She’s the pregnant girlfriend of my deceased best friend.
I told myself that marrying her was the right thing to do.
Of course it’s natural to want to protect her
And to make sure she’s okay.
But the more time I spend with her the more I want this to be real.
Her family wants her back.
I want her to stay with me.
Somehow I have to prove that the three of us are meant to be together… forever.

The Whiskey Run: Guardians MC is an “mc Lite” series of standalone books. Each story has a swoon-worthy alpha biker that will stop at nothing to protect and claim the woman he loves.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Ellie

I’m sitting in the front row, listening to Dawson’s father talk about Dawson’s childhood. I keep my eyes averted to the podium because I get sick to my stomach every time I look at the closed casket. I’m sitting next to Gray, Dawson’s best friend, and he’s been quiet through everything but hasn’t left my side. I’m not sure why he’s stayed with me; we’ve only met twice before, but I’m pretty sure he knows about the baby. I told Dawson two weeks ago, so the chances are good he’s told his best friend.

I sniff and try to find a dry piece on the Kleenex in my hand, but when I can’t, I wad it up and sniff again. Gray reaches into the front pocket of his suit jacket and brings out some Kleenex before handing it to me. I take it with my free hand and nod at him. Yeah, he definitely knows about the baby.

I look at Dawson’s mom and dad and have an uneasy feeling. Gray introduced me earlier, and neither of them had a clue who I am. It was obvious that they don’t know their deceased son had a girlfriend and was going to be a father. I know they have a right to know, but it’s not going to be today. No, I’m sure they have enough to deal with already.

Dawson’s father is talking about Dawson playing hockey and how he had the chance to go pro but chose the military instead. He’s going on about the trophies and how he was a natural athlete. I listen to him half-heartedly as I turn my head to look behind me. I was surprised when I saw the number of women that were here alone today. It was weird because none of Dawson’s family or extended family really talked to them, and I’m curious who they are.

When I glance at one woman, she looks back at me with a glare, and in surprise, I freeze up. Gray reaches for my hand and squeezes it. From that point on, I don’t let go. I’m not sure what is going on here, but I have a feeling Gray does, and he’s trying to protect me from it. I look at the man next to me. I don’t know a lot about him, but I know he was a good friend to Dawson. They actually grew up together and then eventually joined the Army together. When it was time to re-up, Dawson stayed in, but Gray left and joined some kind of biker club.

I think back to the first time I met him. Dawson and I had met up with him and bunch of others at the bar. Dawson had too much to drink that night, which was a common occurrence, I was starting to find out, but at least I didn’t have to get him home on my own this time. Gray helped me get him back to the base, and then he made sure I made it home okay.

I shake my head side to side to clear my thoughts just as Dawson’s father finishes talking. When the service is over and the casket is lowered into the ground, everyone stands up. There is a gun salute, and even though I knew it was coming, I jump at every shot fired.

Finally, I look at the open grave and watch as dirt is dropped inside. Pulling my eyes from it, I look as everyone starts to move and the family all join together. I pull my hand from Gray’s. I hate to, and a feeling of loneliness fills me, but I know that it’s the right thing to do. My voice is hushed. “I’m sorry you feel like you have to babysit me. He was your best friend. You should be with his family. I’ll be fine.”

Gray shrugs his shoulders. “They blame me... They think he joined because I did.”

I want to laugh at that. “But that’s ridiculous. Do they know their son at all?”

He shrugs and clasps his hands together in front of him. His jaw is pulled tight, and his eyes are tired. “It doesn’t matter. If it helps them to blame me, I’m fine with it.”

I shade my eyes with a hand. “Can I ask you a question, Gray?”

He pulls me to the side away from people, and when he stops, he’s looking at me worriedly. “Sure, what is it?”

I look around at the women still milling around. “Do you know who these women are?”

He doesn’t blink; he doesn’t even move. I can tell he’s debating on how to answer me, and before he opens his mouth, I tell him, “I need the truth, Gray.”

