’t hear the rattling. My axe is always at hand, ready to chop heads. I am Gio Michelangelo Di Lorenzo, put respect on my fucking name.

Chapter 1

Musings of a Child

Dario

I look down into my palms as I sit on this park bench. This is the same park where Carleen became my best friend. My mother would bring me and Dante here to play. It was like an escape from that big house.

While Car and I were friends for years before we could run this place, some of my fondest childhood memories happened right here on this playground. It was a time so much simpler than now. My mother would tell me to enjoy being a child.

I get it now. When I have the weight of the world on my shoulders it all makes sense. I rub my thumb into my palm, longing to talk to my mother.

I feel like she would tell me the right thing to do. I’m not like Dante or Gio. They have accepted who we’re supposed to be. I accepted it on the one hand, but I still have a life of my own I want to pursue.

I have dreams beyond becoming the Di Lorenzo Don. I’ve wanted more for my life than being one of Nonno’s Capos. If not for my Italian pride, I probably would say fuck it all and run off with the one constant in my life—Carleen.
Gio
I never meant to hurt my mother. She wasn’t supposed to see us. I should have gone after her, but I was angry, young, and confused. I knew what they thought, but they were wrong.
I made a promise, one I planned to keep. However, it would cost us all. I’m the reason—the reason the twins lost their mother, the reason Ny lost her family, the reason Jace has no one. I’m the problem and the answer.

Nyla
I can’t lose them. They’re all the family I have left. Lizzy is all grown now, but she will never know what I’ve sacrificed for her, for dad, for aunt Denise, for my heart. He wanted my body, it was his, he wanted his doll collection, I let him have it.
Now I want something from him, we both do.

Jace
I’ve always wanted two things. Revenge and a family. I’ve shared everything with him since we were born. The two of them have been in my life through it all. Losing my mom and dad, having to watch my new family fall apart.
He promised he’d help me make this right, but I don’t know if he will give us what we truly want. This time we may have asked for too much.
Will this request unravel it all? Will the Di Lorenzo’s lose everything because we lost our way? Or will the ones left behind restore all that was lost?

*This is Book 3 in the Work Husband Series from bestselling, award-winning author Blue Saffire. This is part one of two and end with a cliffhanger.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Revenge is sweetest served cold, but don’t lose yourself waiting to serve it.

―BLUE SAFFIRE

PREFACE

Outcast

Gio

Ah, everyone is here. We’re ready for my turn. All eyes are on me but allow me to get some shit straight. No matter what picture has been painted about me, I’ve never been a finook.

Not that it’s anyone’s business what happens in my bed or who’s in it. It wouldn’t make a damn difference. I’d still gut you and hang you from a rusty hook by your asshole for fucking with my family.

However, Jace has never been in my bed for me. He’s only there for her. Her. She’s what holds us together. All I do is for her.

Hold on, I’m moving too fast. You’ve been peeking through the looking glass, but from the wrong angle. I need you to understand why we are who we are. Why I have a doll collection. Why there’s a doll master and curator. You need to see just what all my hand has been in.

Some may see my mother as the mastermind. Okay, I could see that too. However, even Ava Di Lorenzo didn’t see who her son would become. Yes, she has trusted me, but she’s never known the full plan. No one has. The plan to make it so no one could take away what the two most important people in my world asked me for.

I’m not just the doll collector. I’m the ultimate puppet master and genie. I grant wishes, I make shit happen.

Nyla wants to hold on to the family she has left. Jace wants a family of his own. I want to restore my family and give them both what they asked for. All within a world that says I can’t have that. An antiquated world that fears anything that’s different.

How do you exist in a world that calls you names and shakes its head at all you love? You blow that motherfucker up and show them the beauty of all that you are.

I, Don Gio Michelangelo Di Lorenzo was born for this. If you’re not for me, you’re against me, but you won’t take away what brings me joy.

It’s time we tell you our story. It’s the only way for you to understand us. Let us show all the things the others couldn’t.

CHAPTER 1

We’re Different

Nyla

Summer 1995…

“We can’t sit in silence like this all day,” I mutter into my lap.

Jace remains silent, but Gio scoffs bitterly and pulls a face. The glare he sends my way sends a chill through me. I bite my lip and stare at him pleadingly. He sinks down in his seat and fidgets with the remote against his thigh, turning it in circles over and over.

We should be having fun out by the pool like we would have done a week ago. Like normal teens or at least as close as we can get to being normal teens. We’ve been different all our lives.

Goonies plays on the TV as I sit on the floor of Gio’s bedroom with my back to the screen as Gio and Jace sit across from each other in the two game chairs, refusing to acknowledge each other. They’re both so stubborn. We all are.

Ava says it’s our battle for dominance that will bring us together or tear us a part. We all crave it, but in different ways. I’m willing to find a balance for us as friends and family, but I believe that’s the problem.

Wiping a hand across my forehead, I frown and pout. I hate this. The silence is killing me. Neither of them is watching the movie.

It’s been a hot day. We came inside to cool down, but the real discomfort is coming from the tension surrounding this room. It’s my fault. I didn’t mean for things to get like this.

However, I should have known better. This is Gio, after all. I know him better than anyone.

It’s just…I thought. I still don’t know what I thought. Mommy calls me an old soul. She says I always want to grow up too fast and I have a hard head. I think my hard head has cost me everything this time.

I’ve been in love with these two all my life. I love them both for different reasons, but I love them the same. Jace has always been there for me emotionally and I him. Gio, oh God, when it comes to Gio there is something in my soul that has always belonged to him.

The boy can have anything from me he wants. He was my first kiss and I hope someday he will be my first like he promised. We come together on a mental level too. I know how Gio thinks. People underestimate him and they are so wrong to do so.

The three of us complete each other. We’re closer than close. What started out as a crush on my two best friends has turned into something so much more.
