When I found her, everything changed. I started to feel things I didn’t want to feel. I started to want things I had no business wanting.
But there was something about Everleigh...
To make her mine, I would have to save her. To save her, I would have to cross lines I never thought I would cross. For her, I would cross them without question.

I’m the man who washes away the sins of the most notorious gangs and MCs in the state.

You don’t just choose this line of work.

It chooses you.

It chose me shortly after my wife died. She had a mishap with her medication—a mishap that her doctor should’ve prevented. He was a neurologist. He knew the medication he prescribed her could be life-threatening, but he was too busy, too money hungry to care that he was putting her in danger. If he had cared, she wouldn’t have died that fateful afternoon.

Knowing her death could’ve been prevented nearly destroyed me.

I became lost and hungry for revenge. I wanted to make her negligent doctor pay for his mishandling of her care, and with the help of Viper—the Ruthless Sinner’s president, I did just that.

Viper made sure the dear doctor paid for his crimes, and I used my background in forensics to make sure no one connected the MC to his death. The notorious president was impressed with my work and offered me an opportunity I couldn’t refuse.

Since that day, I’ve used my expertise to not only remove incriminating evidence from a crime scene but make it disappear. I’ve even been known to manipulate that very evidence to mislead authorities or adversaries, shifting suspicion away from my associates.

I’m not innocent in this game of cat and mouse, but let me be clear.

I’m not like the men I work with. I’m not a cold-blooded killer. I’m nothing of the sort.

I’m simply the cleaner.

Or at least that’s all I was...

When I found her and discovered what they’d done, everything changed.

Rolls shifted, and I crossed lines I never thought I would cross.

It was time to live up to the name I’d been given.

BILLY

“Dad, you gotta start getting out of the house more.” Kiersten, my one and only daughter, dropped the bags of groceries down on the kitchen counter as she fussed, “It’s not healthy to be cooped up here all the time.”

“I get out.” I’d grown accustomed to Kiersten’s surprise visits. Since her place wasn’t all that far from mine, she’d stop by during her lunch break or on her way back from her college campus—which was something I enjoyed a great deal. I walked into the kitchen and started helping her unbag the groceries I didn’t need. “I just spent the entire day outside working in the garden.”

“That doesn’t count.” She perched her hand on her hip—just like her mother used to do, and scolded, “You need to be around people and have real conversations.”

“I have conversations with you.”

“Dad.”

“What?”

While I appreciated her concern, I had absolutely no desire to be around people, much less carry on conversations with them. As far as I was concerned, that time in my life had come and gone. I’d given that all up when Kiersten’s mother died. Losing her nearly broke me. It had been almost ten years, and I still hadn’t recovered. Fighting through so many emotions—shock, anger, and grief, I finally withdrew from the rest of the world and put all my focus into my work.

I knew Kiersten wouldn’t understand how difficult it was for me, so I simply nodded and said, “Okay. Okay, I’ll try to do better.”

“You know, with all the vegetables you’ve been growing out there in that garden, you could set up a booth at the farmer’s market.” She opened the pantry and started carefully placing the cans on the shelf with the labels facing front—just the way I liked them. “I bet you could meet all kinds of people there.”

“I don’t think so.”

“Why not? It could...”

Before she could finish her thought, my work burner started to ring.

Kiersten’s back stiffened as she watched me pull my phone from my pocket. She knew there was only one reason why I’d be getting a call—work. And since she also knew exactly what that work entailed, I didn’t feel the need to leave the room as I brought the phone to my ear and said, “You’ve got Billy.”

“Are you ready to play?”

“Depends. Where’s the game?”

The exchange was always the same. Short and simple. It was the best way to keep my clients and me safe. Grinder, the president of the Forgotten Renegades MC, sounded positively livid as he snarled, “6 Dellway Drive... You know, out at Talbot’s Corner.”

I knew the place well. The crime rate there was off the charts, which meant there was a good chance that the police would be in close vicinity—which led me to ask, “How many will be playing?”

“Four, maybe five, but you know if we are, um, playing together, we can make the game go a little faster.”

“Yeah, I think we can handle that. Give me five, and me and the boys will be on our way.”

I hung up the phone, then immediately turned my attention to Kiersten. Before I could say a word, she held up her hand and said, “You got a job?”
Viper

PROLOGUE

There are moments in our lives that we hold closer than others.

They become part of our very existence.

For me, it was the memories of my father and the racetrack that stuck with me the most. There was nothing in the world like it.

Win, lose, or draw, he raced the track every weekend, and I was right there cheering him on. And I wasn’t alone. The stands were always packed with fans, and we were all there for the same reasons:

The loud rumbling of engines.

The scent of burning tires against the asphalt.

The deafening roar of the crowd as they watched the two cars barrel down the track and cross that finish line.

I loved every minute of it.

I can still remember how my heart would pound whenever my dad would pull up to the starting line in his 1968 Camaro. He’d hammer down on the accelerator and rev the engine for the crowd—and me. I’d immediately stand up and lean in for a better look.

My entire body would tense the second that light changed, and it would remain that way until Dad took off. Even though there was no way he could hear me, I’d cheer him on until he finally crossed that line.

I celebrated my father’s wins and mourned his losses like they were my own, and through each of those races, he’d taught me something about being a man.

