The town of Bedlam was born of rioters, revolt, pain, and murder.
Over a hundred years later, nothing has changed.
A shadow clings to our lives. Stalking, watching, waiting, taunting, and killing. And when it struck, I wasn’t ready.
I have to play their game now. Catch them, kill them, before Ruckus Royale or they’ll claim another sacrifice.
The trouble is a new band of outlaws are in charge, and Arsenio, Cairo, Jacques, Legend, and Roan don’t take well to people ruining their fun.
On the one night a year where anything goes, mayhem will sweep through the streets and the Kings of Ruckus will rule.
I have my orders. A life to save and a life to take.
And when my punishment comes for framing the Bedlam Boys, I’ll welcome it. I’ll let them bind me, chain me, and strip me of the sweet, innocent girl I never got to be.
Under their twisted, scorching love I will atone for the crimes paid and the ones still to come.
In the end, Bedlam will be brought to its knees to bow before its first queen.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

“Wake up. Hellloooo.”

Pain lit my cheek.

“I said, get up.”

I slowly came to, descending into agony.

My head ached. Temples throbbed. Cheek stung. Wrists burned.

The final realization pushed back on the grogginess. Why did my wrists burn?

Blinking, my vision blurred on a face.

“Finally,” a voice said. “I was a minute away from starting the party without you.”

Blonde hair came into focus, and little by little, the brown eyes became clear. A round nose. Thin lips.

And a name.

“Zoey?”

My former orientation tour guide beamed. “Look at that. There is intelligent life on this planet. I was worried those knocks to the head rang your bell for the final time, you crazy bitch.”

I bristled. Why the hell was this woman talking to me like that? And where was I?

Drifting up, I peered through crisscrossing metal to the clear night sky.

We were outside and on Chaney Bridge by the looks of it.

“Hmm.”

What am I doing here? What was I doing before?

“Hmm! Hmm!”

What’s that—?

Zoey stepped out of the way, and I fell on Arsenio, Cairo, Jacques, and Legend—wrists bound and suspended from ropes tied overhead. They balanced on a ledge on the balls of their feet. Gags stretched their mouths open.

“Guys!” I raced to them and made it three steps.

My bound hands yanked me off my feet and smashed me against the rail.

Zoey laughed herself sick.

She was dressed in a bright yellow sundress with a matching bow keeping her bangs out of her face. You’d have thought she was going out to a picnic, if not for the crossbow held in her gloved hands.

I squinted. My crossbow.

“Where are you running off to? The fun just started.”

“What the fuck are you doing?!” I screamed. “Let us go.”

“Now why would I do that... Angel?”

Cold dread climbed my spine. “What did you say?”

“Need me to spell it out,” she sang. “I promised I was arranging a meeting for us and here we are. I’d have thought you’d be happy, seeing as you put so much effort into finding me.”

“You?” I scurried back as she closed the distance. “But— But how? Why?”

“How and why you already know. But you forgot.” Zoey rolled her eyes. “How convenient.”

“You’re the Letter Man,” I sliced in.

“Woman. Thank you very much.”

“But you... Blake Jensen...”

My conversation with Craig came roaring back.

“Blake. Is he in this photo? Point him out.”

“Blake’s not—”

“A guy,” I whispered. “He was going to say that Blake isn’t a guy. The face he pointed out!”

I snapped up to her. In my mind, I moved past the person I thought Craig pointed at, to the girl I dismissed outright.

Her hair was brunette. The round nose was pointed, but the resemblance couldn’t be denied.

“You’re Blake Jensen.”

“Correction: I was Blake Jensen.”

“And Dante? How did you...?” I trailed off, my mind struggling under the new information.

“Oh, I’m not Dante. But the new guy is a friend,” she said. “He kindly made a few changes to the show, and added lines to his script when I asked. I have friends, Angel. Everywhere.”

“You’re not Dante, but you are Blake.”

She gestured with my crossbow. “I changed my name to Zoey Mariner the second I hit eighteen. Ugh. You don’t know the hell I went through. My parents thought it’d be cool and revolutionary to give me a guy’s name. Instead, I was bullied relentlessly. They called me a man. Stole my tampons, saying that guys didn’t need them. It was awful.”

“Boo-hoo. I don’t give a fuck about your sob story.” I strained in my binds. “You shot Colton. You killed Bella! And the guys. Get them down from there right now.”

Zoey aimed the bow at Legend and fired.

“No!”

He jerked out of the way and the arrow sailed past, missing him so narrowly I heard his jacket tear.

“You’re not in a position to make demands, so don’t do it again. You are, however, lucky that I’m in a sharing mood. Go on,” she sang. “Ask me all about my dastardly plan. Why did you do it? How did you get away with it? I love this part.”

I spat at her feet.

She heaved a sigh. “You always were stubborn.”

“You don’t know me.”

“Au contraire. If you want to get technical, I’d say I’m the only one who knows the real you. Come on. Haven’t you put it together yet?”

