Being with Tora Roberts has been nothing but a wild ride, one I never want to get off.
At twelve, I knew I loved her.
By seventeen, I’d made her life a living hell. She hated me.
She stole my heart completely at eighteen. And now at twenty-six, she still hasn’t given it back, and what’s more, I don’t want her to.
It’s about time I make her mine… Officially.
WARNING: This is a 25K word Novella written in Nate’s POV.
The Broken Hill High Series is a Young Adult / New Adult Romance filled with LOL moments, teenage angst, and of course, all the swoon worthy moments I know you’re all dying for. This series is recommended for mature readers due to cursing and sexual content. If this offends you, then steer clear of this bad boy romance! For everyone else, dive in and have fun!
My girl is doing it. The one thing she has worked her ass off for the past seven years and she’s fucking doing it.

I watch with overwhelming excitement as Tora’s name is announced and she rises from her seat. She walks down the narrow aisle, passing her peers before crossing the front of the stage and heading for the three little stairs that lead up onto it.

I can’t believe she did it. Well, actually, I can believe it. She worked her ass off for this and deserves to be here. I guess, I just can’t believe it’s actually here. Everything she’s worked for is right here being handed to her.

It’s been seven years of late night studying, cramming for exams, nervously panicking, and calling me in the middle of the night, needing me to talk her off the edge. And here she finally is, walking up the steps of the Harvard Law stage, about to receive her diploma.

She fucking did it and I’ve never been so proud.

The years since high school have been the best years of my life. Having Tora by my side as the woman I’m shamelessly in love with has been incredible. Every day with her continues to get better, yet the last three years have been some of the hardest I’ve ever endured.

I love that Tora is so driven and goal-orientated that she strived to make her dreams of attending Harvard Law become a reality, the only issue is that Harvard isn’t exactly around the corner from Broken Hill. It’s more like a six hour, boring as fuck, flight.

At first it was hard.

Not being with her every day was excruciating and not having her in my arms each night killed me. But what was worse was knowing that if something had happened to her, or if she was in any sort of danger, I couldn’t get to her. Knowing that, tore me apart and let me tell you, Tora Roberts attracts danger like a moth to flame. It took everything I had not to go over there, pack up her shit, and haul her back home, kicking and screaming. She would have killed me and I would have been fine with it because I would know that she was safe.

As time went by, it got easier to cope. Every few weeks she would fly home or I would go to her. That time we had together was as incredible as it was bittersweet. Our time was limited and knowing that we only had a handful of days together was hard.

I don’t know how we got through it, but now being at the end, I like to think that we’re stronger for it. Our relationship has suffered through the hardest trials and as usual, we always come out the other end, hands held, ready to kick ass and face down whatever comes at us next.

The only thing that has the potential to tear us apart is death, and even then, she will still be mine just as I will always be hers.

Shit. That’s fucking cheesy.

My business has soared, meaning I now have the option to be able to take a week off here and there and know that my boys in the shop will keep things going. It was helpful during those times where law school was overwhelming Tora and she needed me there. Hell, even during those times where I missed her and needed to hold her in my arms, I could call the boys, tell them I’ll be back in a week, and take off knowing that when I get back, my shop will be thriving; new projects will still be coming in and the current ones will be moving along or complete.

I have a great team working for me. I still have Ryan who’s been a godsend through all this. He’s been there since the beginning and has helped me grow my business into the success it is today. Hell, it’s so fucking successful that come another year’s time, I’ll be ready to expand. Maybe build a second shop in Haven Falls. I don’t know yet, but I’m so fucking excited. Who knows? Maybe in ten, twenty years, I’ll have taken over the country.

No matter what my goal is or how unrealistic it sounds, I know I’ll make it happen if I have Tora by my side. She has been my backbone for the past eight years. Never once has her love for me waivered, even through those difficult times in the beginning.

We’ve fought, we’ve loved, we’ve wanted to strangle each other at times, but it was all worth it. Especially now, watching her walk up those steps to the stage she’s always wanted to stand on.