There were times when he would be nervous, even a little scared about the fact that he was going up against a faster car or a better driver. He might not have felt like the wheels of luck were turning in his favor, but he never let his fears get the best of him

He never backed down.

He gathered every ounce of grit and determination he could muster, and he got behind the wheel. He pressed his foot against that accelerator, and it wasn’t long before the thrill of the speed overcame the fear.

For him, it wasn’t just about winning.

It was about giving it your all.

My ol’ man taught me that your reputation meant something. It’s the one thing money couldn’t buy. It was something that had to be earned. When my father was out there on that track, there were no tricks.

No stunts.

No sleight of hand.

No cheating of any kind.

My father won or lost the race at his own hand, earning the respect of all those around him. Everyone knew Dad was a man who could be trusted, and that reputation carried him a long way.

I’d taken the things I learned from my father’s racing days and carried them with me when I became a member of the Ruthless Sinners MC. They’d helped me through some tough spots, but there was no lesson that could get me through what I was about to face.

Nothing could.

LYNCH

It happened in an instant.

One minute I was sitting at the bar with Country and Widow, and the next, there was a loud blast and I felt an intense heat against my skin. Before I had a chance to react, my two-hundred-and-forty-pound ass was being hurled across the room like I was a fucking toothpick.

I landed on the floor with a hard thud, the impact nearly knocking me out cold. I wanted to get right back up and shake off this shit, but I struggled to overcome the thick haze that had fallen over me.

I could only lay there with my face against the cold concrete floor, my head pounding and every muscle in my body aching. Both ears were ringing, smoke filled my nose, and my lungs burned with every breath.

I knew something was very wrong and could feel the urgency growing inside, but I didn’t have it in me to move.

It felt like I’d fallen into a pit of fucking black tar, and I couldn’t break free no matter how hard I tried. Even after hearing movement next to me, I couldn’t budge and started to wonder if I was alive or dead.

Then someone’s hands nudged my back as they called out in the distance, “Hey, Lynch! You okay, brother? Lynch?”

My head was throbbing to the point where I thought my skull would explode, so a groan was all I could muster. I felt myself being shaken as someone called out again, “Lynch! Come on, man. Wake the fuck up!”

There was something about the panicked tone of my brother’s voice that pulled me to my senses. I finally managed to force my eyes open, but everything was contorted and blurred. My head was throbbing as I looked around and tried to make sense of what was going on.

Widow continued to yell and tug at my arm until I finally grumbled, “Gonna need you to stop that shit.”

“It’s about fucking time.” My ears were still ringing, but I heard him ask, “You alright?”

“No... No, I’m not.” I continued to squint, trying to see through the thick cloud of dust and smoke. “Gonna need a minute.”
From the day I became the President of the Ruthless Sinners, I’d been known as one of the fiercest, most relentless MC presidents in the south.
I lead my men with honor and pride.

I never once wavered from what I believed was right for the club and for the brotherhood.

And even when it wasn’t easy—even when it meant putting their needs above my own—I’d always done everything in my power to keep the brothers and their families safe.

These were the demands of an MC president. I was good with that. I had dedicated my life to the club and the club alone.

It was the only way I could face losing the only woman I’d ever loved.

But as fate would have it, I’d been given a second chance with her.
There was only one problem.
Another woman had caught me under her spell.

Two incredible women.
One impossible choice.
I was all muscle and brawn with a fiery temper, while he was intelligent and athletic and had an irresistible charm that made him the legendary “boy next door.”

I was into the thrill of Talladega Speedway.

Camden was all about college football.

I loved motorcycles.

He was into the classics, especially our dad’s old Mustang. However, we had one thing in common—one thing that prevented us from fighting at every turn—our best friend and neighbor, Mia Richardson.

We were ten when Mia moved in next door, and from the second we laid eyes on her, we were both hooked. She was tall and slender with long, straight, jet-black hair and the bluest eyes either of us had ever seen, but it was her smile that knocked us both right on our asses.

I don’t know how it happened, but the three of us clicked in a way that didn’t make sense to anyone—not even us. I couldn’t explain it—at least not where anyone would really understand. Our lives were like an ultimate cheesy chick flick where the guy and girl were best friends and spent every waking moment together. There was lots of laughing and sappy, sentimental moments and senseless teenage fighting, lighthearted makeups, and everything in between.

That was us—except it wasn’t just one guy and one girl.

It was the three of us.

Mia, Camden, and me.

We were a disaster waiting to happen, but none of us seemed to notice or care.

Mia and I shared a few intimate moments—a drunken kiss or two, an admittance of feelings while under the influence; I was always hopeful that there’d be more between us but never pushed. I figured the same thing had happened between her and Camden.

I’d seen the way she looked at him and the way he looked at her. But we never talked about it. None of us did. One would’ve thought our mutual affection for the same woman could’ve driven a wedge between two brothers, but for some strange reason, it didn’t. It was as if she was the glue that held us together—until one decision destroyed everything we had.

Things started to change when we graduated high school.

Unlike Camden and Mia, I hadn’t enrolled in college or had a career mapped out for myself. In fact, I had no plan at all. On the other hand, my brother knew exactly what he wanted to do from start to finish, and I envied him for that.

I took some time to consider my options, and after a lengthy discussion with my father, he suggested that I join the military. At first, I thought he was crazy, but then I thought about Mia.

