Nalia never expected to move back to her hometown, especially not with her ten-year-old sister in tow. But when her biological mother is sent to prison, she finds herself stepping into the role of parent. Overwhelmed with her new reality, she turns to the one place she has always felt safe. Home with her family.

What she doesn’t expect when she moves home is him.

After getting divorced, Logan Rafe is not interested in another relationship. His world revolves around his two kids and the auto shop he built from the ground up.

But then he meets Nalia Mayson. Beautiful, brave, and completely uninterested.

Using everything at his disposal, including their kids’ friendship, as an excuse to get closer, Logan slowly breaks down her walls. And before long, what began as an unlikely friendship becomes something deeper, something only he saw coming.

But healing takes time, and Nalia will need to accept herself and her past before she can fully let herself fall in love. And the two of them, well, the two of them will need to navigate having children, a school bully, and a complex family situation if they are going to find their happily ever after

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

One

NALIA

I attempt to open my eyes when the alarm on my phone starts to beep on the mattress next to me, but they are so heavy with exhaustion, I can’t seem to pry them open. Reaching one hand out from under the blanket, I search for my phone and begin tapping the screen until the obnoxious noise is cut off.

I have never been a morning person, growing up I drove my parents crazy waiting until the last possible minute to get up for school, and as an adult not much has changed. Only now I have to be personally responsible for making sure that I actually do get up. There is no one around to threaten me with a bucket of ice water or to come into my room a few dozen times annoying me until I’m out of bed.

When my second alarm starts to buzz, I groan and search for my phone again, then repeat that process of turning it off.

“Are you ever going to get up, Namalama?” Peeking one eye open, I look at the bedroom door and find my baby sister standing in the doorway holding a bowl of cereal in one hand and the spoon in the other. At almost ten years old, she has mastered the art of adulthood. I swear, some days she is more mature and self-sufficient than I am, and I know for certain that she is more mature than other kids her age.

Then again, she had a life where she had to do things on her own. My birth mom wasn’t, or isn’t, the type of person to put anyone else above her own wants and needs. Hence why she lost custody of my twin brother, Sage, and me when we were little. She wanted to go out and party, and decided that at two years old, we could just stay on our own for days. That’s how we ended up in foster care and later adopted by our parents, Nico and Sophie. It’s also why, when I was old enough to look into my birth mom and found that she had other kids, I got in contact with her and moved back to Colorado. I didn’t want what happened to my brother and me to happen again. And I guess part of me wanted to get to know her. But over the years, I’ve realized I wasn’t missing out on much with her not being in my life. I do have a good relationship with her other two kids, who are older now and both in the military, stationed overseas.

“I’m already up, Zuri, you’re just imagining me in bed,” I mumble, and she rolls her eyes.

“That’s good since I have school this morning.”

Shit.

I’m sure she thinks I forgot.

“The doors don’t open until eight twenty-eight, kid. We still have a long time before we have to leave. We won’t be late.” I toss back my comforter and sit up, placing my feet on the fuzzy carpet next to the bed, smiling at her. “You look cute.” In a pair of jean shorts and a pink and white striped shirt with frilly socks and her favorite black and white Vans on her feet, she looks like a preppy skater girl.

“Thanks.”

“Do you want me to put space buns in your hair?”

“Yeah.” She smiles.

“Alright, go get your hair stuff, and I’ll meet you in the kitchen.” I get up and stumble to the bathroom, flipping on the light, almost blinding myself.

After brushing my teeth, I wash my face, apply moisturizer, and tie my hair into a ponytail before I shut off the light. I wander back into my bedroom, straighten my cream duvet, and fix my pillows, adding the decorative ones that I tossed on the floor last night before I got into bed.

I get dressed in a pair of jean shorts and a t-shirt and walk down the hall, the smell of freshly brewed coffee getting stronger the closer I get to the kitchen.

Stepping around the corner, I find Zuri at the island with her grey and white rat, Pippin, perched on her shoulder. I was less than happy when my parents surprised her with the animal at the beginning of summer, but much to my dismay she fell in love instantly, and I knew that there was no turning down the gift.

“I made you coffee.”

“Thanks, kid.” I pour myself a cup and walk to the fridge, taking out the creamer. It’s almost empty, actually. The fridge is almost empty. I need to get to the grocery store today at some point. I mentally add that task to the ever-growing list in my head.

Some days, I feel like no matter how much I do, there is still stuff left undone. It wasn’t an issue when I was only responsible for myself, but now, I have Zuri to look after, so I can’t just put off unwanted tasks. If I don’t go to the store, she doesn’t have food to eat; if I don’t do laundry, she doesn’t have clean clothes. Sometimes the reality of having someone else depending on me can be a little too much, but I’m adjusting. We’re adjusting. And I think that we’ve done okay for ourselves so far. It doesn’t hurt that now that we have moved back to my hometown, closer to my parents and family I have a whole village of people who are willing to step in anytime I ask. Or even when I don’t ask, and they see me floundering.
Bax Mayson thought he had escaped the family curse—until he saw Olivia Gannon again. It’s been eight years since he last laid eyes on his best friend’s little sister, and now, fate has thrown her back into his life. As if their undeniable connection isn’t complicated enough, a mysterious threat looms, determined to tear Olivia away from him.