He’s going to tell me. I can see the way he’s looking at me, and it’s right then that I decide I need to find out for myself. I don’t need to burden Gray and make him feel guilty for saying something he feels like he shouldn’t. His best friend is gone, and I’m sure he feels a certain loyalty to him. I think I know who the women are, but I can’t leave here without knowing. “Forget it. I’m going to go and thank them for coming.”
He says he’s broken, but I know I’m the missing piece.

My marriage is a sham. I know it, everyone knows it. But when my husband–the congressman–is found murdered, I’m the first one accused.
Now, I’m on the run with only my designer purse and high heels to my name. All I want is to clear my name. I have no one to ask for help, still help shows up in the form of a hot, tattooed biker who claims to hate women.
I don’t expect him to believe I’m innocent. I don’t expect him to protect me at all costs. I definitely don’t expect to fall in love.
He says he’s broken, but I know I’m the missing piece.

FULL BOOK START HERE:

Chapter 1

Allison

"Last stop Whiskey Run."

The announcement over the speaker on the bus has me looking around at the empty rows behind me. I am the only person left. I’m definitely not a mastermind when it comes to trying to get away without being noticed. Most people go to big cities when they don't want to be found, yet here I am arriving at probably the smallest town in Tennessee. It's not really my fault, though, and I know I should be a little bit gentler with myself. The last couple of days have been pure hell, so of course I’m not going to be completely on my game.

When I bought the ticket, I gave them almost every dollar bill I had and told them to take me as far as I could get. Little did I know that almost a hundred dollars would only get me two hours away from home. Left without a choice, I stand up and pull the strap of my purse across my body. I don’t have a lot of options yet, and I need to make the best of it.

I thank the driver and climb down the steps of the bus. There's a big sign in front of me, Whiskey Run, home of Blaze Whiskey.

Damn, I could definitely use a drink about now. I look to the right, and there's not much in that direction, but when I look to the left, it seems to lead me to the middle of town. I take off walking, ignoring the pain in my feet from my high heels. When I left my house today, I had no idea that I’d basically be running for my life.

As I get into town, I notice a bar and a sign that says Whiskey Whistler. The open sign is off, but I try my chances and pull on the doors, but they don’t budge. After a quick look at my watch, I figure, of course, it's not going to be open at 10 in the morning, especially in small town, USA.

I walk past the bar and come up to a restaurant with a sign that says Red's Diner. Looking in the big windows, I see that there are a few people at the tables while a woman with long red hair walks between them, talking and laughing. Just looking at her brings a smile to my face. She looks friendly and has a contagious smile. If nothing else, I can grab a bite to eat with the change in my purse and try to come up with a plan. Hopefully, one that doesn’t have me sleeping outdoors.

I pull open the front door and walk in. The woman with the red hair instantly greets me and points me to a corner booth.

I go over and sit down, opening my purse to see what change I have. After a quick count, I see that I have roughly $4. I look at the menu and decide I should probably stick with a cup of coffee or something with sustenance, but when I see the advertisement for the apple Blaze cake, I know I can't pass it up.

"Hi, I'm Violet," the waitress says.

I smile up at her. "Hi, I'm Allison," I say and shake my head. Maybe I should have stuck with a fake name. Oh well, too late now.

"What can I get you to eat?" she asks.

I point at the cake on the menu. "I'd like that."

She laughs and takes the menu that I hand her. "It's going to be one of those days, huh?"

I nod in agreement. "Definitely one of those days."

"It'll be right out." She almost skips away from me over behind the counter. I take a look around at the other people sitting down at tables, and they’re all watching me even if they’re trying to act like they’re not. I’m sure they’re trying to figure out what the outsider is doing here in their town.