The way she looked at Camden was filled with intrigue and pride whenever he talked about becoming a lawyer. I wanted her to look at me like that. Not him.

The following day I took the ASVAB and the physical exam. When I met with the career counselor, I learned that I had scored high enough to enlist in not only the Army but every branch of the military and had various choices in careers—something I hadn’t expected after my experience in high school.

I waited until the last minute to tell Mia about my decision to join the Army, not because I was afraid she’d change my mind; I didn’t want her to worry about me during her last few days of summer break. I was helping her put her beach bag in the back of Camden’s car when I finally said, “I got somethin’ to tell ya.”

“Okay?” She turned to face me. “What is it?”

“I’ve decided to enlist.”

“What?”

“I’m joining the Army.”

“The Army? Where is this coming from?”

“You and Camden both have your college thing. Figure it’s time for me to have something of my own.”

“You’ve never even mentioned joining the military before.”

“Doesn’t mean I haven’t been thinking about it.”

Mia studied me for a moment like she was searching for the right words but couldn’t find them. I had no idea what was going through that pretty little head of hers, but I knew it wasn’t good. She was freaking out, and I had no idea what to say to set her mind at ease. After several minutes, she finally muttered, “I want you to do what makes you happy, but I don’t like the idea of you going off to the military.”

“What do you expect me to do, Mia? Work at the hardware store for the rest of my life?”

“I don’t see why not. You like working there.”

I shook my head. “Yeah, but it doesn’t pay shit. I’ll never be able to afford—”

I was about to say something I feared I’d regret, so I quickly clamped my mouth shut and stared down at the laces on my boots. Mia stepped closer, and the tone in her voice gutted me as she whispered, “What will I do without you around? You’re the only one who keeps me sane.”
I hadn’t been a member of the Ruthless Sinners long, but it already felt like I’d known them all for a lifetime. They were my family. They had my back, and I had theirs, but there was more to it than that. When we were together, we could sit back and cut loose—just like we were tonight.

Widow and I had just ordered another round of shots when I heard Country say, “This girl was smoking hot with five-gallon titties. You should’ve seen her. I mean, smoking hot, but as soon as things started to heat up, she went all cold on me ... Ice cold.”

“Sounds like she came to her fucking senses,” Rafe teased.

“Nah, she’s a smart girl. She knew she’d found the golden ticket with me. She just didn’t wanna come off too easy... She wanted me to think she was a good girl who didn’t give it up on the first date. That’s when I gave her a little push and told her, ‘Baby, just remember, Jesus loves you and all that, but Satan does that thing with his tongue. Let’s do a little sinning, and we’ll pray for forgiveness tomorrow.’”

Clearly amused with himself, Country started chuckling, but his smile quickly faded when Menace added, “And that, brother, is why you don’t have yourself a woman.”

“Ah, nah, brother. I’m single ’cause I wanna be.”

“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” Menace snickered, then turned his attention to me. “Surprised to see you here tonight. Figured you’d be off somewhere with Sadie.”

“I needed a break.”

“Oh? Trouble in paradise or is she just busy tonight?”

I knew he was fucking with me, so I shook my head and grumbled, “Can’t a man go out and have a few beers with his brothers without everyone giving him a hard time?”

“Oh yeah. Definitely trouble in paradise.” Menace motioned his hand over to our bartender, Lisa. “He’s gonna need another round. Maybe two.”

Lisa grabbed the bottle of tequila and a couple of shot glasses, then placed them down on the bar. “Here you go, boys. Let me know if you need anything else.”

When she turned and walked away, Menace grabbed the tequila and started pouring us both a shot. “Here ya go, brother. Now, you can drown your sorrows.”

“Got no need to drown my fucking sorrows, asshole. Nothing’s wrong.”

“Whatever you say, boss.” He patted me on the shoulder. “Give her some of the good stuff when you get home, and it’ll be all right.”

“Are you gonna keep this up all night?”

“Yeah, probably so.”

“Figured as much.”

I tossed back the shot and was about to do another when my burner started ringing. I grabbed it out of my pocket and groaned when I saw it was my sister. She only reached out to me when she needed something. I had no doubt tonight wouldn’t be any different. I was tempted to blow her off and spend the rest of my night hanging peacefully with my brothers, but I answered her call.

That choice would haunt me for years to come.

ONE

JAGGER

THREE YEARS LATER

“Good morning, Mr. Hughes. My name is Claire Cunningham. Along with the rest of the Parole Commission, I have brought you in today to discuss the possibility of your parole. It is our job to determine whether or not you should be released from prison to parole supervision for the remainder of your sentence.”

I didn’t see any point in giving a response. I could tell by the way my so-called “board of my peers” were looking at me that they’d already cast down their judgments. The second they eyed my long hair, the ink marking my skin, and that fucking orange jumpsuit, they saw nothing but a criminal. All I could do was sit there and try my best not to crawl out of my own fucking skin as they asked their tedious questions. Ms. Cunningham studied me for a moment, then asked, “Why don’t you tell us all why you have been incarcerated?”

“I’m sure you all are fully aware of why I’ve been locked up.”

“Yes, we have your records, but we would like to hear it from you, Mr. Hughes.”

“I killed a man,” I answered bluntly.

“Can you be a little more specific?” Cunningham pushed. “It’s important for us to know all the details concerning what transpired between you and Mr. Ortega.”