For Olivia, moving back home wasn’t supposed to change everything—until it did.
Running into Bax was the last thing she expected, but that one encounter sets off a whirlwind of events she couldn’t have imagined. Now, with family tensions rising, exes resurfacing, and a hidden enemy out for revenge, Olivia must figure out who—or what—they’re fighting. Because one thing is certain: she and Bax have something worth fighting for.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

Bax

Shoving open the door to Blue’s Bar and Grill, I step inside, bypassing the podium where a small crowd is waiting to be seated for dinner. I nod at the people I know as I head for the bar, where my brother Talon is sitting with a beer in front of him. His eyes are glued to the game playing on the TV behind the counter.

His focus turns to me when I pull out the stool next to his and ask, “Did you just get here?”

“About ten minutes ago.” He glances behind me. “Where’s Liam?”

“He’s on his way. He got caught up with the delivery guys that were dropping off the roofing supplies for that house on Hickson.”

“They late again?”

“You already know the answer to that question,” I mutter, and he presses his lips together.

“That’s the third time, right?”

“Yep, which is why we need to have a serious conversation about finding a new supplier.”

“We signed a contract with them, didn’t we?”

“Yeah, but I believe it’s up at the end of this year. We can confirm with Liam when he gets here.” I make eye contact with the bartender and motion to the beer Talon’s drinking, letting her know I’ll have the same and getting her smile in return.

“Did Maxim reach out to you?”

“No, what’s up?”

“He wants to meet up to talk about some work he’s wanting to have done at that house he and April bought to flip in West Nashville.”

“Do we have time to take on that job?”

“I’m not sure.” He shakes his head. “I’m going to meet with him on Monday and do a walk-through of the house to see how extensive the job would be. I just don’t know if we have the time to commit to that project with everything else we have going on.” He drags his eyes from mine to look at the TV when clapping erupts around us, and I do the same, catching the tail-end of the team that just scored a touchdown celebrating before it cuts to a commercial.

“You put any money on this game?”

“I bet Liam twenty dollars they’d win.” He shakes his head, lifting his beer. “This season was supposed to be their comeback.”

“You say that same shit every year.”

He turns to glare at me. “They’re your team too.”

“Yeah, but I’m not under some false impression that they’ll come back better than ever.” I laugh at the look he gives me, then change the subject. “Where’s Mia tonight?” He’s always with his wife and kids when he’s not working, and it’s rare that he asks to go out for a beer anymore.

“With her sister and all the kids, setting up for tomorrow.”

“What’s happening tomorrow?” I pick up my beer that the bartender slides in front of me.

“Pumpkin carving, and if you tell me you forgot and made other plans, Mia will have your balls.”

Shit.

“I didn’t forget.”

“Right.” He pulls out his phone when it starts to ring. “It’s Mia. I’m gonna go talk to her outside, be back.” He slides off his stool and walks toward the door.

I take a swig from my beer, then turn to look over my shoulder when a tinkle of laughter hits my ears. I wouldn’t say I know everyone who lives in the town I grew up in, but there aren’t many I don’t, and I definitely have never seen the woman sitting at a high-top table with my next-door neighbor Kourtney. The laughter comes again, and I watch her with her head thrown back and a smile on her face. Sensing me looking, she takes her eyes off Kourtney, and her face softens in a way that says we do, in fact, know each other as our eyes connect.

Dragging her gaze off mine, she says something to Kourtney, who looks back at me, lifting her hand in a small wave while her friend slides off the tall stool she’s sitting on. As she starts walking my way, I try to figure out how the fuck I know her.

I don’t. I would remember her long-as-fuck dark hair that my fingers could get lost in and the flare of her hips, which are accentuated by her jeans and the sweater she’s wearing. Her face has likely played a role in a million men’s fantasies. She’s not just pretty; she’s gorgeous, with delicate, feminine features, big brown eyes, and full lips that look unbelievably soft.
More bookworm than Barbie, Reese Shepard is completely caught off guard when the most beautiful man she has ever seen in her life steps in and pretends to be her boyfriend when some creep won’t leave her alone.

She assumes that it’s the last time that she’ll see the chivalrous stranger, but soon he is everywhere she is. And before she knows what’s happening, the two of them are spending all their free time together bonding over their love of the ocean, scary movies, and homemade cookies.

Reese knows that a guy like Brodie Pierce could have any woman he wants and that becomes even more apparent when she finds out that he’s a pro hockey player that’s worth millions of dollars. So to save herself from the potential heartbreak she places him firmly in the friend zone.

If only he’d stay there.

The infuriating man starts pushing for more, lots more, and the worst part is she wants to give it all to him including her heart.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

One Thousand and One Dark Nights

Once upon a time, in the future…

I was a student fascinated with stories and learning.

I studied philosophy, poetry, history, the occult, and

the art and science of love and magic. I had a vast

library at my father’s home and collected thousands

of volumes of fantastic tales.

I learned all about ancient races and bygone

times. About myths and legends and dreams of all

people through the millennium. And the more I read

the stronger my imagination grew until I discovered

that I was able to travel into the stories... to actually

become part of them.