Tora presses her lips together and from the way the apples of her cheeks are protruding from her face, it’s clear to me she’s doing everything in her power to control herself. She wants nothing more than to lose her shit and start dancing her way across the stage, rubbing it in the face of all her haters because she fucking did it. She wants to scream. She wants to burst into uncontrollable fits of laughter. She wants to own this moment like a motherfucking boss. But she won’t. She’ll keep her cool, accept her diploma, and say a huge thank you while remaining gracious.
College? How did you his happen?
One minute I'm starting my senior year of high school and the next, I'm in college. Let me repeat myself. How did this happen?
I can't even begin to understand the crazy amounts of drama I've suffered through over the past twelve months, but I've never been so happy to say it's over. I’m more than ready for this next step in my life.
I came out of my senior year with Nate by my side and a future to start building. To say I have it all is a disgusting understatement. My life right now is perfect. Perfect friends, perfect family, perfect boyfriend. Nothing can screw this up. Not even those little weasels, Jesse and Jackson. But… I should know better by now. Never say never, right?
You better hold on because you’re about to see a whole new type of girl you’ve never dealt with before. The claws are coming out.
WARNING: The Broken Hill High Series is a four-book New Adult Romance filled with LOL moments, teenage angst, and of course, all the swoon-worthy moments I know you’re all dying for. It’s only my second week at college and to say I dove right in is a bit of an understatement… or as Nate and Brooke would say, it’s a major understatement.

I’m taking so many classes, but how can I not? I mean, I didn’t come here to fuck around and make friends. I came because I want to be the best damn criminal lawyer this screwed up world has ever seen, and that’s not going to happen if I spend my college years screwing around.

I’m here for a purpose and I’m going to make every single second count.

Even though Nate thinks I’ve bitten off more than I can chew, I see deep within his eyes just how damn proud he is. He loves watching me work towards my future, even if that means I’ve been falling asleep on the couch with my head stuck in textbooks and having shitty, quick meals just to get me by. Though naturally, he’s had a few words to say about that too.

Brooke continues typing away on her laptop, not even bothering to turn around to see who’s just barged into her room. “What’s going on?” she murmurs into the screen.

I throw my arm over my face and close my eyes as I revel in the darkness beneath my lids. “Nothing,” I groan. “Thought I’d crash here before my next class. I don’t want to drive all the way back home just to come back again later.”

“You’re not going to the study hall or the library?” she questions, feigning interest when she’s still focusing the majority of her attention on her laptop.

“I should,” I groan, grabbing her pillow and squishing my head into it. “I was up late last night and had an early class this morning.”

“How late is late?” she asks, finally sitting back on her desk chair and swiveling it around to face me.

“Um, I don’t know,” I yawn, bouncing my shoulders in a shrug. “Maybe two or three in the morning. I was reading up on something from my Political Science class and preparing for English this morning.”

“Tora,” she scolds. “You’re going to kill yourself. You can’t keep this up. And not to mention, if you’re up late every night, you’re going to be too tired to produce good work. You need to reign it in a bit and drop a class. You can pick it up again next semester. Ease into it.”

“I’ll be fine,” I tell her, waving off her concerns for what feels like the millionth time this week. “I just have to find a better way to manage my time.” Brooke grunts with a heavy disapproval dripping from her tone. “Is that roommate of yours due back anytime soon?”

“God, I hope not,” she groans. “That girl is a serious, A-class bitch. This morning, I got out of the shower to find her going through my phone and when I questioned her she shrugged it off as though it wasn’t a disgusting invasion of my privacy and acted as though I was the crazy one. I mean, is she for real?”

“You’re kidding, right?”

“I wish I was,” she tells me. “I put in an application to get a new room. I can’t handle her anymore. The bitch stole my black heels and wore them out. They’re completely fucked now. I had to throw them out.”

“Your Jimmy Choo’s?” I gasp.

She slowly nods her head and I gasp. Brooke is big on her heels and even though something like that wouldn’t bother me quite so much, to Brooke it’s like committing the ultimate roommate crime.