“He was my sister’s boyfriend. Apparently, he had a thing for knocking chicks around ’cause he did a real number on my sister.”

I thought back to that night, the way she looked when she opened the door—all broken and battered, and it brought bile to the back of my throat.

My sister had made her fair share of mistakes, but she didn’t deserve that shit.

No woman did.

I swallowed hard, pushing back those feelings of rage, and said, “She called me to come to her place. Told me that she and Ortega had gotten into it. When I got there and he discovered she’d called me, he started laying into her again. That’s when I intervened. We fought, and Ortega ended up falling backward. His head hit the corner of the coffee table, and that was it. He cracked his skull or something. Can’t say for sure. Just know he died soon after.”
You don’t know until you know…
We didn't exchange names or numbers. There was no reason to. It was just a simple hook up--until it wasn't.
I had no idea the beautiful girl I'd met in the bar was Kiersten—Billy the Butcher's daughter. And that wasn’t her only secret… far from it.
I had to give it to her. The chick wasn’t only a looker, she was smart—really fucking smart. She had to be to pull one over on the Sinners.
In the end, she left us with two choices: kill her or go into business with her. Thankfully, the club decided on the latter.
I’d gotten my second chance, and I was damn well going to take it. There was just one problem...
Her perfect little world was about to erupt into chaos--putting all our lives in danger.
Wilder

Prologue

Growing up, I was a bit of a chubster and not one of those cute, rosy-cheeked kids with a little extra meat on their bones. I was fat—at least in the eyes of all my friends at school, and we all knew how it went for the fat kid. They tended to be the butt of all the jokes, and some were brutal like “Hey, fatty-fatty, two by four. Can’t fit through the kitchen door,” or “You’re so fat, you need a map to find your dick.” One of my all-time favorites was “You’re so fat I bet your nose doesn’t even run.”

The teasing and taunting were tough at times, and I couldn’t deny that it got to me. As much as I tried not to let it, those words cut deep. I had a short fuse, and there were some days when I struggled to keep my rage under control. Those were the times when I’d go down to the basement and wail on my ol’ man’s punching bag. The older I’d gotten, the more time I’d spend down there. When my dad figured out what I was doing, he came downstairs and asked me, “You wanna tell me what’s going on with you?”

“I’m just having a bad day, Dad.”

“Any particular reason why?”

“I’m done with all the bullshit.”

“What bullshit?”

“You know.” I slammed my chubby fist into the punching bag. “I’m sick of everyone running their mouth about me.”

“I see.” He gave me one of his looks. “You can’t let them get to you, Son.”

“That’s easy for you say. You aren’t a fatass like me.”

“But I was. I’ve been where you are, and I remember how tough it can be.”

Looking at him now, it was hard to believe my father was ever overweight. Hell, I bet there wasn’t an ounce of fat on the man, but I could tell by the sound of his voice he was being completely honest with me. Feeling completely defeated, I told him, “I’m just so tired of it. Why can’t I just be like everyone else?”

“You are, Son. You’re just carrying a little extra weight.” He reached over and gave my shoulder a fatherly pat. “You’ll grow out of it. As soon as your growth spurt comes along, you’ll slim down and—”

“I’ve been waiting on this stupid ‘growth spurt’ forever.”

“It’ll come.” I wanted to believe him, but at that moment, I felt like the whole world thought I was a fucking loser. I just needed a break—a moment to collect myself and forget all the crap people said about me, so I was relieved when my father said, “You know, everyone needs a day—a day to wallow and feel sorry for themselves, but only a day. After that, you gotta stand up and face the music.”

I didn’t respond. I just stood there and listened to my father. “The way I see it, you got two choices: you can continue to be the target of all the jokes, or you can be the one who cracks them first. In other words, you gotta beat everyone to the punch.”

“I don’t know.”

“When I was your age, I went for the latter, and I got pretty damn good at it. I have no doubt you will, too.”

“I’ll try.”

“That’s all I’m asking.”

After thinking about everything my father said, I decided to do like he’d done and be the first one to crack the jokes. It wasn’t always easy. There were times when I wasn’t sure I could do it, but in time, I got pretty good at poking fun at myself. Whenever someone would give me a disgusted look, I’d give them a wink and pat my belly. “It takes a body like this to contain me and all my fucking personality.”

If I was at a party and trying to play it cool with the ladies, I’d say something like, “Yeah, I know I’m fuckin’ sexy. Why don’t you come over here and get you some?”

I poked fun at everything and anything, and little by little, the disapproving looks started to fade. The kids at school began to back off with the fat jokes. As time went on, I began to grow taller and taller, and like my father had assured me I would, I started to slim down.

After spending a summer working out at my grandparents’ farm baling hay and cleaning out stalls, I developed a few muscles to boot. In a few months, I went from the round, dumpy kid to a tall, lean, fighting machine. My transformation didn’t go unnoticed. It seemed everyone had something to say about it, but I never let it get to my head.

I might’ve lost the weight, but I was still me.

I still had my sense of humor.

I still had my short fuse, too.

Just like the blood running through my veins, they were a part of me.
I was just a kid messing around with shit that I had no business messing around with. I never really had to work at it; the whole thing simply came naturally to me. I could sit down at that computer and do just about anything, but for the most part, my endeavors were harmless. It was just some basic stuff really: a few upgrades to my computer system, changes to grades and absences at school, and the occasional peek into other people’s personal accounts. For years, my shenanigans had gone unnoticed by the outside world, but that all changed when I found myself backed into a corner with no way out—and all because of some chick.