I wish I could say that I listened to my teacher

and respected my gift, as I ought to have. If I had, I

would not be telling you this tale now.

But I was foolhardy and confused, showing off

with bravery.

One afternoon, curious about the myth of the

Arabian Nights, I traveled back to ancient Persia to

see for myself if it was true that every day Shahryar

(Persian: شهريار, “king”) married a new virgin, and then

sent yesterday's wife to be beheaded. It was written

and I had read that by the time he met Scheherazade,

the vizier's daughter, he’d killed one thousand

women.

Something went wrong with my efforts. I arrived

in the midst of the story and somehow exchanged

places with Scheherazade – a phenomena that had

never occurred before and that still to this day, I

cannot explain.

Now I am trapped in that ancient past. I have

taken on Scheherazade’s life and the only way I can

protect myself and stay alive is to do what she did to

protect herself and stay alive.

Every night the King calls for me and listens as I spin tales.

And when the evening ends and dawn breaks, I stop at a

point that leaves him breathless and yearning for more.

And so the King spares my life for one more day, so that

he might hear the rest of my dark tale.

As soon as I finish a story... I begin a new

one... like the one that you, dear reader, have before

you now.

Prologue

Reese

I don’t know exactly what wakes me up, but when my cell on the nightstand beeps, I reach over and pick up my glasses, putting them on before grabbing my phone and bringing it close to my face so I can read the screen. Frowning at the notification informing me that Kirk finished a workout, I realize that I picked up his phone attached to his watch, which keeps track of his steps and how many calories he’s burned in a day. I glance behind me and find him gone. The two of us were up late studying for a test last night, so he stayed over rather than drive back to his apartment near our campus. It’s something he does on occasion when Richard and my mom are out of town like they are now.

Richard, my mom’s fiancé, travels a lot for work and likes Mom to go with him, leaving me alone in the house for days at a time—unless Richard’s daughter, Melissa, decides to stay here rather than on campus with her sorority. Which rarely happens.

I look at the time in the corner of the phone. It’s a little after two in the morning—an odd time to work out—but Kirk has been stressed about the test he has coming up. Maybe he needed to burn off some energy.

Sitting up, I toss back the covers and get out of bed to check on him. After I drag a hoodie over my sleep tank and shove my feet into my slippers, I leave my bedroom on the second floor, Kirk’s phone in hand. The house is dark and quiet, and, if I’m honest…a little creepy, which is why I often ask Kirk to stay over. I hate being here alone.

Hearing a bump as I start down the stairs, a sense of unease slithers through my insides.

I’m about to turn, head up the stairs, and go back to my room, but I freeze in the stairway when I hear a door open and then a familiar giggle. My heart pounding, I peek around the corner and watch Melissa, wrapped in the robe I got her for Christmas, kiss Kirk in a way I never have.

Pressing my hand against my stomach, I slowly back up one step and freeze again when the stair creeks under my weight.

“What was that?” I hear Melissa whisper, my heart pounding in panic.

I turn to rush up the stairs, but my slippers slide on the shiny wood, causing me to fall as I fumble for the railing. My glasses slide off my face as I skid down the steps, my footwear doing nothing to keep me on my feet. I land on my ass.

“Reese?” Melissa says in disbelief. I squint, unable to really see her.

“Shit, Reese, are you okay?” Kirk gasps, rushing up the steps to my side.

“I’m fine.” I shake him off when he grabs my arm to help me up.
Hanna has always dreamt of the day when she’d find the perfect man and start a family of her own. But one horrible dating experience after an another, has her second guessing her ability to trust her own judgment when it comes to men. After her last failed relationship with a man who had a whole other life that she knew nothing about, she makes a promise to herself:
No dating and no serious relationships for a year.
But a vacation fling isn’t dating is it?
Walker St. James has always lived his life one adventure at a time, and settling down hasn’t been something he’s ever considered until her. Hanna Mayson. A woman he knows he could easily fall in love with. But while he’s trying to figure out how to make things between them work she informs him that all she wants is a vacation hook up.
Giving her what she wants is easy but if he gets his way they will be anything but temporary.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

CHAPTER 1

hanna

“London Air would like to give you a warm welcome to Paris, where the local time is 2:00 p.m. We hope you enjoyed your flight with us today,” I say over the intercom as soon as the plane touches down. “Please stay seated while we are taxiing, and make sure to keep your seatbelts fastened until the signs are switched off. We will be arriving at Terminal Two, and for any customers with checked luggage, you can pick it up at Carousel Five. If you’re continuing on to Ibiza with us, please stay in your seat. As always, thank you for flying with London Airlines, especially our deluxe cardholders. Your loyalty is hugely appreciated.” I hang up the mic while people talking on their phones and the sound of more than a few seatbelts unclicking fills the cabin as we slowly taxi toward the gate.

When the plane comes to a stop, I get up and tuck my seat away, then walk to the small kitchen to put my Kindle in my purse. I take my position, waiting with a smile on my face as everyone gets up and begin to gather their things. No matter how big the plane is or how many passengers there are, it’s always the same — a mad dash to see who can get ready first. Something I will forever find comical, because everyone will have to wait until the people in the rows in front of them exit.