“I don’t get it,” I tell her. “Why are you even doing this whole dorm room bullshit? We live twenty minutes down the road. You’d be so much happier at home and wouldn’t have to worry about locking your shit up.”

“I told you,” she groans. “I can’t handle living with my mom anymore. She’s such a controlling cow. I mean, the second the opportunity presented itself, I had no choice but to jump. And besides, you can’t tell me having a room right on campus hasn’t been beneficial. You’re here nearly every day.”

“Only because it’s convenient,” I say, grabbing the pillow from behind my head and throwing it clear across the room at her. “You’re the one who has to live here and I know you’re lying when you say how much you love it. You hate this place. It’s too cramped and you can deny it all you want but listening to your roommate having phone sex with her boyfriend is driving you insane.”

Her eyes flick away. “I love living here.”

“Liar.”

“I’m not lying,” she defends.

“Brooke,” I sigh, sitting up on her bed to give her the ‘look’. “How long have you been my best friend?”
I have never been at such a low.
School work? Stuff it.
Manners? Get screwed.
Being a decent human being? Over my dead body. And it’s all because of him.
Nate was supposed to be the reason I wake up in the morning until he took that reason away. Now, I’m left feeling like an empty shell of the girl I used to be.
He’s the love of my life. Always has been and always will be. I don’t doubt it, he’s going to come running back, and when he does, you better believe it, I’m going to make him work for it. Right down to the bone.
Thank God I have my girls and Jesse. Without them, I’d be lost.
Oh, and not to mention, I have Ashley Samuels and Phoenix Reilly keeping my mind more than busy. They better watch out because I’ve already lost the one thing that’s important to me. I’ve got nothing else to lose and revenge will be sweet.
Don’t miss this nail-biting fourth installment of The Broken Hill High Series. You won’t be sorry!
WARNING: The Broken Hill High Series is a Young Adult / New Adult Romance filled with LOL moments, teenage angst, and of course, all the swoon-worthy moments I know you’re all dying for. This series is recommended for mature readers due to cursing and sexual content. If this offends you, then steer clear of this bad boy romance! For everyone else, dive in and have fun!

Two weeks and four days.

Three weeks and one day.

Six long weeks and six fucking days.

Two damn months.

When will this end?

I miss him so damn much.

I have officially been his ex for two months. I still can’t believe it. It hurts every time I think about it; but as time goes by, I learn to manage the pain. No matter how bad it sucks.

I see him every day at school and watching him walk by, giving me one of those sexy smirks that I love so much makes me want to run to him. But knowing how deeply he loves me, combined with the fact we’re not together makes me want to throat punch him.

But I can’t run to him. Not yet at least. Well, to be honest, if I did do that, no doubt he’d catch me and hold me until the pain eases. No matter what our situation is, he’s always ready to give me exactly what I need… mostly.

I am his and he is mine. Right down to the core. I know it, he knows it, the whole damn school knows it, but until we’re able to be the best versions of ourselves, we can’t be together. When we were, we were a ticking time bomb which went off over and over again.

We were lethal together. Each other’s drug which we grew way too addicted to. I relied on it. Hell, I’m still addicted, but for us to work, we need to find a healthy middle ground.

My pity party for one is disturbed when none other than Jesse Ryder comes waltzing into my den on Sunday night. Though, the issue is that I can’t decide if it’s a good or bad thing. “What are you doing here?” I groan as he knocks my feet off the coffee table and strides past me to collapse down into the couch.

A heavy sigh passes his lips as he leans forward and props his elbows on his knees, focusing solely on the floor before him. “I’m in trouble,” he tells me.

I watch him for a moment, but the look on his face tells me this is no joke. The idiot has gone and done something bad that I’m going to have to bail him out of. “What’d you do?” I groan as my mind whirls with the endless possibilities, all of them centering around him getting in a fight with someone he can’t beat. I never thought I’d see the day.