I was at a party with a group of kids who were up to no good, and I was right there in the thick of it. The house was filled with loud music, a couple of kegs and liquor galore. There were hot chicks all over the place, and that suited me just fine. I was nineteen with only one thing on my mind—getting laid. I had my eyes set on Katie the second she walked through the door. I knew her from high school, but we’d never really talked. She was younger, and we ran in different circles, but that wasn’t going to stop me from making a play for her, not when she looked like my next wet dream. Katie was wearing a short baby-blue summer dress that barely covered her large, voluptuous breasts and didn’t seem to give a fuck. She was sporting that fucking thing like it was made for her, and when she looked over at me with those smoking-hot green eyes, I knew I had to have her.

I played it cool, hanging back and drinking my beer as I watched and listened to Katie carry on with her little crew of friends. I was waiting for my in—that perfect opportunity to start up a conversation with her—and finally got it the second I heard her mention a speeding ticket she’d gotten earlier in the week. There was no missing the worry in her voice as she told her friend, Candace, “Mom is gonna freak! She’s always complaining about how high my car insurance is, and now, it’s gonna be even higher.”

“It won’t be as bad as you think,” Candace said while offering her another drink. “Don’t worry about that right now. We’re here to have a good time.”

“How can I not worry? She’s gonna take my car away and probably ground me until the end of time.”

“Your mom is a hardass, I’ll give you that, but there’s nothing you can do about it right now.” Candace took a big gulp from her red plastic cup and glanced around the room. “Besides, there are some really hot guys here who’ll be glad to help you forget all about that stupid ticket.”

“But—”

“Come on, Katie. Give it a rest! I’ve been listening to you gripe about this damn ticket for days. I don’t want to hear it anymore.” She took another hefty drink, then announced, “I’m here to party, and that’s what I plan to do. You can either join me or just sit here and pout.”

I saw my opening, so I took it. Before Katie had a chance to respond to her irritated friend, I eased over to them and announced, “You know, I could help you out with that ticket of yours.”

“What?” Katie asked, sounding intrigued. “How?”

“I can make the entire thing disappear.”

“Seriously?”

“Absolutely.” I motioned my head towards the house. “Why don’t you come back to the bedroom, and I’ll show you.”

“You don’t really expect me to fall for that, do you?”

“Not trying to get in your pants, Katie,” I lied. “Landon’s computer is in his bedroom. I’ll need it to take care of the ticket.”

Landon was one of our mutual friends, and the host of our little gathering. I could tell I was getting through to her when she smiled and muttered, “Oh.”

“Why don’t you refill that drink of yours and come watch the magic?”

“Okay.” She nodded her pretty little head, then stepped over to the keg and started filling her cup. Once she’d topped it off, she smiled and said, “All set.”

“Great.”

I led her through the crowd and down the hall to Landon’s bedroom. He and I had been friends for years. Landon used the same damn password for everything, so I knew I wouldn’t have any problem getting into his laptop. We stepped into his room, and I closed the door then made my way over to his desk. With Katie hovering behind me, I turned on his laptop and entered the password. Just as I’d hoped, it worked, and I was minutes away from impressing my latest conquest. I hadn’t been at it long when Katie placed her hand on my shoulder and asked, “Do you really think you can make my ticket disappear?”
My past had broken me. I never allowed anyone get too close.
With a population of about three thousand, there wasn’t much to the place. There was no mall, no bowling alleys, not even a Sonic. But we had the Little General with the best fried chicken in the state and Mario’s, a small Italian joint that made my mouth water every time I drove by. Our town might’ve been small, but every Fourth of July, it seemed to be the biggest place on earth. All our family and friends would meet up at my Uncle Jamie’s for the barbeque of all barbeques with enough food and drinks for an army. The kids would run wild while the parents sat around the grill and threw back a few beers. The Fourth had always been my favorite holiday. I could pretend I was just like every other kid, that I didn’t live in a secret world of hell, but that all changed the summer of ’93.

My mother had one of her migraines, or at least, that’s what she told everyone when she decided to skip the day’s festivities. She wasn’t one for big crowds, so none of us were surprised that she wanted to stay home. Dad was eager to get over to Uncle Jamie’s, so he didn’t complain. Instead, he just ordered my younger brother Madden and I to get in the truck, and we headed over to join the others. As soon as we arrived, we went to join our neighborhood friends and cousins. We rode our bikes down to Manis pond, fished and caught crawdaddies, then came back to the house and cooled off under the sprinkler. As soon as we got dried off, we grabbed a handful of bottle rockets and were shooting at the black birds when my Uncle Jamie peeked his head over the fence and shouted, “Hey, you crazy hood-rats! It’s time to get down to the park!”

“Yes!” we all cheered.

The firework show at Critchfield Park was always a big deal for the folks in Monterey. Everyone in town would gather around with their lawn chairs and coolers, and for a brief moment, all our worries were forgotten. We could all just sit back, shoot the shit, and enjoy the show. Eager to get there and find a good spot, all the kids rushed over and started helping to gather our things. That’s when everything went south.