“All set?” Douglas asks, stepping out of the cockpit.

“All set.” I smile up at him. I love Douglas, and not just because he sounds and looks like he could be part of the cast of one of my favorite shows, Game of Thrones, with his Scottish brogue, bulky frame, striking red hair, and fair, freckled complexion. But because he and his wife and kids have become like family to me.

I turn my attention to the door when I hear the latch click open and smile at Matty, one of the ground agents, when he opens and shoves it aside.

“Hi, Matty.”

“Uh… hey, Hanna.” He looks like he’s going to say something more, but he glances over at Douglas and snaps his mouth shut.

“Are things ready for me to start letting people off?”

“Yes.” He clears his throat. “Ready when you are.”

“Awesome.” I give him a reassuring smile, because he looks a little nervous. Then again, if you don’t know Douglas like I do, he can seem intimidating.

“Yeah, awesome,” he agrees before turning around and walking off.

“When that lad finally works up the courage to ask you out one day, I’m going to buy him a pint.”

“He doesn’t want to ask me out. You just scare the bejesus out of him.”

“Whatever you say, lass,” Douglas mutters, and I roll my eyes at him, then turn my attention to the passengers waiting anxiously to my left.

“Have a great day, guys.” As soon as the words leave my mouth, the people closest to me begin to hurry off the aircraft, while Douglas — unlike some pilots I work with — stands tucked into the doorway of the cockpit so he can say goodbye to everyone as they deplane.

As the final passengers getting off are coming up the aisle, Joslyn — who is working with me today — follows them up to the front, looking exhausted.

“Are you all right?” I ask her after the last person exits through the door.

“I’m going to hop off and get a coffee. I stayed up last night studying, and I didn’t realize how tired I was until we landed. Do either of you want something?” She looks between Douglas and me.

“Give me a second, and I’ll go with you,” Douglas says before turning back to the cockpit, where I’m sure he’s asking his copilot, George, if he wants anything.

“How much longer until you get your pilot’s license?” I glance over at her as I reach for my purse to get her some money.

“About five months.” She runs her fingers through her long, dark hair.

“That’s exciting.”

“It’s terrifying.” She gives me a tired smile. “Friday will be my last shift working with you.”

“No!” I pout. “I can’t believe you’re leaving me already.”

“I know, but I need to get in as much flight time as I can, and I just can’t physically do both jobs anymore.”

“That’s understandable,” I say as Douglas comes out of the cockpit.

“Ready?” he asks her.

“Yeah.” She takes the money I pass her, and I don’t even bother telling her what I want, because she already knows. I always order the same thing—a large coffee with oat milk and vanilla syrup.

When they leave, I pop my head into the cockpit to check on George, then I do a walkthrough to pick up any garbage that was left behind, stopping to chat with the few passengers left in their seats.
Bestselling author Aurora Rose Reynolds returns with a new story in her Until Him/Her series…

Having been put through the ringer by her ex who was a perpetual cheater and master manipulator, Bridgett doesn’t have much faith in men. Then Noah comes into her life, a guy unlike any man she’s ever known. Not only is he dependable, kind, and honest, he’s too hot for his own good.
Not that any of that matters since Bridgett is still technically married, and Noah has made it clear without words that he’s not interested.
So what’s the worst that could happen when there’s a fire and he offers her a place to crash until she can get back on her feet?
Protecting those in need comes with his job as a police officer, so Noah’s not surprised by his need to protect Bridgett. The feelings of possessiveness when it comes to her are not something he knows how to deal with.
Noah knows he should keep her at arm’s length, but instead of putting distance between them he keeps finding ways to bring them closer together and he’s not sure if she will ever be close enough

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

One Thousand and One Dark Nights

Once upon a time, in the future…

I was a student fascinated with stories and learning.
library at my father’s home and collected thousands

of volumes of fantastic tales.

I begin a new

one... like the one that you, dear reader, have before

you now.

Chapter 1

Bridgett

Toilet Paper and Beer

Sitting in my car outside a random gas station I pulled into to fill my tank, I stare at the message I just received on my phone and feel my throat tighten—not with sadness but frustration. Two months ago today, I moved out of the house my soon-to-be ex-husband Conner and I shared. And since then, he’s made it his mission to make my life hell.

Every day, it’s a text or a phone call asking me to come back to him. And when I refuse, he lashes out. Why he even wants me back is anyone’s guess. He doesn’t love me. I mean, how could he when he’s constantly sleeping with other women and has since we got married? Plus, he wants a child, and I absolutely do not.

Not with him.

I might have done some not-so-nice and really stupid things in the past, but I would never bring a helpless baby into an unstable environment. Which is the whole reason he told me he wanted a divorce to begin with. He found out that I was still taking my birth control after expressing his desire for us to have a baby. Like the decision was solely up to him.

I admit I had second thoughts the first couple of weeks after leaving him because I was really fricking scared, and my mom was adamant that I was doing the wrong thing. But now, I have zero regrets.

Actually, that’s a lie. I have a whole bunch of regrets, but none of them have anything to do with moving out of the house he and I shared or contacting a divorce attorney after he didn’t. Because he only used the topic of divorce as a way to try to manipulate me into giving him what he wanted.