Jesse sighs again as he fluffs a pillow, crashes down onto it, and props up his feet at the end of the couch as though he’s speaking with a therapist. I take a sip of my soda as I impatiently wait. “I’m in love.”

Soda comes spurting out my nose and mouth while I try my hardest to swallow as much as I can. “What?” I shriek as I wipe the soda off my face. “You’re lying right now. Tell me you’re lying.”

He looks at me over the armrest. “Believe me,” he sulks. “I wish I was.”

“Shit, that poor, poor girl,” I sigh. “Who is it?”

His face scrunches up as he turns to face me better. “You have to promise not to say anything.”

“Are you twelve?” I scoff. “Would you like me to make a pinky promise?”

His eyes harden as he watches me. “Fine,” he says, starting to get up. “I’ll go and find someone else to talk to about this shit.”

“No, no, no,” I rush out as the curiosity is nearly too much for me to handle. I mean, I’m trying to act cool, but inside, I’m dying. I need to know, like now. I draw a cross over my heart. “I’ll behave.”

“Good,” he says getting comfortable before holding his little finger out to me. “And for the record, I do want you to make a pinky promise.”

I can’t help but grin as I reach out my pinky and twine it around his. He shakes our hands as he narrows his eyes on me, trying to appear as serious as possible, but this is Jesse Ryder we’re talking about; he can’t pull off serious. It simply wasn’t wired into his DNA. “If you even think about breaking the sanctity of this promise…”

“I know, I know,” I roll my eyes. “You’ll tell everyone that I was crushing on Mr. Thompson when I was ten and how I was plotting to get rid of his wife so I could marry him.”

His eyes sparkle as he watches me. “You know that guy was gross, right? I’ve never seen so much hair on a man in my life.”

“Shut up,” I laugh. “I thought he looked manly.”

“More like an ape.”

I give him a stern look. “Can we stop discussing Mr. Thompson and start explaining why you think you’re in love with some girl you probably only just met?”
Nate Ryder has been the center of my world for the past few months. He’s cared for me, cherished me, and shown me a love I never even imagined could be real.
He was my rock when my father left and my voice when I didn’t have one. He was once my bully but now holds my heart in the palm of his hands, along with it, the power to destroy me.
We’ve face down every threat imaginable, and every single time, we’ve come out on top. But what happens when the threat is coming from within? What happens when our world literally goes up in flames and threatens to take my heart away?
When all the walls start closing in, he’s all I’ve got left but is what we have strong enough to survive? Or will this fairy tale come crashing down?
You know what they say; good things can’t last forever.
It’s all over the table, quickly spreading. “Fuck,” Jesse grunts as everyone scrambles for their belongings not wanting to risk them being covered in the yummy goodness.

I mean, I love that I’ve gotten Jesse addicted to Carter’s Coffee House, but sometimes his carelessness is not always welcome, especially now as the latte begins to dribble off the side of the table and hit the floor, making it splash up against my legs.

Nate grabs someone’s car keys as Brooke starts throwing napkins at the brown liquid, but her aim is shocking and they go everywhere but the spilled drink.

Damn it, why couldn’t he have spilled it when it was nearly finished? Instead, the latte was scalding hot and as full as can be.

People are rushing around and the table looks like a coffee massacre, especially when Brylee knocks over her drink in her haste to save her purse.

All of this within the space of three seconds.

I quickly realize that the four napkins Brooke is throwing down on the table aren’t going to be enough. We’re going to need some paper towel, cleaning products, and probably a mop. I step back and my legs instantly get tangled with my chair and my handbag at my feet.

I start to fumble as I lose my balance. My arms begin flailing around as my torso wobbles back and forth. Hell, I’m sure I’m even pulling one of those faces you see in slow motion videos when people are about to eat dirt.

There are too many bodies moving around and nothing to save my fall. With my chair right behind me and my body weight thrown to the side, there’s literally nothing I can do.

I’m going down. Hard.