“We met during that blurred-out year of my life while I was on the meds. I get it,” I mocked. “But if you think that drugged-up robot is the real me, you don’t understand how blackouts work. Anything I did”—I thought of the body at Black Widow Hill—“or didn’t do. It wasn’t a choice.”

Giving me her back, Zoey shot at the ropes keeping Arsenio out of the water below.

“Hmm!”

“Stop!”

“Here’s how this goes,” she said. “I couldn’t have you driving the Crows out of town too early, because they hadn’t accepted my price yet. You see, you’re not the only one I’ve sent letters to. But I bet you thought you were special. Aww.”

In the end, Bedlam will be brought to its knees to bow before its first queen.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

Branches snatched and tore at me, ripping red seams on my arms, cheeks, and exposed legs.

Legs? Why were my legs bare?

I jumped off a landing, splashing down in a puddle of mud that clung to cover my pale skin, and I still running, running, running.

Why were my legs bare?

Because I ran.

They came and I ran so far and fast, I had no time to put on pants. The kettle left screaming on the stove. My phone charging by my bedside. My sister soundly asleep in her bed. All left behind.

Why? Why am I running?

The thought passed and I picked up speed. Muscles burning, lungs aching, my feet dotted barely there imprints on the soft earth. I was flying. Flying away from the monsters.

Who?!

Who was chasing me? Why was I running?

I snapped my neck around, searching the endless dark for shifting shadows. Who was coming for me?

Cold bit into my skin, freezing the mud that was my only cover. No owls to chant my way. No creatures to skitter from my presence. I ran too far into the forest—farther than the animals dared to tread, and where the trees drew closer together as if to share warmth.

I had to be safe. No one would come this far. No one was chasing me.

I slowed, stumbling out into a clearing, the release from the pressing trees that open their arms to the edge of the cliff.

I stepped to the rim, peering down to the gawping abyss below.

This cliff has a name. A funny one that always made me laugh.

I laughed then. Huge, racking guffaws that stole the little air left in my aching chest.

I was fine. I was safe. Whatever was chasing me was gone now. I could go home.

I turned, and walked into their arms.

A hand clamped on my mouth, penning in the cry before it could leave my lips.

“Does the kookaburra laugh or does it scream?” Their mouth pressed to my ear, pouring their words directly into my soul. “Does the mighty kingfisher cry or does it dream? Where are you, kookaburra?”

“Please, stop,” I rasped. “I didn’t mean to. I never wanted this.”

They couldn’t hear me. Their hand swallowed my plea as the rest of them took everything else.

“Tell me, oh, tell me,” they whispered. “Why is nothing as it seems?”

Hands cradled my back and shoved. I soared over the edge. For a short, glorious moment, I was flying.

Then I fell. Fell to the bottom of the cliff with the funny name.

And I laughed.

Chapter One

“This way, everyone. Follow me.” The small, triangular flag whipped high overhead, boasting its crest for all to see. “Did you all bring your lunch?”

A few people murmured yes.

“Perfect.” Zoey’s cheery voice gathered us around her like bees to the queen. “This is Homer Green, as we call it. At any time you’ll find students hanging out, studying, or running around here.”

I scanned the sprawling campus, taking in the rising spires, stone facades, sprawling waves of green, and countless coeds walking among them. Bedlam University looked impressive in the brochures, the glances out the window as I drove past, and the single time I gathered a trace of courage and came here for a frat party. None of that compared to seeing this campus up close and personal under the beaming sun.

“Sit down and let’s get to know each other.”

I slid my backpack off my shoulder and tugged out the blanket. The orientation packet said to bring it and I was nothing if not a sucker for lists and instructions. I was among the few.

Most of my group pulled faces sitting on the dew-covered grass. I dropped on my blanket and pulled out my lunch.

“How smart were you bringing a blanket.”

A shadow fell over me. I glanced up into shining green eyes and a wide smile.

“Mind if I sit with you?”

“Course not. Go for it.”

She plopped next to me, wiggling her shoulder against mine like we shared a cool secret. Up close, she was even more beautiful.

A light dusting of freckles covered her round nose, and soft blonde strands flowed past her shoulders and mine. She was so close they were blowing in my face.

“How old are you?” she whispered, and then it made sense why she was sitting so close. People saved the intrusive questions for under their breath. “You don’t look like a freshman.”

“I’m a junior, technically. I did two years getting my associate’s and then transferred to Bedlam.”

She gasped. “Really? Me too. I—”

“Excuse me, ladies.” Zoey pinned on us. “If I could have your attention, we’re going to play an introduction game to get to know each other.”

“Sure thing, Zoey,” said my new nameless friend. “Sorry about that.”

“All right, this is an easy one. We’ll go around and either replace or add our name into the title of our favorite movie or show,” Zoey explained. “For example, I’m Zoey and my favorite show is Doctor Who. So I’d say I’m Zoey Who. You guys have three guesses to name my show from Zoey Who. Got it?”
A secret lies at the heart of this town. At the heart of my tragedies.
And I won’t stop until I find the truth.