With no choice but to text him back, I drag in a breath, then quickly type a reply, letting him know exactly what my lawyer told me just a few days ago. He cannot, in fact, take my car from me—regardless that it’s in his name—so long as I pay the lease payment every month and keep the insurance up to date. Which I have.

After I send the message, I place my cell in the cupholder, then reach over and dig my wallet out of my bag on the passenger seat. With my credit card in hand, I shove my door open and place one high-heeled shoe on the ground, then the other, before hefting my butt out of the seat. Shoving my Visa into the machine a second later, I wait for it to clear. As the tank fills, I carefully watch the dollar amount since I can’t put more than fifty dollars in if I plan on eating this week.

Over the last sixty days, I’ve learned a lot about not only who I am and who I want to be but also about money and the value of a dollar. Before I moved out of the house I shared with Conner, I never thought about how much gas was or food. Or that an afternoon at the spa costs what some people—me included now—make in a month working full time. I cringe even thinking about that.
Are you ready for another BOOM?

Willow Mayson isn’t ready to just dive head first into love, or at least not with any of the men she’s dated.

Then she shares a single unexpected kiss with a complete stranger.

Clay Raven doesn’t want the strings of a woman tied to him in any way. His priorities are his family, his job, and finding the people responsible for helping to kill his sister.

One kiss shouldn’t have the ability to change that.

Even with the chemistry between them, Willow attempts to put distance between her and Clay but the guy is tenacious, until he’s not.

For a guy who’s never put much effort into any woman, Clay learns quickly that he’s going to have to fight, chase, and manipulate his way into Willow's life if he wants to be a part of it.

Then just when Willow begins to let her guard down her friend is murdered setting off a string of events that could change the course of their lives forever.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Chapter 1

Willow

SITTING ACROSS FROM Alec, I tap my fingers against my martini glass as he stares at his cell phone and types frantically. Pressing my lips together as I study him, I wonder how long it would take him to realize I was gone if I just got up and left.

My guess? Twenty minutes, if not longer.

He and I have been dating for a few weeks; he’s a nice enough guy who checks all the appropriate boxes. He hasn’t stood me up, hasn’t once looked at another woman when we’ve been out, he opens car doors and as a bonus he’s good looking. The thing is he’s as boring and as obsessed with work as every other man I’ve dated. And, I mean, I get it–work is important but so is enjoying life.

And if I’m honest I’d like a man to be a little obsessed with me–I mean, not stalkerish–but I wouldn’t mind finding a guy who puts me first, who makes it clear that he can’t get enough of me–a man who gives me his undivided attention when we are in the same space, especially when we’re out on a date at a fancy restaurant and I’ve put in the effort of actually dressing up for the occasion.

With a sigh, I look across the dimly lit restaurant and spot the sign for the restroom with an arrow pointing down the stairs. Maybe a couple of minutes away from the table will give him time to finish with what he’s doing and give me time to get out of my head.

“Hey.” I reach across the space between us and touch his hand and his head flies up. “I’m going to use the restroom before our food comes. I’ll be back.”

“Sure.” He gives me an apologetic smile. “And I’m sorry. There’s just a lot going on at work.”

“No worries.” I muster up a smile and scoot out of the booth. “I’ll be right back.”

“Sure.” He checks me out as I stand and his eyes darken, letting me know he is not completely oblivious to me.

I walk across the restaurant then navigate down the stairs in my heels. When I reach the bathroom, I go inside, and since one of the stalls is already occupied I use the other. It takes a second to get the heavy wooden door to close but once I get it locked I take care of business, then try to open the door. It doesn’t budge, so I push it harder, and it still doesn’t move.

“No way.” I shove my arm into it like I’m a linebacker causing pain to race across my shoulder to the back of my neck, then kick the door as hard as I can. Nothing. “Oh my god.” I bang the door and yell for help getting no response, then look around the entire frame of the stall finding that there is only about a ten-inch gap at the top and nothing at the bottom. Taking a breath, I try to calm down and think, I don’t have my phone so I can’t call anyone, but someone will have to come in here eventually. Right? Right. Crossing my arms over my chest I wait, then wait some more. Without a watch or clock, I don’t know how much time has gone by, but it had to have been at least fifteen minutes, if not longer.

Starting to get anxious I look at the top of the stall then at the toilet. Maybe, just maybe, if I stand on the seat I can reach the top. Carefully, in my heels that are slick on the bottom, I place one foot on the edge of the toilet, then jump up as high as I can, barely catching the frame with the tips of my fingers. Using all my strength I pull myself up then swing my leg catching the toe of my black platform sandal on the frame. Without a doubt, I look like an idiot, but when I get my leg over, I use that to pull me up, only to find myself squished between the roof and frame of the stall. Wiggling, I squeeze through the tight space, then drop my legs and then look down as I hang there.
When May Mayson signed up with a popular dating app, she never thought she would get catfished. After being stood up for a date, she finds out that the man she’d been talking to for weeks was lying about who he is.
After that horrible experience, she changes her number and deletes the app… only to have fate shove Aiden Bender right into her path.
The famous ex-soccer player whose photo was used to bait her on the dating app is the last person she expects to come face-to-face with in real life. Now, suddenly, he’s everywhere she is.
With his soccer career over after an injury, Aiden is sure his shot at happiness is lost. Then he meets May, a woman he can’t seem to get enough of. Now, all he has to do is convince her he’s not playing a game—while juggling his father’s construction company, blocking the flow of women his mother keeps sending his way, and avoiding getting run over, and shot at by whoever is out to get him.
There’s a game being played, and neither May nor Aiden understand the rules.