“Fuck,” I screech as I fall. My hip catches on the edge of Nate’s chair and I feel a sharp pain ripping through me. I crash down to the ground while knocking into Nate and sending him flying forward towards the table.

Caramel latte drips off the table and lands on my face as Nate flicks himself around and gapes at me on the ground. I clench my eyes together and squirm myself away from the hot drink. Holy fuck, that hurt.

Nate is there in the blink of an eye. He hooks his hands under my arms and pulls me straight up off the ground. “Fuck, babe,” he says with wide eyes as both Jesse and Elle’s booming laughter rebound off every wall in the room. “Are you okay?”

I mentally check myself as coffee drips off me. I must have only been down for a fraction of a second, but it was enough to cause some damage. My hands hurt, my head hurts, my right knee hurts, and my hip stings like a fucking bitch.

I cringe as I try my best to tune out their laughter. Reaching down, I pull the hem of my shirt up and get a good look at my hip. “Fuck,” Nate curses as he takes in the instant bruise that has begun spreading over my hip.

Nate rubs his thumb over it and I shrink back. “Don’t,” I cry as the pain brings tears to my eyes. I try to blink them back, but they’re here for the long haul. “It hurts.” I look up at him to see him trying his hardest to hold back a grin. “It’s not funny,” I demand, yanking myself back out of his hands as the first tear falls.

“I’m sorry,” he says as his grin widens. “But, it kind of is. I mean, you went down like a sack of shit.”

“Thanks,” I grunt, pushing myself back into my chair and ignoring the spilled drinks covering the table. That’s Jesse’s fuck up so he can deal with it now. I’m done. I try to relax into my chair but the pain in my hip is just too much.

Nate’s grin disappears as he takes me in. He crouches down before me and I can’t help but pout out my bottom lip. He raises his hand and places it against my cheek. “Do you want me to get ice?” he questions as I lean into his touch.

“No,” I sigh as everyone continues fixing up the mess around us. “It’ll be fine.”

“You sure?”

“Yeah,” I say, looking up at the worry in his eyes. “Can we just get out of here?”

He cringes before looking down at his phone and checking the time. “I don’t know,” he says. “I think we should wait a little while longer.”

I let out a heavy sigh and nod my head. Nate and Jesse’s dad is officially moving out of their home today and while that’s the best news to hit the face of the earth, it’s not exactly something the boys want to be home to witness.
I never expected Nate Ryder to change my life the way he did.
Hell, I never expected to fall in love with the one guy who made my life a living hell for five years, but here I am. He’s the perfect example of something I never knew I needed.
He’s my rock. My salvation. He’s exactly what I need when my life goes up in flames. I thought the worst was over. I thought I was safe to move on from the horrors of the past few weeks, but I have never been so wrong.
If I knew my life would spiral out the way it did, I would have just stayed in bed with the covers pulled right over my head, but this time, it’s not only my life spiraling out of control. It’s theirs.
Nobody messes with my boys except for me.
This time it means war. This time I’m pulling up my big girl panties. This time they’ll learn not to mess with Tora Roberts and the Ryder brothers. This time we’re putting them down and that’s where they’re going to stay.
He scoots forward on the couch and leans onto his knees, hoping that getting closer to the TV is going to help him win

“Am not,” I argue as I continue pressing the buttons on the PlayStation controller like a boss while whooping his ass. “I can’t help it that I’m better than you.”

“Bullshit,” he demands while trying to make his assassin shoot me down. “No one is better than me.”

My ninja princess performs a beautiful fan kick that has his assassin’s gun flying right out of his hands. I laugh as she charges forward and throat punches him before swiftly kicking his ass. “That was a dick move,” Jesse grunts as he tries to recover his character.

“So was trying to shoot me,” I tell him as my phone sounds on the coffee table for the hundredth time.

“You deserved it,” he grins, chuckling to himself. “Try and get out of this one.”

His character throws a grenade my way and I laugh as my ninja princess pulls out a sword and uses it as a baseball bat to launch the grenade right back at him.

“Fuck,” he grunts as my laughter becomes too much.