I was busy helping my best friend Marcus load some folding chairs into the back of his dad’s truck when my father called out to me, “Hey Ro’, where’d ya put my keys?”

“Don’t know.” I shrugged. “I haven’t seen them.”

“What are you talking about? You had them in your hand an hour ago!”

At six-three and three hundred and twenty pounds, my father wasn’t a small man. He towered over me along with most of the people in my family. That was enough to make him intimidating, but it was his ferocious temper that made him scary as hell. The man was a legend in our town, known for whooping half the football team when he was in high school. Those rumors continued when he started getting into brawls down at the local bar. I didn’t have to listen to the rumors to know about his short fuse and the havoc he could bring when he lost control. I lived with him. I knew exactly how terrifying he could be. His cold, black eyes narrowed as I answered, “Yeah, but I gave them back to you.”

He didn’t like my answer. In fact, it was enough to cause his back to stiffen and his chest heave with fury. “If you gave them back to me, I wouldn’t be standing here asking you where the fuck they were!”

“You were sitting with Uncle Jamie when I handed them to you.”

“That’s fucking bullshit, and you know it.” My heart started to pound, and my palms were all sweaty. “You been running around doing God knows what. There’s no telling where my fucking keys ended up!”

My shoulders drew up as I muttered, “You sure they aren’t in your pocket?”

“No! They aren’t in my goddamn pocket ‘cause I gave them to you! You think I’m stupid or something?” He threw his hands up in frustration. His face was growing redder by the minute, and that vein in his neck was now pulsing. I knew what that meant. He was spiraling into a fit of rage, and there was nothing I could do to stop it. “And now you’ve gone and lost them! Stupid, worthless motherfucker!”

By now, everyone at the cookout was staring at us, but no one said a word. They all just stood there, watching silently as I muttered, “I promise I didn’t lose them, Dad. I gave them back to you. I swear it.”
It’s just the way it was in the MC. Club business was club business. Period.
Marlowe Davenport, the club’s new bartender, had secrets of her own.
The girl was beautiful with captivating, blue eyes that could hypnotize any man.
She’d come to Nashville to escape her past, and I was determined to claim her future.
Unfortunately, the timing couldn’t have been worse.
A war was on the horizon, and as the dark clouds drew closer, I would discover Marlowe had a part to play in it—a part she didn’t even know she had. Everything she cared about was on the line—including me. That’s the thing about secrets. I was in the doorway of my garage, helping my ol’ man patch a flat tire on my Kawasaki Vulcan. It was my first motorcycle, and while it was no Harley, I was proud to call it mine. Hell, I’d just about worn the damn wheels off it, which was why my father was outside giving me a hand.

He was busy griping about missing the big game when I heard the faint hum of motorcycles coming our way. Like a moth drawn to a flame, I stepped out of the garage and down the driveway in hopes of getting a better look. The low rumble quickly morphed into a thunderous roar as the bikes continued in my direction. I was beside myself. Every fiber of my being was vibrating with anticipation; in my gut, I knew something big was about to happen. I just had no idea what it was—only that my life was about to take on a new direction.

I ventured a little further down the driveway, and that’s when I finally saw them. There were at least twenty bikers, each wearing black leather jackets with Ruthless Sinners embroidered on the back. They rode side by side as they barreled down the road, power and confidence radiating off of them like nothing I’d ever seen. I wasn’t some sheltered kid who’d never seen bikers before, but I’d never seen so many so close. As I stood there in my driveway, I could actually feel the vibration of their engines rattling through my chest and was completely enthralled by the moment. I couldn’t move. I could only stand there with my eyes wide and my mouth gaping open. And then it happened. One of the bikers looked in my direction and gave me a quick nod, and when several others followed suit, my day was made. I was just a dumb kid who didn’t know much of anything, but one thing I was certain of: I wanted to be a Ruthless Sinner.

Over the next few years, I graduated high school and even took a couple of classes at a local community college, but I never forgot about that moment in my driveway. In fact, I thought about it all the time. I was beginning to worry my idea of joining the Ruthless Sinners was just some pipe dream until the day I’d bombed yet another calculus test.

I was in dire need of a drink, so I stopped off at Crockett’s, one of my usual hangouts, to grab a beer. Gladys, the bartender, was about eighty years old and southern as the day was long. She was never one to card, so I had no worries as I went up to the counter and sat down. Gladys hobbled over to me with a crooked-toothed smile and asked, “What’ll it be, son?”

“Just a Bud Light for now.”

“You got it.” She shuffled over to the cooler and grabbed a cold bottle, then brought it over to me. “There you go, Hun.”

“Thanks, Gladys.”

I opened the bottle and was just about to take a drink when I heard the front door open behind me. Seconds later, a man asked, “Did you card him?”

“Don’t start with me, boy.”

“Answer the question, Gran.”

“No,” she said with a huff, “but he’s in here all the time.”

“Don’t mean a damn thing.” The guy came up to the counter, and my chest tightened when I saw he was wearing a Ruthless Sinners’ cut. “They’re gonna shut you down over shit like this.”

“Well then, I guess they’ll just have to shut me down,” Gladys picked up a rag and started wiping down the counter as she grumbled, “’cause ain’t nobody gonna tell me who I can and can’t sell to.”

“It’s the damn law, Gran.”

“Like you’re one to be talking about the damn law.’”