I SMILE WHEN my cell phone beeps, letting me know I have a message, and roll over in bed to grab it off my nightstand. Seeing it’s from Mike, saying, Good morning, beautiful, my stomach does a somersault.

A month ago, I decided I was ready to start dating, and as someone who is shy, I figured it might be easier to meet a guy online rather than out at a bar or grocery store. So I downloaded an app my best friend told me about, and that first night after setting up my profile, I got a message from Mike.

Not only is he seriously attractive, with dark, unruly hair, crystal-clear blue eyes, and a jaw that in every photo is covered with a layer of scruff, but he’s also super sweet. Since we’ve been talking, he’s messaged me each morning, then off and on throughout the day, and called when he’s had time to talk, which hasn’t been very often because he works a lot. The only downfall is he lives in Alabama, which isn’t exactly far from me, but it’s also not close, so we haven’t been able to meet in person.

But that should change this evening, since we’ve made plans to meet in Nashville for dinner—something I’m equal parts nervous and excited about. All I know is it will be good to reassure myself that he’s a real person, since as of right now he’s just a few photos and a voice over the phone.

Hearing my phone beep with another text, I come out of my thoughts and shake my head at the message from him asking me for a photo. Instead of snapping one of myself in bed, I send him one of my avatar with crazy bed hair, then set my cell phone back on the bedside table and sit up, tossing the comforter aside. The moment my feet hit the floor, I hear tiny paws on the dark wood floors that run through my entire house, and a second later, Cooper noses his way into my bedroom.

“Good morning, handsome.” I pick him up and accept good morning kisses from him while running my fingers through his short beige fur, laughing when he snorts in happiness.

When I moved into my house, my sister July, who is a veterinarian, asked me if I wouldn’t mind keeping Cooper while he recovered from surgery. He had been hit by a car and was brought into her office by the local pound, and they wanted him at 100 percent before they put him up for adoption. Of course I told her yes, but I also made it clear that it would only be temporary, because I have two cats, Blue and Bella, who do not love dogs.

Now, here we are months later, with Cooper one hundred percent healed… and all mine, which I’m sure was my sister’s plan to begin with. And even if Blue and Bella don’t exactly love him, they have accepted that he’s not going anywhere, so they tolerate his presence. After kissing the top of his head, I place him back on the ground, and head to the kitchen to start a pot of coffee.

A while ago, I decided the hustle and bustle of Nashville and its traffic wasn’t for me, so I moved in with my mom and dad and started applying for jobs at schools near where they live. Lucky for me, the librarian at a high school a couple of towns over from them was retiring, and even luckier, I found a house to purchase in a new subdivision just down the street from the school.

The only downfall was the house was only half complete so it took them some time to finish building, but it was worth the wait. Now for the last nine or so months, I’ve been settling in at my new job and in my new home which has been nice. Up until now, I’ve always lived with someone else, so I never had a chance to make a space besides my bedroom my own. But here, I’ve been able to surround myself with things I love, bright colors, all my books, art, and lots of photos.

With a stretch, I head down the hall that is covered on either side with pictures of friends and family between the doorway of my two guest rooms and one to a bathroom, then walk past the living room, which is across from the kitchen and dining area. Because I couldn’t afford a lot of upgrades for my house when I got it, I knew I would still need to do some work after I moved in. But with my dad and family working in construction, I was able to learn some stuff growing up, which means I was able to build floor-to-ceiling bookshelves in my living room around the fireplace all by myself.

“AT NUMBER ONE for the eighth week in a row is ‘If I See You Again’ by The Fallen. I think I speak for every woman in the world when I say I wish that song was about me,” the female DJ says, and I quickly turn off the radio before the song begins but still hear the lyrics whisper through my mind, having memorized them without even trying.

When I see you again, I’ll be the man you need.

When I hold you again, I promise to never let you go.

I left so much unsaid.

I should have told you what you meant to me.

Now I live each day with a hole in my heart.

If I see you again, I’ll take my shot.

If I see you again, I’ll lay all my cards on the table.

I grit my teeth as my fingers clench the steering wheel. It’s been four years since I last saw Cohen Michel, with his dark hair, crystal-blue eyes, and lean body covered with ink. Still, it feels like yesterday. I need to get over him.

I should be over him, but he won’t let me heal. His voice haunts me every time I turn on the radio, his image haunting me every time I look at the TV. I can’t even go to the grocery store anymore without coming across him. I know Cohen is not the one for me, not after watching my sisters and cousins fall in love with men who’d fight tooth and nail to be by their sides. But even knowing that doesn’t make it easier.

I pull into the driveway in front of my townhouse, shut down the engine, then groan when my cell phone rings. If I had any other job, I might ignore it, but as a realtor, every missed phone call could be thousands of dollars lost.