My eyes pool with tears and makes the TV go all blurry. “Shit,” I laugh while trying to use the backs of my hands to wipe the tears away without losing the game. I blink my eyes over and over again, but it’s not working. All I manage to do is give Jesse an opening to decapitate me. “Not fair,” I demand. “I couldn’t see.”

“Nope,” he cackles. “It’s not my fault you cry like a girl.”

I roll my eyes and toss the controller on the couch beside me before grabbing my phone off the coffee table. I find four unread text messages. Three from my best friend Brooke, and one from my mom.

I go to read them when Jesse starts setting up for a new game. “How’d you get so good at this?” he questions. “I thought for sure it’d be an easy win. I had a plan. I was going to rub it in your face and gloat about it all night.”

I can’t help but grin as I roll my eyes. “I bought a PlayStation for dad last year, thinking it could give us something to do together, but he pushed it aside and said ‘I don’t have time for this childish nonsense’,” I tell him while mimicking my father’s voice. “So, me and mom started playing, and I swear, she’s so good at it. She must practice every day while I’m at school.”

“Shit,” he groans. “Your mom is so fucking hot. If she wasn’t my mom’s best friend, I’d be trying to hit that.”

“Ugh,” I cringe, hating that he forgets that I’m not actually one of the boys. I grab a cushion off the couch and launch it at his face. My aim is perfect and the cushion smacks him right in the middle of the face, the best part, he never saw it coming.

“What was that for?” he grunts as he rips his eyes off the screen.

“For putting the image of you trying to get with my mom in my head,” I tell him. “I’m going to have nightmares for weeks.”

He shrugs his shoulders and laughs. “Don’t worry, I’ll be dreaming about it too,” he says with a dirty wink, making my skin crawl.

“You’re so gross.”

A sparkle hits his eyes and I know that whatever he’s about to say is going to make him giggle like a little school girl. “It was worth it to know you’ll be dreaming about me while you’re sleeping in my brother’s arms.”

Just as I thought, he bursts into laughter while I do my best to hold mine in. “You’re such an idiot,” I grin as I get back to checking my messages.

Brooke – What are you doing? I’m so bored! Maxen has a family lunch and I’m stuck grocery shopping with my mom.

Brooke – OHHHHHH YEAH!!!!!! PARTY AT PHOENIX’S PLACE TONIGHT!!! You in???

Mom – Hi honey, just checking in. Haven’t heard from you today. Love you xxx.

Brooke – HELLO!!! You’re such a skank ass bitch! Stop screwing your boyfriend and talk to me!!! Are we partying with the cheerleaders or what?

I look up at Jesse. “What’s going on tonight?” I ask. “Brooke says Phoenix is having a party.”

Jesse pulls his phone out of his pocket and checks something before looking back up at me. “Looks like it,” he says as he hashes out a text on his phone. “I wouldn’t mind a bit of Phoenix tonight. She likes to get wild. She’s a screamer too.”

“That was information I didn’t need to know.”

At that, Jesse looks up again and looks around the massive den. “What happened to Nate?”
‘Go live with Nate Ryder,’ they said.
‘Everything will be fine,’ they said.
Are they nuts? Nate Ryder has been the bane of my existence for the past five years. He’s made it his personal mission to make my life a living hell and now my parents expect me to go and live with the guy for the foreseeable future.
No thanks. I’d rather gouge out my eyes with a toothpick than live with him and his little brother, Jesse. Only problem is, they have my parents wrapped around their little fingers, thinking they’re the good little boys they pretend to be.
But I know better, and so does the rest of Broken Hill High. Nate Ryder is not to be messed with. He’s a bad boy through and through. A bully. A guy who doesn’t care who he has to step on to get what he wants. He’s the devil and he knows it.
Now that devil is my roommate. I better hold on tight because this is going to be one bumpy ride. One where I can guarantee that I won’t come out the same.
Dive in to the world of Broken Hill High and meet your new favorite bad boy. This is one wild read you don’t want to miss.
I’ve been masturbating all afternoon. You should try it one of these days.