Unfortunately, I can’t count all the obstacles in my way.

The battle between the Crows and Bedlam Boys is heating up.

No one is safe. No one is innocent.

Every move to protect the people I love brings them closer to danger, and I never thought that list would include the Bedlam Boys.

They’re falling for me.

Bringing me deeper into their world where I’ve never felt so safe and protected.

All I want is to beat back the shadows creeping into our lives.

But the more I discover, the more I begin to wonder if the person I can’t trust is myself.
Riot Kings is a dark contemporary reverse harem romance. This is the second book in The Bedlam Boys series.

*************FULL BOOK START HERE*************

Prologue

The clock ticked down to nine. Ten. Eleven.

Dusting off my hands, I checked outside one last time. No one had arrived or approached the house. Once you got to the trees, you had cover. Otherwise, it was clear sight lines on the twelve acres of farm.

I’ll go inside and stand with my back facing the fireplace. I’ll have them if they come through the front door or from the back. If they attack me, I defend myself.

A simple plan without holes—except when I considered the possibility all they wanted to do was talk.

The question invaded my mind on the walk across the green.

If the death of Axel Verlice changed things and now they were willing to tell me the truth, how would the night end? Do I hope to get him to the police station with a bow and arrow at his back? Do I entertain the thought of killing him and ending his threat to my life once and for all?

I climbed the porch steps. If I find out his name and who he is, I’ll let him go. The police can mull over the dilemma of killing him in a shoot-out instead of—

Pausing, I lit on a small, black envelope lying where the welcome mat used to be. When did he leave this? He couldn’t have come while I was in the barn, so it must’ve been sometime before then and after Jeremy and I drove away from the farm.

I picked it off the porch.

Did you really think you could fool me, bitch?

I’ll give it to you, you had me going for a second. That just makes the betrayal worse.

You’re not who I thought you were.

You’re a fake. A mistake. A waste.

Damaged garbage left in the discard bin, and you’re too stupid to know it.

I bet you still don’t know who’s on the other side of this door.

I read the note once, twice, five times, palms slickening with each one.

Did I think I could fool him? What did that mean? Did he know about Verlice?

How?

Doesn’t matter. I dropped the note, leveling my bow. I didn’t know who was on the other side of this door, but I was going to find out.

“This ends tonight.”

Grabbing the knob, I let the door swing open. It parted a crack and stopped.

“Hmm.”

Planting my feet on the wood, I kicked it in, running inside.

“Hmmm!”

Bella screamed at me—eyes bulging and wetness soaking her gag. She thrashed in the chair she was tied to, banging the legs on the rotted living room floor.

“Hmm!”

Snap.

A tiny missile streaked across my vision. The arrow sunk in Bella’s chest, and it wasn’t mine.

“Bella!” I ran to her, dropping my bow and arrow at her feet. “Oh, Bella, no. No, I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.”

Her head dropped to her chest, the light fading from her eyes.

“No!” I screamed. My lungs ripped with sobs.

It was a trap. A trap that I sprung.

The Letter Man found out I didn’t kill Axel, and my friend paid the price as promised.

“No, p-please. Bella, no. It’s my fault. This is all my fault.”

I scrabbled at her zip ties. She couldn’t be dead. I’d get her to the hospital. I’d call—

Eeeee.

A door creaking open pierced my mania. The Letter Man was here. He came to watch the final moments with Jennifer, and now my destruction.

A polished black shoe stepped over the threshold.

Snatching up my bow, I whipped around, a keening wail breaking the silence, and released my arrow.

It stuck in the wood—centimeters from his face.

“Ouch.” He stepped out of the shadows, and every beautiful inch of Cairo Sharpe was revealed. “Not the welcome I was hoping for.”

Chapter One

Cairo stepped inside. “What the fuck was that—” His expression changed, eyes falling on Bella. “Holy shit, Rain, what did you do?”

“Me?!” My heart rended in two—both pieces screaming agony as they died. I asked it not be Cairo. Let the Letter Man be anyone else but Cairo, Roan, Arsenio, Jacques, or Legend.

I scrambled for another bow, aiming for a dead-on strike.

“You did this! You— You—” Understanding dawned. “You knew I didn’t kill Axel Verlice. Of course you fucking knew. So, you killed Bella.”

That gorgeous, perfect face remained fixed in confusion. “What the hell are you talking about? Once again there’s a body and you’re standing there holding a bow. I figured the first time you had no choice, but this...” He shook his head at my dying friend. “You really do have a taste for killing.”

Fury eroded my veins, spilling hot blood that rushed to my head and cheeks. “That’s not going to work. You don’t get to blame me for this— Don’t move!” I drew back, narrowing on his heart.

He halted, though no trace of fear shone in his eyes.

“Why did you do this?” Brushing against Bella’s shoulder, tears dripped down my chin. “You didn’t have to do this to her. Bella was good. Kind. How could you?”