A few years ago, I decided I didn’t want to work for anyone anymore, and since then, I’ve been building my empire brick by brick. It hasn’t been easy as a woman in an industry where men are the ones normally calling the shots, but I’ve learned quickly to not take no for an answer and to use every asset I have.

It’s thrilling, making and closing deals, but it’s also exhausting, working seven days a week from the time I get up in the morning until I go to bed at night. Don’t get me wrong—I have no problem working my ass off, because I have big plans that are just floating at the tips of my fingers. But there are days when I just want to stay home, put on PJs, and veg in front of the TV for hours.

Picking up my phone, I frown when I see it’s my dad’s cousin, Kenton, calling. It’s not that I don’t talk to him, but I can’t recall a time that he’s ever called me.

“Hey, Uncle Kenton,” I answer as I exit my car, slamming the door with my hip while juggling my oversized leather handbag, reusable coffee mug, and cell.

“Hey, April, you doing okay?” he asks as I head up the walkway toward my front door.

“Yep, what’s up?” I ask, too hungry for all the niceties.

“I have a favor to ask.”

“Shoot.” I stop at my front door and put my key in the lock, then push inside, taking a deep breath. There really is nothing like being home, especially after a long day.

“I’m not sure you remember my friend Kai, but his daughter already lives here and is going to Vanderbilt, and his oldest son, Maxim, is looking to move to the area and open a business,” he says, and my heart does a strange little thump as a memory from when I was sixteen—sharing my first kiss with an eighteen-year-old Maxim in the middle of the dark woods when we we’re supposed to be playing flashlight tag—floats through my mind. The first and only time I ever saw him, a kiss I must have replayed over and over in my head a million times after it happened.

“I…” I clear my throat. “I kind of remember him.” I kick off my heels, then pick them up before heading up the stairs to my first floor. “What do you need from me?”

“Maxim is coming into town next weekend and needs a realtor to set up a few viewings. He’s also trying to figure out if he should buy a club or bar that is on the market or build something from the ground up.”

“I might be able to help him with that. Do you mind sending me his information so I can reach out to him directly to find out what he’s looking for exactly?”

“Yeah, I’ll text it to you when we hang up.”

“Great.” I hear him take a deep breath. “Is there anything I need to know about this guy?” I ask, because a lot of time has passed since I saw him last, years ago.
Not that it will take us very long to find people willing to cart us home with our family and friends all here. Most of them are currently out on the dance floor, letting loose to the loud music the DJ is playing. I should be out there with them, but instead, I’m sitting in a dark corner of the room drinking alone.

Okay, I’m actually hiding.

I fan my hand in front of my warm face, unsure if it’s hot in here or if the wine is making me feel overheated. I need air, water… and air. I stand, swaying slightly, and catch April looking at me. She’s currently pressed tightly to the side of a large man who seems to be enjoying her company, judging by the hand he’s had on her bottom for the last twenty minutes. I read her look, the question in her eyes asking if I’m okay, if I need her.

“She really is a good sister, even if she did claim Gareth first,” I mutter drunkenly to myself before I give her a dorky thumbs-up and point toward the exit door. She nods one time before focusing once more on the guy she’s clinging to. I set down my empty wine glass and pick up an untouched glass of water off one of the tables. I gulp it down before I move toward the bright sign in the back of the room.

When I step outside, I silently congratulate myself for making it without falling on my face in these shoes. The black, clingy dress I have on couldn’t be worn with my usual flats, so I’m wearing sandals, high ones, with pointy toes and a slim heel. They look sexy but are sucking the life out of my feet. I lift one foot from the ground to rid myself of the torture devices then giggle as I stumble sideways.

“I got you.” Strong arms wrap around me, keeping me from tumbling to the ground, and I shiver from the embrace despite the fact that I feel so overheated.

I glance up and my cheeks grow even hotter than they already are as I look into Gareth’s eyes. “Seriously? My luck sucks.”

“What?” he asks as he chuckles, the warm sound vibrating against my back and through me.

“Nothing.” I turn around to face him, taking a step back. He doesn’t let me go completely. His heavy palm is still wrapped around my hip like he doesn’t believe I’ll be able to hold myself up. “Please ignore anything I say or do from this point on.”

His gaze bores into mine before he asks, “So you want me to ignore you like you’ve been ignoring me all night?”

I have been ignoring him. After April joined us at the bar and told him that I’m always a good girl, I made my escape and have avoided him since then.

I close my eyes and what happened earlier this evening plays through my mind like a movie.

I watch the happy couple enter the ballroom, along with everyone else, and smile when my cousin lifts his new wife’s hand in the air, grinning hugely before he spins her around to face him. When he has her where he wants her, he dips her back over his arm and kisses her. Everyone applauds and laughs, including me. I’m happy for him, but happier for Hadley. Over the last few months, we’ve gotten really close, and I know from her past that she deserves her happily ever after more than most people do.

“I wonder who’s next,” my sister April says, and I look over at her, feeling myself frown.

“What?”

“I wonder who’s next. You know—the next person who’s going to fall in love. It seems to be happening at an alarming rate.” She takes a drink from her beer and glances around. “I’m saying not it. I have no desire to be shot at or kidnapped just to find love.”