I gawk down at my phone. She couldn’t possibly mean that…. Right?

Tora – Ummmmm???? What?!

Brooke – God damn it! Stupid autocorrect. I mean menstruating!

Brooke - NO! Menstruating!

Tora – Ahhhhhh…. This doesn’t make it any less awkward!

Brooke – FML!!!! M E D I T A T I N G. I’ve been meditating!

I burst into uncontrollable fits of laughter and have to hold my stomach when it starts to hurt. Holy shit, I love my best friend. Brooke and I have been attached at the hip since we were kids and every day with her just keeps getting better. I couldn’t ask for a better best friend, especially in moments like this.

Tora – I’ve got the worst mental image right now.

Brooke – Shit. I’m never going to live this down.

Tora – Hell to the NO! What are we going tonight?

Within two seconds of me hitting send, my phone lights up with an incoming call. I look down at the caller ID and grin to myself before accepting the call. “How’s your afternoon of masturbating been?”

“It was great, thanks,” Brooke laughs. “Hit all the right spots.”

“You’re such a skank,” I tell her.

There’s rustling on the other end before she yells out. “I know, but you love it.”

“What are you doing?” I ask as my eyebrows pull together.

“Sorry,” she says a moment later. “I put you on speaker so I could enter the stupid code for your big ass gate.”

“What?” I say in excitement. “You’re here?”

“Yep,” she says, popping the ‘P’. “Now, hurry up and get your ass dressed. We’re going to a party.” With that, she hangs up the call and I throw my phone down on my bed as a massive smile comes over my face. It’s our last shot at freedom before we go back to school for our final year. We’ve finally made it to senior year and I can’t wait. It’s going to be awesome.

I pull open the doors of my walk-in closet and start rifling through the many options.

I’m still digging when the door of my room flies open and my best friend waltzes in with a massive grin. “You ready yet?” she questions as she falls into my bed and props herself up on her elbows to watch me.

“No,” I groan. “It’s not like you’ve given me a lot of time to prepare. I mean, where the hell is this party, anyway?”

“You’ll find out soon enough,” she tells me with a smirk. “Now, hurry up. I want to leave soon.”

I roll my eyes as I grab a black dress off the hanger. I strip out of my jeans and t-shirt and pull the dress over my head before grabbing the closest black heels I can find. A moment later, I stand before my full length mirror and pull my hair out of the elastic. I run my fingers through it, add a little spray, and before I know it, my chestnut hair is absolutely rocking it.

I grab my eyeliner and mascara and lean in close to my mirror to apply it before reaching for my lip gloss. Two minutes later, I’m ready to go.

“How the hell do you get ready so fast?” Brooke grunts at me. “I was standing in front of my mirror for an hour making myself look this good.”

I can’t help but laugh as I step back and take in the whole look. “I can’t believe you’ve known about this for an hour and didn’t say anything,” I grumble as I steal a look at Brooke before turning back to the mirror. “I look damn fine.”

She rolls herself off the bed and comes to stand beside me. “Then it’s a good thing it’s Josh’s party.”

“What? I didn’t know he was having a party?” I ask with wide eyes. I mean, he’s the most popular guy in school. Not to mention his dreamy looks combined with the fact that he’s the captain of the Broken Hill High football team and their quarterback makes him the guy that I’ve been crushing on for past twelve months. Though, I’m not some cheerleading bimbo who shakes her ass and waves pom poms through the air, which naturally, puts me out of the running for his attention. There are strict rules at Broken Hill High and if you’re caught straying, then you better watch out.

Though, after last week’s party when he kissed me, that thought is slowly beginning to change. Maybe I do have a shot with the quarterback, but then, the kiss wasn’t the best.

Brooke grins at me through the mirror as though she just handed me the best night of my life. “He posted it on Facebook a few hours ago. You can thank me later,” she says with a wink before grabbing my keys off my bedside table and launching them at me. “You’re driving.”