“You’re the most stubborn grandmother on the fucking planet, you know that?”

"Maybe, but I’m no more stubborn than you.”

“How am I being stubborn? I’m just trying to look out for you.” Ignoring her response, the guy glanced over at me and shook his head with a sigh. He didn’t seem to be much older than me, maybe a year or two at best, so I was surprised when he asked, “What are you ... seventeen? Eighteen?”

“Actually, I’m twenty.”

“No shit? Damn. You look younger.”

I shrugged. “Just have one of those faces, I guess.”

“Just so you know”—Gladys leaned over the counter—“he’s a college student. Taking him some classes down there at Nashville State.”

“Hmm.” The guy’s eyes narrowed as he asked, “That right?”

“Yeah.” I didn’t want him thinking I was some stuck-up college prick, so I quickly continued, “But I don’t know how much longer I’m gonna stick with it.”

“Why’s that?”

I wanted to tell him I’d always wanted to be a Sinner. Hell, it was sitting right there on the tip of my tongue, but I couldn’t make myself say the fucking words. “Just don’t think it’s for me.”
It can hurt like hell to let go, but sometimes holding on hurts even more.
Shotgun
Over the years, I’d taken some pretty hard hits. Hell, some were hard enough to break a man, and they had damn near broken me. My past haunted me, consuming me with rage, guilt, and regret.
As the Ruthless Sinners’ enforcer, I held those dark feelings close, used them to keep my brothers and the club out of harm’s way. It wasn’t easy, especially when there was always someone itching to take us down. The same held true on the night that the mysterious Remington Taylor was left for dead at our door step.
One look at her had me questioning everything. She was in a league of her own, beautiful and smart, and had a strength like no one I’d ever known. This woman was going to ruin me—make me feel things I’d buried a long time ago. I could see it in her eyes, feel it in her touch, but I still let her draw me in.
For the first time in my life, the pain of holding on was greater than the fear of letting go.
Holding On is book two in the Ruthless Sinners series. This is Shotgun’s story, and while it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. This addition to the Ruthless Sinner’s MC will have you rooting for forgiveness, mended hearts, and second chances.

“No, there ain’t no fucking problem.”

“I wasn’t asking you.”

I’d been sitting at the bar having a drink with Rafe when a beautiful brunette caught my eye. She was standing next to the front door with a wide-eyed expression, making it pretty clear that she’d never been in a strip club before. Even in the dark, I could see that she was hot, smokin’ hot, but she looked completely out of place dressed in a trendy long sweater and jeans with knee-high boots. She hadn’t been standing there long when some asshole came up to her and started trying to make a play. I’d seen her shake her head, telling the guy no at least a dozen times, but he just kept at it. Concerned that he might do something stupid, I walked over and tried to intervene. Looking down at the petite brunette, I asked her, “Everything all right over here?”

“Yeah, I’m okay,” she replied, while toying nervously with the odd-shaped silver pendant on her necklace. “I was...um...I was just trying to tell this gentleman here that I’m not staying long, so I don’t need a drink...but he keeps insisting.”

“Understood.” I looked back over to the dickhead who wasn’t taking no for an answer and said, “Time for you to move on.”

“This is some bullshit, man.”

“Move, or I’ll move you myself.”

“Fuck this,” the guy grumbled as he turned to leave. “I don’t need this shit.”

Once he was gone, I looked over to her. She continued to rub the pad of her thumb against the back of the silver pendant. “You okay?”

“I am now.” A soft smile crossed her angelic face. “Thanks to you.”

“You here alone?”

“No.” She released the pendant, letting it drop to the delicate line of her cleavage, then motioned her hand to the crowd behind us. “I’m here with my friend, Madeline. She’s looking for her boyfriend ... or soon to be ex-boyfriend.”

“He in that much trouble for being here?”

“Oh, it’s not just this,” she scoffed. “The cards have been stacking up against him for a while now, so I’m hoping she’ll give him the boot.”

“And you came along to watch the show?”

“Well, yeah.” She tucked a strand of her hair behind her ear. “I couldn’t let Madeline come here alone.”

“I see.” I glanced over my shoulder at Diamond as she danced on the stage. “So, what do you think of the place?”

Unable to help myself, I let my eyes skirt over her soft curves, and damn, she was fucking sexy. It was easy to see why the asshole didn’t want to take no for an answer. Hell, I was struggling myself, loving nothing more than to take her home and fuck the life out of her, but that wasn’t going to happen. This girl was the real deal, all class, the kind a man committed his life to and did everything in his power to make happy. As tempting as she might’ve been, I didn’t fuck with women like her. She gave me a light shrug and answered, “It’s great ... if you’re into this sort of thing.”

“And I take it you’re not into this sort of thing?”

“Umm ... not exactly. I’m more of a glass-of-wine-and-a-movie kind of girl.”

“I see.”

“Don’t get me wrong.” Her eyebrow inched higher, and she snickered. “There’s definitely something intriguing about all this.”

Her mannerisms were subtle, almost undefinable, but there was no doubt that she was flirting with me. I could see it in her eyes, in the way she moved, and the slight tremble of her voice, leaving me wondering why a chick like her would be into a man like me. I gave her a slight smile and replied, “That there is.”

I could’ve stood there and talked to her all fucking night, but unfortunately, fate had other plans. She was just about to say something when I heard Rafe call out to me. “Yo, Shotgun!”