As Violet approaches, I take my eyes off the other people and look down at the table. Violet sets the cake down and then takes a seat in the booth across from me. "So are you new in town?"
I thought she was the one… Until she left without a trace.
Brandy wasn’t like the other club girls. I knew it the first time she walked into the clubhouse.
There was something about her that forced me to let my guard down. And It took a while to earn her trust… but I knew she’d be worth it.
I was planning the future. And she was living in the past.
Everyone in her life has let her down, And she thought I was next. So she ran.
She left me, in the middle of the night no less. I gave her time, thinking she’d come back to me.
When I’d given up all hope and was about to go find her, She came back to me.
She needs my protection and I’ll give it to her. But I’m going to need her heart in exchange.
Everyone’s drinking, laughing, and having a good ol’ time. Earlier tonight, the Pres made the official announcement about the MC moving to Whiskey Run, Tennessee. It’s been in talks for months now, and even though it was supposed to be under wraps, word got out, and everyone knew about it. But now it’s official. In two weeks, twenty of us are moving to the other side of the country. Myself included.

We all knew it would happen sooner or later. When Walker moved his Ghost Team of mercenaries to Whiskey Run, we knew we’d eventually make the move. We’ve worked with the Ghost Team a lot in the past, and Walker already got things in order for us to make our way there. We leave in two weeks, and so the pressure is on.

I’m not sure what I think about it. I hate change. I like structure. I’m sure it’s from my life growing up in different foster homes, never knowing where I would be sleeping the next night. Or maybe from my life in the military. You never knew what was going to happen there. Since I joined the MC, yeah, there are days where things happen out of the blue or I’m sent on missions that make me have to be flexible, but for the most part, I’m here at the clubhouse, working on my bike and living a calm life.

While everyone is preparing for the move, I’m realizing that I have exactly two weeks to make some leeway with Brandy. She’s been working at the clubhouse for the last month. She’s a club girl, but she’s different. She’s not like the cherries. The exact opposite actually. The cherries do anything to make the guys happy; Brandy does whatever she has to do to avoid us. She does her job, and she does it well, but she’s not interested in talking, flirting, or anything else.

The times I’ve tried to talk to her, she’s answered me in a clipped voice and then went on her way. But that hasn’t swayed me. I’ve watched her, and the more I watch her, the more I want to make her smile. She’s a hard worker and doesn’t ever seem to stop. Whatever Scout, one of the guys that runs the bar area and her boss, asks her to do, she does without hesitancy. She gives everything one hundred percent. But I’d be lying if I said that her work ethic is what attracts me to her because it’s so much more than that. She’s beautiful with her curvy waist and the way her jeans are snug against her ass. She has half the guys here watching her as she works her way between the tables and back to the bar area.

Even now, as she’s grabbing empty bottles up and wiping off the table, I can’t take my eyes off her. I think she knows it too. She never does anything to encourage me, but sometimes when she looks at me, I watch as her eyes widen, and she bites onto her lower lip. Every damn time I want to reach out and run my thumb across her lip to soothe it, but I don’t dare. No, she’s going to have to come to me because I’m pretty sure if I push her too fast, she’s going to run.

I ignore the guys at the table and walk by her. I don’t say anything—hell, I don’t even touch her even though my hands are trembling at the thought of it. No, I slow down my pace when I get next to her. She lifts her eyes and stares at me, partly in fear and partly in wonder. She doesn’t trust me, not yet, but she will. I just have to keep my shit together.

I force a smile on my face and try to keep it friendly instead of predatorial. “You doing okay tonight?”

She takes a deep breath and answers me with a hitch in her voice. “Yeah, I’m good.”

Her eyes never leave mine, and it’s like she’s waiting breathlessly to see what I’m going to do. I’m not sure why she came here to work because she’s not comfortable around men, but the fact that she is here tells me she’s brave beyond reason. It’s a good thing that our club doesn’t believe in hurting women – ever – under any circumstances. I nod my head at her and keep walking, not letting myself be drawn into the heat that her body puts off just standing a few inches away from her. “That’s good, honey. Real good.”

When I do walk past her, I don’t have to look at her to know that she’s let out a sigh in relief. I’m a big man. Way bigger than her, and I can’t help but wonder if that freaks her out a little bit. I pick up the pace, knowing that being this close to her is too tempting when all I want to do is turn around and take her in my arms. But even as I hightail it past her, I can smell the scent of her vanilla and honey shampoo. My hands tighten into fists at my sides because I can’t do what I want to do. I can’t touch her, taste her—hell, I can barely talk to her.