“You’re so dramatic.” I shake my head at her.

“Am I?”

Okay, she’s not. There seems to be a theme when it comes to anyone with the Mayson last name falling in love. But still.

“Are you going to drink?” she asks, changing the subject and studying the glass of water in my hand.

“Probably not.” I move to one of the tables set up around the dance floor and take a seat, smiling at a few people I know who are already sitting down.

“Good, you get to be my DD for the night,” she says, sitting in the seat next to mine.

“Great,” I sigh, not really looking forward to babysitting her all night to make sure she doesn’t do anything stupid. I love my sister, but she tends to push the boundaries of stupidity.
Harmony Mayson isn’t the kind of girl to take unnecessary risk, but after meeting Harlen MacCabe, she starts to wonder if maybe she should be. The more time she spends with the wild and free biker, the more she starts to crave the freedom he gives her... And even more, she starts to crave him.

Harlen lives his life on his own terms. After losing both his parents at an early age to a robbery gone bad, he knows how precious life is, and he’s determined to get as much out of it as he can. When he runs into the beautiful Harmony and finds out she’s moving to town, he knows it’s time to take his shot. She thinks he only wants to be friends, but she couldn’t be more wrong.

What Harmony and Harlen don’t know is that their time might be cut short. Revenge is in the air, and someone won’t stop until a debt is settled.

AS I EXIT THE HOSPITAL with a smile on my face, I spot Harlen tossing his denim-covered leg over the seat of his Harley. I haven’t seen him since I took him home from my cousin June’s house a few weeks ago. He had been shot by a guy named Jordan, who was part of an MC out of Nashville. Jordan’s motorcycle club was trying to infiltrate the Broken Eagles motorcycle club and take over so they could expand their business. And by business, I mean selling women, drugs, and guns.

Lucky for Harlen, his wound was clean, through and through, so he was released from the hospital after one day. I didn’t know him before I saw him leaning against the wall at my cousin’s house, not really talking to anyone, but I did know just by looking at him that he was in pain. When I saw that, I went into nurse mode and insisted on taking care of him. I’m pretty sure he thought I was a little nuts, but somehow I still convinced him to let me take him home.

After I got him to his place and settled with some of his pain medication, I left, and I haven’t heard anything from him since. That’s not to say I haven’t thought about him more than a few times since then. He’s been like a constant itch in the back of my mind that I can’t get rid of, no matter what I do.

“Harlen!” I shout his name as I hurry in my heels across the parking lot, watching him kick up the stand on his bike and plant both his boot-covered feet on the asphalt.

His dark eyes come to me over his broad shoulder, and just like the first time our gazes locked, my lower belly pulls tight and my blood sings through my veins.

God, he’s gorgeous, just not in the traditional sense. He’s too scary looking to be handsome. He’s too big, his eyes too dark, and his jaw too hard. The thick stubble covering it makes him appear dangerous. Only, he looks like the kind of danger you want to tame so you can see it up close; like a lion or bear in the wild. You know if you ever got a chance to experience the thrill of touching an animal like that, you’d never forget it. Ever.

“Hey.” I smile once I’m close, feeling my skin warm and prickle as his eyes wander over me in a lazy way before he lifts his chin. Taking that for a familiar scary guy hello, I grin. He didn’t say much to me the last time I saw him either. Mostly, he looked at me like I was amusing.

“Were you here to see the doctor?” I ask, settling my purse higher up on my shoulder as I study him. He looks good; his color is back, and there is no sign of pain in his eyes, which is a relief.

“Not sure why else I would be at the hospital, darlin’,” he rumbles, leaning deeper into his seat and planting his long legs farther apart.

“They take semen all hours of the day,” I reply, watching his lips twitch in amusement, and that same amusement shines in his eyes.

“What did the doctor say?” I ask after a moment of enjoying his expression.

“It’s all good, wound’s healed. Stitches are out.”

“Good.” I reach out and touch his muscular, tattooed arm just under the sleeve of his black tee. His eyes drop to my hand resting on him then lift to meet mine and fill with something that makes me feel off-balance. Dropping my hand away, I take a step back. “I’m glad you’re doing okay,” I say, and he lifts his chin once more.

“What are you doing here?” he questions after an awkward pause.

I smile. “I just had an interview for an RN position.”

“Did you get the job?”

“I did.” I smile brighter. I’ve wanted to move home for a while now, but knew I couldn’t until I graduated, passed my state test, and got a job in town. I love my parents, but there is no way I would lean on them or move into their house after being free to do my own thing for so long.

“Feel like celebrating?” he asks, catching me off guard, and my stomach does a flip at the idea of celebrating in any way with him.

“Yes,” I agree without thinking about my answer, and he starts up his bike, the loud rumble making my whole body vibrate.

“Hop on.”

“Hop on?” I repeat as he hands me his helmet.

“Yeah, hop on.” He nods to the seat behind him and my eyes go there briefly.

“Maybe I shouldn’t.” I shake my head, trying to hand his helmet back to him, but he doesn’t take it. Instead, he crosses his arms over his broad chest, making his already huge arms look even more intimidating.