“Yeah?”

I turned to see what he wanted and found him pulling a customer towards the back door. I could hear the anger in Rafe’s voice as he shouted, “I need a fucking hand!”

“On my way!” I looked back over to the brunette. “I gotta get going. You and your friend try to stay out of trouble.”

Her dark eyes locked on mine, sending the blood rushing to my cock. “I’ll do my best to keep her in line.”

Fuck. It was a damn good thing that Rafe needed me; otherwise, I might’ve ended up doing something I’d regret. I gave her a nod, then turned and started through the crowd. As soon as I exited the back door, Rafe had some thug pinned against the outside wall. He took a moment to clue me in on what had gone down, then stepped out of the way so I could take over. The guy tried to bolt, but I quickly grabbed him by the throat and slammed him back against the wall. His beady eyes narrowed as he spat, “You don’t know who you’re fucking with, man.”
Trust. Loyalty. Family.
These are the ties that bind. As a Ruthless Sinner, I live by those words—all the brothers do. We’re family, our bonds stronger than blood, and as their sergeant at arms, my loyalty has never wavered—until the night they brought her to the clubhouse.
The red-headed beauty didn’t belong there. It was her brother who’d betrayed us, but there she was, atoning for his sins.
I didn’t want to hurt her.
I wanted to protect her, claim her as my own, but as secrets started to unfold, I was left with an impossible choice. The ties that bind often come at a price—some more costly than others.
This is Hawk’s story, book one of L Wilder’s new Ruthless Sinners crossover series. Ties That Bind is a standalone MC romance with a group of bikers who will take you on a hell of a ride. They’re foul-mouthed, possessive alphas who will stop at nothing to protect their women. No cheating and a HEA.
Sure, I appreciated the company of a beautiful woman from time to time, but I never led any of them on. I didn’t make empty promises or insinuations that I was looking for anything more than a good, hard fuck. Never had to. I’d always made sure the women I hooked up with knew exactly what they were getting into—a night of the best sex they’d ever had—followed by my immediate exit.

Just to be clear, I wasn’t some lost soul who was searching for the love I never got as a kid. Nothing happened to me in my past that fucked me up and I wasn’t able to shake it. I wasn’t seeking some kind of validation or affection to heal my wounded heart. I was simply a man who didn’t want any complications. I didn’t have time for it and most likely never would.

Don’t get me wrong. There were times when I found myself wondering if I was missing out on something—like the night my brothers and I had gone to Memphis to party with the brothers of Satan’s Fury. While I was there, I’d met a woman who made me question my wicked ways. She was beautiful, but it was her spirit and strength that got to me the most. For the first time in my life, I’d actually considered a life full of complications, but then I discovered she belonged to someone else. Normally, that wouldn’t have been enough to stop me from trying to make a play for her, but she was tied to Clay, my president’s nephew, which made her completely off-limits. I’ll admit, after meeting Landry Dawson, I started to wonder if I’d ever find a woman to claim as my own.

Hawk

Loyalty. Faith. Family. Those are the ties that bind. I'd never realized just how important those ties were until I joined the Ruthless Sinners MC. With them, I’d found a family who’d stand by my side when things went south, as I would them. No matter the circumstance, our loyalty to one another never wavered. We were family—our ties stronger than blood—and I’d never been prouder than the day my brothers voted me in as their sergeant-at-arms. I’d always done my best to fulfill my duties, even when it wasn’t easy—just like tonight.

The brothers had gathered at Stilettos, the club’s main front business, to check out the new strippers our manager had just hired. The guys were eager to see the fresh meat before we opened for the night. They looked like kids on Christmas morning when the music started playing and Candy stepped up on the stage. The hot blonde was all smiles as she made her way over to the pole, and of course, all the guys started hooting and hollering the second she slipped off her halter top. I, on the other hand, just wasn’t into it. Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t that I didn’t find Candy attractive, I did. Hell, when it came to chicks, it didn’t matter if they were tall, short, thick, or thin, I could find something appealing about all of them.

But tonight, I had more important things on my mind than getting laid. I was pissed that I hadn’t heard back from Danny—the club’s supplier. He and I needed to have words, and he knew it.

I reached into my back pocket for my phone and was about to dial his number when I heard Axel ask, “Something up?”

“Just waiting to hear back from Danny.”

No one would ever guess that Axel had a good ten to fifteen years on me. The guy was built like an ox and could take any asshole who was stupid enough to go up against him—which was one of the many reasons he was the club’s VP. Axel was aware of the issue with Danny, so I wasn’t surprised when he asked, “You think we should have Shotgun pay him a visit?”

“Definitely.” While Stilettos brought in a good bit of cash for the club, it was nothing compared to the money the girls brought in when they sold coke to our customers. The club had been using Danny for years. We’d done our homework, knew he was supplying for several others in the area, and they’d been pleased with not only his reliability but his product. Everyone knew he wasn’t the main supplier, that he was getting the take from a distributor in Texas, but he’d always been dependable when it came to keeping up with our supply and demand. But recently, it seemed we were having to deal with one fuck-up after the next. It started with a couple of late deliveries, which quickly progressed into him missing one altogether. That in itself should’ve been enough for us to walk away, but we were in a bind for time and bought one last shipment from him—one big fucking shipment that cost over two hundred grand to get our hands on.
